Guys, you have to realize that Thomas is getting older. Of course he isn't going to have the same exact energy as he did when he was younger. People change. And, this is an entirely new band, of course they're not going to replicate TFOT. Just be thankful he didn't quit music entirely.
@pressle I quite like this. Nice and proggy. The fall of troy was what it was. And the best of their work will always be great. Just appreciate the music that IS awesome. Your MP3 player has a repeat button right?
Listening to this song high is about as magical as... having both sets of genitalia, having sex with someone else that had both, and you both came from both sex organs simultaneously and continuously. oh... and you're unicorns.
@Djtalley101 Yes, the same singer and guitarist, and the rest of the band, or atleast some of the memberswere also in Thomas's OLD band, before TFOT. They were called The Thirty Years War.
this is sick but it just aint the same stoked for thomas but what about sledghammer mastodon amanaplan excreations actone johnny truant holytape its just not the same
they're so dope live. they played this song last and it really blew me away. I actually met Thomas in front of the Baltimore show and talked to him for a few minutes. the guy's got no record label support or any of that jam right now so buy this album if you love his music.
@1white999 DUDE ur so right.... people wanna bail on how Thomas is actually GROWING as a musician, just cuz they dont like how his new songs aren't EXACTLY like doppleganger and he's switchin it up..... I personally thought the Unlikely Event was amazing (like their old albums) but a new sound that still had similar roots and people didnt give it a chance....and now their broken up :((
ITUE was good, not as much as the others but i enjoyed it. maybe all the haters will give it another chance in the future and find to like it just like JLV. if not oh well your loss
Lol. In the Unlikely Event was funny, because half the songs were good and the other half were almost just like filler lyrics. I mean, the song "People and Their Lives" was awful. "Dead, and gone You could have stopped You could have stopped me if you tried But it's real now That you don't have me inside Cause inside you're blind Confused and undefined" Compare that to Manipulator, and they've retrogressed. This is much better material.
this song is bomb, In The Unlikely Event Sucked. No vision, no emotion, hence breakup. This should go for about 3-4 years, then TFOT reunion with a killer album. count my words, as if they were numbers. counts my words, as if they were emotions.
You can't compare this to Fall of Troy. I was a huge fan and I can say this band is freaking awesome. So what if it's not as fast or technical as tfot, it still is technical an displays Thomas' skill as a growing musician. We all miss tfot but Thomas is growing for the better as a musician and he has my support.
@TheIdentityKrisis if you've seen tfot you know everything is fast. i saw just like vinyl in mill creek on new years and they were awesome. the presence is still there with just as much if not more enrgy than tfot. nd personally i think the technicality has been bumped a notch there is a lot of harmonizing between the 2 guitars on some challenging riffs. but i agree, you have to support a great musician
Stop bringing up fall of Troy he changed the group cuz fuck heads like u keep tryn to say they weren't as good as they used to be new band new music fall of Troy is no more Just like vynle is the shit!!!!!
heres a suggestion.. if you don't like them, don't listen to them. don't just sit here and talk about how amazing The Fall of Troy is/was. we all know they were awesome. Just Like Vinyl is not The Fall of Troy, and they won't be The Fall of Troy no matter how much you bitch about it.
I tried to be as accurate as I can with the lyrics:
Darling, I'm deftly afraid you've been wrong, cause you wont break out.If I been shutting out or shutting you down, yet you stay involved.Darling,I'm deftly afraid you've been wrong.Cause you wont break out.Yet you stay involved, and you say and you say to me;its so easy it so easy to not believe in me.Darling I fear that you let our souls stray. If I can say more than just one thing please stop telling me telling me lies
Thomas Erak did his time for making crazy intricate guitar riffs with exploding chord progressions in the Fall Of Troy, Let him do his thing in Just Like Vinyl and appreciate the overall sound.
@1noObster45 No, this shit is an insult to his musical intelligence. Every album Thomas Erak ever made with the fall of troy was ridiculously amazing, this is the first album I could shit on. So much talent gone to waste....
@reallybigd It isnt talent gone to waste, its HIS music, he should be able to do as he pleases, he doesnt play his music to impress or appeal to YOU, he does it because he is a musician. I like the fall off troy more than this, 30 years war even more, and tribune even more so than this but that doesnt mean I cant appreciate him taking a different route. be more open minded, being narrow minded is the road to ruin bro.
@1noObster45 I like the 30 years war, tribune not so much. Thomas defined new age kick ass rock and roll/metal/experimental. All those aspects are gone from this new music. The magical riffing vanished and the melodies are above average. Jay Beeman is a fucking joke compared to Andrew Foresman and Thomas has become some what of an old man with his tastes for aggressive music unapparent. Every good project ends at some point (chappele's show), and good thing TFOT did before making a shit cd
@reallybigd In my eyes you can't compare guitarist if they play different types of music. I just watched a live performance of just like vinyl and they destroyed the venue, overall thomas erak was really enjoying himself. If you just listen to these songs a couple of times you'll catch on and enjoy them, if not then at least be happy for thomas erak. Hating on his new music makes you a shitty fan, or not a fan at all. if you're grateful for what he's brought to the table then don't judge.
@1noObster45 I'm sure they play an amazing show, Thomas is GODLY live, I'm just really let down by the simplicity and lack of a aggressiveness when compared to his previous project, which I fell in love with dearly. I take back my last statement of I could shit on this band, but how could you really enjoy this after Phantom on the Horizon. I wanted him to continue in that style of simply the most epic music ever created. It just seems like he really eased down on the technical riffs and synth
This is where we have to come together as true fans and tell all the fucking haters to spread their hate elsewhere before they kill JLV like TFOT. Erak pours his heart and soul into everything and i won't let it go down again. APPRECIATE what we have here.
Like how people are now 'loving' Thomas erak's progression. When 'in the unlikely event' came out you werent so keen on his 'progression' then. Just find that funny.
@idontcare009 Fall of troy has always been known for progression and their unique sounds, no album goes without some sort of change, as soon as anything Thomas Erak touches come on you can tell its his genius, Fall of Troys sound never disappointed from first ep to last studio album
@1white999 That's because In The Unlikely Event sucked. It's also because this is a different band and didn't have any previous roots. Unlike TFOT who were, prior to ITUE, very sporadic and insane. This is far better than ITUE and is also a new band that didn't have any previous material to compare.
@theanimal6592 In the Unlikely Event was far from a bad release, in fact quite the opposite. I'd view this album as one of TFOT's more matured compositions. The three produced an evolved, explosive sporadic style structure that tamed the ears of many fans, including my own pair. To say that album sucked compared to any other Erak production is completely ludicrous and a theoretical statement.
This new 4 piece project is comprised of 3 new musicians, each adding a new style to Erak's music path
@thecolorlev The thing is though, ITUE did suck compared to any of Erak's prior ventures and even compared to JLV's first record. It was overproduced and largely overdone in almost every way, shape, and form. Any good stretch of music on the album was often overshadowed by forced vocals or cheesy solos. It would have been a good record for your average run of the mill rock band, but after writing albums like S/T-Manipulator it simply wasn't up to snuff.
@theanimal6592 I agree with everything you have said completely, it just irritates me how easily people can turn on a musician for producing music which wasn't what they expected, I for one have always supported Erak no matter what he produces, since the very begining.
@theanimal6592 Well that's like, your opinion man. I thought ITUE was one of TFOT's best albums. Then again, I love every single thing Erak's ever put out. There is not a single song that I dislike. I don't see how it was "overproduced" or "overdone". It was just different than anything prior.
@theanimal6592 yeah i see what you're saying, but in the unlikely events wasn't as moving as doppelganger, manipulator, or ghostship demos (which i like better than Phantom on the Horizon). But I love "Battleship Graveyard". That has to be one of his best songs. But honestly I only like 3 songs from that album, as of the other albums which i love every song. But the fact of the matter is, perceptions aren't wrong or right, they're perceptions. This is just how I perceived his music.
@theanimal6592 Ive learned in all my years as an engineer, musician, and audiophile when someone says soehing was over produced they nomally dont know too much about music and are simply following the rest of the lemmings. It was a phenominal album and had some amazing ideas and similarities to all their albums. And in terms of quality it has no more than Phantom on the Horizon. JLV is way closer to the ITUL than the first album anyway.
Just throwing in my two cent. Both are great bands.
@domonichimself It was over produced. Anyone can come on here and say that their an audio engineer and even if you are, it doesn't mean anything. Nothing in your comment refuted what I said about the production. Also, no shit JLV sounds more like ITUE than anything else, but there's one major difference: It's a completely different band. What made ITUE so horrendous was the fact that it was released by a band who was on a completely different level beforehand. GTFO with your engineering bullshit
@1white999 I totally understand what you mean man. I also see where theanimal is coming from... something about ITUE seemed too.. overdone. You're right though. and I am loving this progression! haha
@MisterGamer43 I don't see why people care so much. I love every album with or without screaming. There truly isn't a song Thomas has made that I've not liked.
@XIchigohimuraX Especially ironic because, well... Straight Jacket Keelhauled is probably the most scream-driven, hardcore-esque song by The Fall of Troy, pretty much period. And yeah, I agree, I love all of the music I've heard too.
@MisterGamer43 LOL. Have you never heard Tom Waits, We Better Learn How To Hotwire A Uterus, Ex-Creations, What Sound Does A Mastodon Make, Ghostship I, Ghostship IV, or Ghostship V?
@MisterGamer43 And if you were to boil down Straight Jacket, there wouldn't be any hardcore to call it hardcore. That is, if you want to be technical about it. Converge is straight hardcore. Straight Jacket sounds nothing like Converge.
@theanimal6592 Straight Jacket also sounds nothing like No Roses No Sky, from a technical standpoint. Does that make it any less Hardcore than Ex-creations or Tom Waits? No.
@MisterGamer43 You said it was their most scream-driven, hardcore-ESQUE song dude. Straight Jacket is not more scream driven or more hardcore-esque than any of the songs I mentioned. Take Thomas' dick out of your mouth, you might be able to hear better without you gagging on his cock all the time.
@theanimal6592 Nothing by The Fall of Troy sounds more like hardcore than any other the Fall of Troy song. They're not a Hardcore band. Pretend they are all you want, but they're a post-hardcore prog band. And don't try insulting people based on your own insecurities, some people aren't easily insulted morons.
@MisterGamer43 "Nothing by The Fall of Troy sounds more like hardcore than any other the Fall of Troy song" coming from the kid who posted "Straight Jacket Keelhauled is probably the most scream-driven, hardcore-esque song by The Fall of Troy" and started this argument. fucking lol
@theanimal6592 What, don't you have something better to do than pretend you're right? The Fall of Troy have never sounded like Straight Hardcore, and that's a GOOD thing; Most of straight hardcore is almost as much trash as Beiber anyway.
@MisterGamer43 You're just not even making sense. You're the one who started this argument by claiming one of their songs sounded like hardcore and now you're saying hardcore is trash.
@1white999 he was trying to progress while still tied to FoT's name. we wanted more FoT. Now that he's dropped that constraint, we can move forward with him.
@1white999 yea but the fall of troy is a different band! if a band you liked completely changed the sound you would be a annoyed, but he's in a completely different so our expectations are different!
The guitar work on this CD is AWESOME! Its not all the crazy fast awesomeness that is The Fall of Troy, but its so good!! They're gettin to be more groovy and stylish I think. I'm a true TFOT fan and I think the way that Thomas is progressing is kickass!
@vic1tory i hear what your saying.. the first time i heard the fall of troy, gates in my brain opened to new horizons.. it is true that there will never be a band like them.. but you cant let it take away from this.. Just like Vinyl is pumpin out fire
@shinigamiSASUKE19 You fail, this cd is fucking shit. Insult to the world and a waste of thomas's skill. Jay beaman, are you fucking serious??? School yard heroes has some good songs, but WTF THOMAS ERAK?!??!?!?! WTF?!?!?!?!? You ditched mathcore/experimental everything and Andrew Foresman for this garage band BULLSHIT?

nubbinnoob 10 months ago
@XIchigohimuraX Especially ironic because, well... Straight Jacket Keelhauled is probably the most scream-driven, hardcore-esque song by The Fall of Troy, pretty much period. And yeah, I agree, I love all of the music I've heard too.
MisterGamer43 10 months ago
@MisterGamer43 LOL. Have you never heard Tom Waits, We Better Learn How To Hotwire A Uterus, Ex-Creations, What Sound Does A Mastodon Make, Ghostship I, Ghostship IV, or Ghostship V?
theanimal6592 10 months ago
@theanimal6592 If you were to boil most of those songs down, there'd be too much mathmetal left over to call them more hardcore than Straight Jacket.
MisterGamer43 10 months ago
@MisterGamer43 And if you were to boil down Straight Jacket, there wouldn't be any hardcore to call it hardcore. That is, if you want to be technical about it. Converge is straight hardcore. Straight Jacket sounds nothing like Converge.
theanimal6592 10 months ago
@theanimal6592 Straight Jacket also sounds nothing like No Roses No Sky, from a technical standpoint. Does that make it any less Hardcore than Ex-creations or Tom Waits? No.
MisterGamer43 9 months ago
@MisterGamer43 You said it was their most scream-driven, hardcore-ESQUE song dude. Straight Jacket is not more scream driven or more hardcore-esque than any of the songs I mentioned. Take Thomas' dick out of your mouth, you might be able to hear better without you gagging on his cock all the time.
theanimal6592 9 months ago
@theanimal6592 Nothing by The Fall of Troy sounds more like hardcore than any other the Fall of Troy song. They're not a Hardcore band. Pretend they are all you want, but they're a post-hardcore prog band. And don't try insulting people based on your own insecurities, some people aren't easily insulted morons.
MisterGamer43 9 months ago
@MisterGamer43 "Nothing by The Fall of Troy sounds more like hardcore than any other the Fall of Troy song" coming from the kid who posted "Straight Jacket Keelhauled is probably the most scream-driven, hardcore-esque song by The Fall of Troy" and started this argument. fucking lol
theanimal6592 9 months ago
@theanimal6592 What, don't you have something better to do than pretend you're right? The Fall of Troy have never sounded like Straight Hardcore, and that's a GOOD thing; Most of straight hardcore is almost as much trash as Beiber anyway.
MisterGamer43 9 months ago
@MisterGamer43 You're just not even making sense. You're the one who started this argument by claiming one of their songs sounded like hardcore and now you're saying hardcore is trash.

@1white999 he was trying to progress while still tied to FoT's name. we wanted more FoT. Now that he's dropped that constraint, we can move forward with him.
nubbinnoob 10 months ago
@1white999 yea but the fall of troy is a different band! if a band you liked completely changed the sound you would be a annoyed, but he's in a completely different so our expectations are different!

This seems similar to his first band Tribune. I really like the direction he's taking (still hoping for a remake of Ever True So True).

The guitar work on this CD is AWESOME! Its not all the crazy fast awesomeness that is The Fall of Troy, but its so good!! They're gettin to be more groovy and stylish I think. I'm a true TFOT fan and I think the way that Thomas is progressing is kickass!
