  • My daughter, Brooke, is 13 years old. She is extremely athletic, outgoing, a straight A student, a member of National Junior Honor Society, and was diagnosed two days ago with type 1 diabetes. Is there anything you would say to her or any tips you or Anna would give her?

  • @trqueripel I would love to email you. I have lots of great info. for you and your daughter. Please send me an address where I can contact you if you'd like.

  • i do craeb counting to

  • I have family members with t1 diabetes (in fact, all of my siblings except me). I had problems with gluten, but the A1 beta casein (found in dairy foods) seems to be a common trigger for type 1 diabetes. A2 milk is sold at the grocery stores here in Australia now, and I've been sticking with A2 milk and am off soy. Have you tried a product blogged on glutenfreesoyfree(dot)wordpress(dot)com/2011/09/13/possible-solution-gluten-intolerance/ for her T1 DM? celiac and t1 are related so may help

  • I could not even imagine having this horrible disease when I was a kid. I was diagnosed with type 1 at the age of 43 last April and boy has it been a rocky road full of pot holes and huge obstacles to overcome.

One day you can have very dangerously high highs and the next dangerously low lows and that's with eating the same things and same amount of exercise.

I pray everyday that my kids never get this horrible disease and also pray for a cure.

  • Fab video. Anna what a brave cool girl. And Mum great guidence and good pointers with the whole video, it tells us what we need to know and why. I am just starting to use a pump and this has been gold info Thanks

  • @tonyrees68 Good luck with your pump. I'm sure you'll find a new freedom from needles. God bless!

  • @tonyrees68 So glad that it helped you. I hope the pump has given you some freedom back.

  • You're a real trooper.

I'm type 2 and get sugar levels in range with diet., mostly.

I use cinnamon to bring levels down when I eat more carbs than I should. .

Ever consider a low card diet?

  • @GenMata I've heard that about cinnamon. A low carb diet is good, however, unlike Type 2, it won't change the fact that Anna requires insulin. We will never be able to "undo" Type 1 diabetes. Thanks for the info. I appreciate it!!

  • @christimclean1313 I understand but my point is that she eats things that runs her glucose way up. I just thought that was harmful to allow the glucose to go so high. Low carbs would keep it from getting up so high..

Cinnamon pills would also help keep the glucose down too.

    Have a bless day

  • @GenMata You're right on. Anna definitely enjoys all those high carb foods, like most 12 year olds. :)

  • Very well done. I was diagnosed in 1976 at the age of 14. I have great empathy for you and your family. You are doing awesome.

  • @Diabeticyogi Thank you. I can't even imagine how hard it was when you were first diagnosed. Technology and research has come so far since 1976. Hope you are well.

  • Thank you for the video. My 11 year old son was just diagnosed on Tuesday (12/6/11).

  • @sassypwns I encourage you to check out the local JDRF chapter in your area if you haven't already. They are so passionate about finding a cure for Type 1 and are an amazing support.

  • @kipperbuck that's so nice of you to say!! Thanks! I use a mini-med by Medtronic. I haven't had any problems with it and the meter that I use sends the B.S. numbers right to my pump, so I don't have to enter them. Good luck. You will LOVE having a pump!

  • im 14 and had it sice i was 10 i got it a week after my birth day and spent thanks giving in the hospital

  • what a sweetheart.....your an inspiration Anna...thank you for the video... <3

  • @369thegoose1 Thank you. You are so nice to say that.

  • i am 16 and have had it since i was 8! everyday is different! God bless

  • Thanks i wish all the best to you aswell and thanks for all the useful info :)

  • @jadiann123 I'm glad you found it useful! I had fun putting it together.

  • Ive had diabetes when i was 7 also and i am 12 now but ive never took the needle when i was high unless i was like super high and i couldnt get back down. Also where did you get that book? When you looked up the cookie? Thanks

  • @jadiann123 Any time Anna has a blood sugar above 200, she always gives herself an insulin correction to help keep her blood sugar in a better range. We use the Calorie King book to look up carbs of a lot of things Anna likes to eat. I hope your management is going well. God bless you and your family.

  • What an articulate and awesome little girl. Thanks for the education.

  • Actually, 184 is a bit high to wake up at but I hope she's doing fine apart from that one morning :) But I think I was running a little higher than I'm now when I was 11, too. Some people need more insulin while growing up. Great video, though.

  • this video has helped me so much. i'm 16 and i don't have diabetes, but i have fasting hypoglycemia and i have to test my blood sugar when i feel low. i love this video and the way it's put together! =)

  • ohh i LOVE her earings!!

  • I hope theres a cure what a brave child
