  • Are you a real person?

  • Be honest.

  • good advice

  • i liked video games for over 12 monts ago and i still does

  • I like that wall of think geek clocks behind you chris. Those things are great conversation starters :D

  • cliche stay true to yourself my ass

  • Would it be a good idea if I my thumbnails would be me naked with a hand infront of my genitals so people would watch them more often?

  • Very well said, Chris. Even though you and I both know even after this video tons of people are going to ask how they can be you. One thing I have learned from following you for years now is that you definitely cannot replicate someone else's successes, yes I was one of those little boys who once asked the same question and tried and learned.

  • i like this about you, that you are soo open with us (..must be scary), i think it's the best thing on your channel or personality.

  • The thing is: Chris know how to run a business. This is the only thing you need imo.

  • thanks chris that is that was very inspiring and I will take your advice

  • don't take this personally but do you have high functioning autism? I have it and you come across in that way in my opinion. Juts out of curiosity

  • @KelanDWood Everyone has autism in some way nowadays

  • @KelanDWood Everyone has autism in some way nowadays

  • @Xeando ha ha

  • I D Like to review a product cause I love a product.....i Got audience of 13 people.....hahahahahahhahahahaha.....Chris U Rock!!!

  • I thought all one needed was glasses and a pc in the background.

  • Been doing the YouTube game for almost 3 years - another important part is connections, in this day and age it is much harder to become noticed on here vs. how it was in the past, so the bottom line is to network on here with other people like crazy. Then if one friend gets popular, you get popular through shout-outs and other means. This method is by far the best method to be popular, especially for those of you in the Let's Playing community on here.

  • @Aloyalgamer fancy meeting you here

  • @velocityeleven lmao hey dude

  • Very well done

  • Does 8 subs in 4 months feel like growth? yes it does, lay down a foundation and build upon it.

Feel free to quote me on that one, YouTube.

  • Thanks! Those are great tips, especially for a new guy.

  • The day will come when I credit Chris Pirillo for me being an aglet enthusiest.

  • advertise is the key...

  • Actually, I have only been a tech reviewer for about a year and I have a small audience but I am recognized by pretty big companies such as Switcheasy, Acase, and rooCASE. The best advice is try your best. If you work hard, you will succeed.

  • Great vid Chris. A little over the top but I assume that is what you are going for. Making sure that you have a passion for what you speak about is extremely important. Once again, great vid.

  • Ive been doing this youtube thing for 4 years now doing gaming, music, and more stuff and im barely almost up to 200 subs

  • You're such an awesome host! I liked the "be your self for a living" bit.

  • and backtrack linux ways

  • So if you didn't earn ANY MONEY WHATSOEVER on YouTube, would you still make videos?

  • Learning how to talk to people and having a good voice for communication is a real asset as well.

  • "you'd be pathetic if you had the same interests as 12 months ago" ...says the man who still plays with lego?

  • @Mysticalpooper at least he has the guts to play with lego.BTW anybody can play with lego

  • @Mysticalpooper LEGO is amazing. I personlly don't ahve any LEGO or Micecraft either. I make Linux videos but never really upload them, My Linux videos are on Gaming in Linux

  • ans you shouldn't have to be anyone but yourself!

  • 13 people audience who like to know what I know LOL

  • Google+ is so last month...

Nobody I know is on there, only strangers.

Google+ = the Chatroulette of social networking IMO

  • Expand your horizon. When are you going to listen metal, Chris?

  • Chris you should start talking about ufology too - geeks love that :P

  • No one uses Google+ anymore...

  • @isbilen10

Finally someone who agrees with me

  • Chris, i like your views and opinons on everything. Also we have the same name <3 ^.^

  • Great message Chris, u really made me re-think my business strategy for the upcoming years. Thanks! Wish u great success!

  • You are awesome Chris. May I call you the "Tech God" of YouTube?

  • I would say, Chris' reputation is decaying. His content is gettig really awful

  • @CDJSnede I agree. I want fulltime tech stuff, not community bullcrap that nobody cares about.

  • hey you should follow 30 of your subs on twitter t see how normal or weird they are, just for fun.

  • Chris, I don't know if you read all the comments, but I would really enjoy your videos with some natural lighting (...sunlight...). Maybe try to do them in the morning, or outside. That would be really nice. :-)

  • @Radu287 - Thanks for the feedback.

  • pines...

  • 15 years?

    You look young dude C:

  • @STARTproductions - It's the lack of sunlight.

  • I love my wacom tablet oUo

  • you look like italian :)

  • @Federico84 - You look like text.

  • @lockergnome and i'm also italian :P

  • He isn't like he used to be, he used to be more open to new ideas.

As a Tech Consultant, he's not suppose to use his personal preferences as the end-all-be-all. Like how he bags on android and says smart people get iphones, I say smart people get neither (as a toy) because they're designed to be thrown away. To me, a toy isn't designed to be thrown away after 2 years because it's not supported.

a waste of $500, but if you're doing work on it, it doesn't matter just as long as it gets work done

  • @commodore256 - You're misquoting. Everyone is entitled to their preferences. While on one hand Android has evolved into something remarkably usable, most devices aren't receiving updates to the current Android OS. You could say that some of these devices stop receiving support out of the box.

  • @lockergnome I think you did say smart people use iphones or something along those lines, but you might have been trolling (It's hard to tell)

I'm not bashing apple or defending android, just bashing the longevity of mobile computing as geek toys. But as tools, it doesn't matter just as long it get it's job done efficiently and you can replace the battery for cheap.

A thinkpad from 2003 runs angry birds fine and I would love to see the iphone first gen or the G-1 run new software in 2015.

  • Is he talking about RayWilliamJohnson RWJ? 4:00 - 4:12

  • @cybertourniquet - No.

  • CARS. Period.

  • chris kinda talks n looks like chuck off the tv show called chuck...

  • Great video Chris. Couldn't have said it better!

  • @applelife0800 - Thank you.

  • How to destroy your Reputation Online ?

you should know the answer to that one Chris

  • @Mrjackdaniels100 - I'm so glad you came by to tell me this. I'll take your advice to heart, truly. Can you start creating content on your channel and show us how it's done?

  • @lockergnome never worry about low ranked trolls, their only skill set is showing us they have none

  • this is one of my fave Chris Pirillo's video! Job well done!

  • @gariouscom - Thank you.

  • @lockergnome Building a reputation online is pretty easy. Just do whatever you want and keep at it, and make sure you frequently do whatever it is you do online. I'm well known as a user on certain forums online and to a small community on YouTube. =P It's good to stay true to yourself, but occasionally it is humorous to troll online...but just a little bit of course. =)

  • Why not be yourself. Everyone have there on unique style.

  • forget the haters....... be yourself.

  • Chris, I loved you're humor in this video, please make more videos like this.

  • @GrahamW0009 - Sure.

  • @lockergnome ... So, have you made $10,000,000 yet?

  • Thanks Chris for making this video, I my self am trying to build a audience on my YouTube channel. I review apps and tech, its my passion, I hope I can do it for a living one day :)

  • I've been the same person for 3 years.... Now you made me feel bad..... lol jk

I consider myself really passionate about music and computers lol

  • wow Chris is kinda NERDY <3

  • And yes, I agree that Google+ may very well overtake Facebook. While it doesn't seem like there are too many people I know on there now, it's still very new, and even FB started somewhere. I'm definitely not alone in quitting Facebook after a lot of their recent stunts. They could have stayed the #1 social network easily - sadly, seem to have blown that chance.

  • Who isn't on Facebook? Me. lol. There was a time when i loved Facebook, used it for years, had all my family and friends on there, and then.... among all the other privacy issues, they had to roll out the crazy new crap of asking everyone to confirm where their friends live. And it didn't stop there. They started showing me pictures from my friends' photo albums and asking me to identify pictures that contained them. That was a real WTF moment, and the same moment I deleted my account. Sorry FB!

  • Chris Pirillo, regardless as to whether or not you are a cybernetic robot created just to make humans happy, you inspire me! Thank you for doing what you love because if you didn't you probably wouldn't be the same person today nor would you be able to make people feel as entertained as you do now!

  • Chris forgot to mention, once again, several facts everybody loves to avoid mentioning. Perhaps it's because it takes away from that warm, fuzzy feeling of self accomplishment. Money, time, situation, and support, are perhaps the most important aspects of becoming a successful person in just about anything you do. I worked years, clawing my way up, got noticed by team liquid (Starcraft), and would have been set. All it took, was one friend screwing me over to take that all away in seconds.

  • I enjoy your videos very much.

  • I just know 1 way to destroy your reputation ....

Drinking wine like a retard on your vids.

  • @zizikelizike thats why he drinks it with confidence

  • R.I.P Dom

  • I WANT TO BE CHRIS!!!

  • kyle: thanks for answering my question

  • 1:48 AGLETS!

  • Being myself, sadly, is being the same person I was a year ago. I work, eat, and sleep, with occasional free time for gaming and YouTube. This country doesn't allow people to change as much as they would want to.

  • @taylor9124 You took the words right out of my mouth. The position I'm trapped in, keeps me from escaping the position I'm trapped in. It'd require me to stumble upon a large sum of money, something of which will never happen.

  • Comment removed

  • @taylor9124 It's not your country's job to allow you to change. It's yours.

  • I'd hate to have to witness you really snore . . .

  • How old are you......I guess 28

  • @gimiesome closer to late 30s

  • @gimiesome Chris is 38 years old. He's been doing this for over 15 years but I don't think he started before he was age 15, which would be the case if he were 28 years old.

  • @likeprestige Alright...Thanks. He has found the fountain.

  • Be a fag who live streams constantly and makes shitty YouTube videos.

  • So True! Walk your path, be yourself. Arrrrr. CaptRob

  • iv seen your face in dead island

    looks very similar

  • teach my friend teach my.

  • I will say this much about the "stuck in time" aspect of the chat around the 2:30 mark in this video: My interests are virtually the same as they were a year ago, and I have been about the same for many years.. but, when I think and nit-pick about things, I actually can see the subtle changes in how I am... the growth, and evolution. So, even if you don't feel like you are different, or if you DON'T want to be different... Trust me, you can look back and see change in yourself...

    Embrace it.

  • I'm honestly sick with people asking more popular YouTubers these sort of questions. I have no experience whatsoever, but I know that all you need to do is be creative, dedicated, and have fun. Nobody likes people who spam "Hey, check out my channel!". Do your best and if the content is good enough, the reputation will come. Some people nowadays are so caught up in online popularity and making money from AdSense. If you're one of those people, please stop. Thanks.

  • I like talking about music and making music. I am very, very slowly building up a following. If you like Pink Floyd and want to see what their new box set looks like, click on through to my channel. Hint, hint... :-)

  • I built my online reputation with Legos.

  • I like building pc´s :)

  • @lockergnome - i am passionate about tech, so how could i find a niche? I don't think that i should try and do something i am not passionate about, should i ? Like the idea of being real and truthful to yourself though (:

  • for some reason he looks like mclovin in this video LOL

  • Well, I don't have particular reputation, but in my small circle of Super Metroid hacking buddies, we get along really well. We all have a common interest, so we can greatly appreciate eachother's work more than outsiders of the community. They provide me with encouragement, compliments, and constructive criticism, and I greatly appreciate that. The reputation isn't on a individual's level, but as a collective. Which is why we share so much information with eachother.

  • Absolutely true Chris. Be genuine, be passionate and be confidant. I will be on the same level as you with time, there's no doubt in my mind but my path is so freaking different from yours. I have to say though that my 15,000 or so followers in my social networking over the past year tell me the same thing. They like me because I am me.

  • so baing a gamer all my life, haveing the same interests, just different ways of achieving them, being pasionate about them is ok.... you were doing this for 15 years chris, kinda strange what you just said..but yeah, being yourself rocks=)

  • "To move on is to grow" --We Came as Romans

  • Nice t-shirt!

  • This is SO inspiring. Hard to remember sometimes when you're working your butt off, not sure if you are making a difference. Thank you!!

  • Take away: Be yourself and you will find people who share the same mindset. Also it's good to be active on multiple site but it's better to be super active on one social networking site: Let it be Twitter/Fb or Google+.

Ahhh..Imp point, don't sound like a robot., better be a person and start replying to every comment which you get..!!!

None the less: Use one avatar everywhere so that people will start recognizing you...!

Question: Jack of all trades or master of one?? Which is better?

  • can you plz make a video on learning touch typing

  • "15 years under my belt," lol Chris is OLD!!!

  • technology :)

  • I cannot sign up for google+ because I am under 18. :(

  • @lockergnome - Music, programming, japan culture, art, and some other random stuff. I wanna give a bit of myself in my channel, but have no idea where to start. lol

  • I'm passionate about helping others through my website (dev-hq[DOT]net).

Progressing to get it popular and actually making the money to keep it afloat is bloody hard work - but it's totally worth it :)

  • @deckadad1

    Yeah you was first!

  • i'm not on noface....chogh, i mean facebook

  • so true

  • Chris is so successful because of his striking good looks.

  • @mrelclark94 - you're nuts.

  • i am passionate about trucks and lorrys

  • Making websites and videos!

  • well said

the BIG problem i see with many tubers who are trying to make it is they basically clone and copy other very popular tubers, and in my books that's a massive FAIL

  • @leokimvideo When I first started making LP's I copied toby tuner. But now I have my own persona

  • @leokimvideo but to be like lockergnome is always good!

  • Technology but only the hardware side of things, i like software too but im only passionate about hardware
