  • Too bad this song is so short. I wish more music (not just religious) was like this.

  • @kreiger If it helps, there are a few good recordings of "Come to Zion". Brigham Young's choir has a really good version of it.

  • Check out the collection by Vicky Cimprich, "Pretty Mothers Home". You will not find a better description of the time and the place through the eyes of a young girl who chooses a life among the people. Vicky lives in N Kentucky and did her research at Pleasant Hill. Her work is amazing and no one who reads it will ever forget it.

  • If you're interested in what the Shakers really believed and how they lived, here's a good book: "The Believers" by Janice Holt Giles.

  • There melodies are so sonorous. You don't hear hymns in minor keys like this so often. Really moving.

  • Come to Zion

Come to Zion, Come to Zion sinsick souls in sorrow bound. Lay your cares before the altar where true healing may be found. Shout Hallelujah Hallelujah praise resound o'er land and sea. All who will may come and share the glory of this jubillee.

  • I've been there. The acoustics of the singing spaces are remarkable. In one huge space, you can whisper to the wall on one side, and be heard clear across the room. The whole place invites a sense of tranquility, sturdiness, and dignity. Can't wait to go back.

  • @Kabukihomewood It is a fascinating place... also a little creepy.

  • Wow, that some singing wilth real resonance and clarity, quite moving really.

    What's the hymn / song?

    Thanks for posting.
