i personally like the 1st generation ipod touch look better. it looks more sophisticated in my opinion. plus it is easier to take apart. therefore if i have any problems i can fix them.

and the screen breaks not as easily.

It has to be upgraded because otherwise the cpu or whatever that the ipod touches have to control a app will not be able to handle it on the 1st generation, So basically your making your ipod touch 1g to think that the app is not that intence for it. I really don't know the real reason but, it is worth upgrading.... if your getting a new ipod touch wait untill the new one with 3.0 comes out.
