@DocMojave I thought he shot at the reflection of the sun in the other snipers scope? Or was it confirmed that he shot through the scope? It has been about 15 years since I've read his book and I can't remember.
@TheHashBot of course he did, I seen another Marine sniper do it in a controlled test. The Myth Busters just dident have the skill that Gunny Hathcock did....or as Gunny would have said, the luck that he had that day.
Hey has anyone heard of Robert A. Boyd??? He's a poser! He claims to have had 173 kills (unconfirmed) and has other dubious claims. Do not buy his book! HE IS A FAKE!!!
I HAVE NOTICED PEOPLE ON YOU TUBES STEALING GUNNY HATHCOCK II'S CAMO PICS ON HERE! THEY ARE PUTTING LIKE CHUCK'S AND OTHERS AND USING CARLOS'S CAMO GENIUS TO THEIR HERO--ERGHHHHHHH!
See wikipedia about Finnish sniper Simo Hayha (aka White Death) who killed 800 Russians in the Winter War in less than 100 days in 1939. He and Hatchcock were both hunters and shooters since childhood. Let's keep the tradition alive.
Can't compare 'em, period. Gunny Hatchcock used a Winchester Model70 with Unertl scope & a modified M2 machine gun on his record kill. In the sandbox there are long open fields of view and the snipers are using sniper-quality Barrett .50 semi-auto sniper rifles with muzzle brakes etc. That's not to diminish the exploits of the records setters in the sandbox, but Gunny Hatchcock is the undisputed king on the allied side of things.
Hell I can barely hit a 12x12 inch piece of paper at 350 yards much less nail a target at 1000-2500 yards.....jeez. Mind you thats with my ARs carry handle iron sights :D One cabt underestimate how well those things are made.
Gotta love the old gunney. The man had the eyes of a warrior, especially when talking about his countersniper kill - no shame, no contrition. Exactly what he should be feeling. I hope many snipers learned from these little tidbits of wisdom he dropped.
@Morepullups didn't know that, thanks. I know they (MythBusters) reenacted Hathcocks famous scope shot. The first time they failed (they were using modern equipment) the 2nd episode they used the same type equipment from the original time period and proved it was actually possible. So yeah they did 2 separate tests/shows. I'm not trying to discredit Rob Furlong or any other sniper, the point I was trying to make to "Flamur1985" is this channel is dedicated to Carlos Hathcock. Language barrier?
BTW Furlongs unit became the subject of a military police criminal investigation into inappropriate conduct of Canadian snipers. Allegations that one sniper, in a subsequent mission, sliced himself a souvenir from the battlefield: the finger of a dead Taliban fighter. I say if you train a man to be a warrior... well you get what you pay for. Rob Furlong is a fucking hero, no doubt, but like I've said a hundred times this channel is about Carlos Hathcock.
@Flamur1985 I have no problem -You just don't read much, I've seen all of the sniper shows/documentaries. I know about Rob Furlong which is part of the reason this channel is dedicated to Carlos Hathcock. I noticed you're in the Netherlands so you're most likely Dutch so Im guessing English is your second language. BTW Craig Harrison holds the record for the longest confirmed sniper kill in combat, at a range of 2,475 m (2,707 yd). As someone said Carlos Hathcock is the GodFather of snipers ;-)
@DocMojave dude i said only a other canadian sniper have the longest kill shot that he did in afghanistan so a documentary whats your problem dude youre brainwashed by this dude i said only an canadian sniper haves now the longest kill shot i didnt say anything about hanhcock go outside rofl
@Flamur1985 "Dude" the record is held by United Kingdom's Corporal of Horse (CoH) "Craig Harrison" who in November 2009 recorded a 2,475 m (2,707 yd) shot in the War in Afghanistan, exceeding Furlong's record by 45 m (49 yd). With the technology and talent now being focused on snipers the record will probably be broken again soon. Now get off your mommies laptop and go play with your Barbie Dolls. Talking to you is like talking to a bag of rocks, a wast of time, you just don't get it.
@DocMojave let me give some prospective. When Gunny H. shot that famous 1 mile head shot he did so with a Browning .50 cal Machine gun with a 10X scope duct taped to it and in single shot. In other words the rifling (which accounts for accuracy was looser to allow for volume of fire). Also at that time there was no official sniper school just the program. So Gunny not only set the bar he built the bitch one kill one low crawl one impossible through the scope shot at a time. There is no equal.
@entity623 Hathcock generally used the standard sniper rifle the Winchester Model 70 .30-06 caliber rifle with the standard 8-power Unertl scope. On some occasions, however, he used a different weapon: the Browning M2 machine gun, on which he mounted a 10X Unertl scope, using a bracket of his own design.Hathcock made a number of kills with this weapon in excess of 1,000 yards, including his record for the longest confirmed kill at 2,286 yards.Hathcock carried a Colt M1911A1 pistol as a sidearm.
@DocMojave I have him as my Desktop in the sitting sighting in with another Marine operating the radio. It reminds me of what War means to us. Also, why it is that Marines exist. We may know how to fight and win wars but really we are there to prevent it. By being so capable we repel and diminish the enemies willingness to engage us. We saw it in Iraq. We have been give titles by other armies. All because we are fine professional soldiers. (not really civilized though lol) Semper Fi.
@Flamur1985 HE MIGHT HAVE BROKE IT--HOWEVER HE IS NOT CLOSE TO BEING AS GOOD AS THE GREAT ONE!! SO YOU LAUGH YOUR ARSE OFF AT THAT!! BTW--YOU LOOK STUPID TO THOSE WHO KNOW,WHEN YOU TALK DOWN ABOUT HATHCOCK II--THE BEST OF ALL TIME!
i agree how come he did not get the C.M.H its not right i know he choose his job and done it well indeed i know there have been good snipers but hes the only one to crawl for 3 days right in a nva generals back yard and take him out
Just finished reading a book based on this Carlos Hathcock called:"Marine Sniper 93 Confirmed Kills" It was one of the best books i've read, this man was simply amazing
@remowil55 You are crazy he used nothing but a springfield, and is the one that invented the floating barrels for sniper rifles and was the National 1000 yd Champion numerous times. SO don't hate on the man. I would not expect army men to say anything nice about any marine, but show respect to the GOD of Snipers
@willefebvre9580,@bigtoe4u1977 Actually his weapon of choice was a scope-mounted Browning M-2 .50 caliber machine gun since he was a GYSGT. Also he favored the Winchester Model 70 sniper rifle chambered in .30-06 instead of the Springfield.
@JustinCB23 Actually sir that is what he fired for the longest comfirmed kill at that time, a 2500 m HEAD shot. And the Winchester was his comp weapon, and the springfield was issued to all snipers of the time. But at least you know a little something. lol
@JustinCB23 You should read the books on Gunny and you will learn a lot about the man, and legend of Gunny that lives on in every movie that has a sniper in it ... The shot through the scope of a rival sniper in combat, and is a confirmed kill.
@remowil55 He used a Springfield bolt action 30/06. That's not a machine gun. He is(was) the GODFATHER of snipers. He's techniques at the time were unheard of and his methods were extremely unorthodox.
@jonobrad100 You talk shit over the internet about a man that is 10x more of a man than you will ever be. You would'nt have the balls to step foot in Vietnam back then.
@razzopardi1 Don't know, Carlos shyed away from medals, but he also said, "he guessed he had a c o that didn't care about that kinda stuff". Carlos was never in it for the medals, but i have been trying for the past several years to get his Silver Star upgraded to The Medal of Honor he so richly deserves. But it is a difficult task. All it takes is for a U.S. Senator ask the Sec. of Defense to investagate his actions and by law he had to research Carlos's past to see if he deserves one.
@remowil55 if you need any help in getting his medal an upgrade to the Medal of Honor let me know. I will do what I can by writing or calling. He was and is a True American. I am honor that he served my Country and to be able to call him my American friend
@razzopardi1 it was offered to him but he refused it because he said he was just doing his job, thats a real marine right there he doesnt do it for the medals he does it for his brothers in arms
@MrRucknroll Amen, i was lucky enough to meet Gunny and it was something that this former marine will never forget. I was honestly in real awe. he answered that same question exactly how you said. What a man, marine, and the GOD of Scout Snipers everywhere!
@razzopardi1 because it would be a disgrace to him. He wouldn't take it or would accept it in honor of others. He is a Marine and we dont want medals. We want to fight and win wars everything else is civilian shit that the brass should handle. keep you medal sell it and buy some poor kid a christmas gift we will be out there doing what we do.
@groundzero94 Odd, the last thing i have been able to did up on Carlos Hathcock's career is, it is NOT known what happened to the Winchester Model 70 that Carlos used. I would suspect that he had it with him on the APC when it was blown up and burned. If it survived that the experts say most likely it was turned back into the Armory.
@remowil55 and again i sayed i got to hold one of his rifles i dont think it was his model 70 i have what it was on the pamphlet but i don`t know where it is
sure in saving private ryan the sniper scene where he shoots threw the enemy snipers scope was cool, but hathcock was able to do it in real life know thats a real sniper legend
@groundzero94 You may have gotten a Winchester Model 70, but you do not have the one Carlos used, it is not know what happened to it.. It is lost forever.
@remowil55 i said i got to hold one of his rifles not own, the owner of the rifle was one of his fellow snipers and secretary of the NRA. and it is known what happened to it i held it,and being a good Marine carlos should have never lost one of his rifles.
@metalmessiahmetal hey guess what. he had a scope on that. and he was sniping with the m2 .50 cal across hill 55 in vietnam. and snipers are not pussys. sniper are the most elite. bitch
@metalmessiahmetal what a meant is that they are one of the most elite. they go on suicide missions all th time. they are more elite than ifantry. but not the seals. or tf 141.
@DocMojave Hathcock's name always sounded ironic to me--Half-cocked, because he clearly wasn't. That said, I was a sniper--JUST KIDDING. I was a medic, 91B, and I can only respect and admire what Hathcock did.
@Foley03A4 confirmed 505 kills whit iron sighted M/28 and 200 whit submachine guns when hathcock killed only 93... also häyhä was in middle of war not war away from battlefield in some bush shooting couple Vietnamese head off. when winter war started häyhä was ordered as a sniper not rifle man he didn't use scope because hes head could been easier to shoot . also häyhä killed soviet union snipers which was ordered to kill Häyhä and they used scope not iron sight. so häyhä is better :D
@dyybe1 505 hording drunk Russians,Hell any dumby could kill 505 of them with a bb gun. There is a rule among snipers - Its not about how many you kill, but WHO you kill. Hathcock took out important targets,He was a better sniper.
@Foley03A4 yes sitting faraway in bush shooting couple important targets when häyhä was in middle of the battle when there was mortars other snipers and hell lot soldiers and häyhä did the kills in 100 days not in 20 years. then 5 days before the winter war stopped he was shot to chin whit unlegalized exploding bullet and survived.
@dyybe1 Are you pulling my dick with this Hayha ha ha ha crap? Well, are you? Then quit, you slimy fucking walrus-looking piece of shit! Get the fuck off of my Channel! Get the fuck down off of my Channel! NOW! MOVE IT! Or I'm going to rip your balls off, so you cannot contaminate the rest of the world! I will motivate you, Private Pyle of shit "dyybe1", IF IT SHORT-DICKS EVERY CANNIBAL ON THE CONGO!
@dyybe1SIMO HAYHA GOT HIS WHOLE DAMN JAW BLOWN OFF BY A RUSSIAN REGULAR--LIKE CARLOS SAYS--MISTAKE!!! CARLOS NORMAN HATHCOCK II NEVER GOT HIT BY AN ENEMY SNIPER!! YOU FINNS ARE REALLY GETTING ON MY NERVES AND WISH TO GOD I COULD GET MY HANDS ON SOME OF YOU SO CALLED TOUGH BASTARDS FOR STEPPING ON MY HERO!!
@Dogmeat1950 yes i argue with the finnish almost daily on the fact that Carlos Hathcock shot high value targets and NEVER got hit by enemy sniper and simo hayha their best shot stuck russian regulars and low valued targets--however its about 50 of them against just me but it dont matter iam going down swinging for carlos because i believe 100% he is the best sniper to have lived to date!!
@BubbaLee2 ya, well Finns are great people.they just need to know that there is a huge difference between the two men, Carlos was a Excellent sniper and a master stacker. and to be fair he was a better shot at longer ranges. hell he pulled a 1500 meter shot with only 1 shot one kill even the Canadian that broke his recorded had to make 3 shots just to kil 1 guy at 1600 meters plus that Canadian had a Range finder and a spotter.Carlos didn't have either.
@BubbaLee2 Kinda sounds like your arguing semantics. Like "who's the best soldier"? They were two different men fighting in vastly different landscapes and under extremely different situations in two different wars that are decades apart. One stalked through the jungles of Vietnam for days to eliminate generals, the other was entrenched for weeks fighting off an army single handed, I'd say they were both quite respectable soldiers in their own rights.
@groundzero94 My bad, I thought you said you "got a hold of one of his rifles". Like it was auctioned off or something. A lot of people blow smoke so I assumed that. Sounds very interesting, cool, did you get any pictures by any chance. Which rifle was it?
@DocMojave i did not get eney pics. i will tell you the names of the rifles but i am not sure what one was his i forget he had a few from vietnam one was (1952 mic), (MID), winchester model 70 and remington model m40. i have a panflet from when i was there it gives all the info on the rifles and the flash hiders on them and the optics.i think it is kinda funny all there are just regular hunting rifles.
I first heard of carlos on the military channel. They were teeling aniper atories and one of them was of how he crawled 1300 yards through enemy patrols for three straight days and nights without sleep or food to take out a single target. This feat was so admirable i decided to look him up. He is my motivation to become a Marine Corps. Scout Sniper. May he rest in peace
@D3V1LD0G96 well iam glad to hear that--u ought to read his books, they are simply awesom!!! WHITEFEATHER-----93 CONFIRMED MARINE SNIPER------SILENT WARRIOR----these three are really good and i wish you well in being a scout sniper!!!GOD BLESS!!
@hiraxm OSWALD WAS NOT ALONE!!! THERE WAS ANOTHER SHOOTER THERE AT 1 O'CLOCK FROM THE CAR JFK WAS RIDING IN---SORRY DOC I KNOW THIS IS A CARLOS VID BUT I WANTED TO ANSWER THIS HERE---OSWALD WAS A GOOD SNIPER HOWEVER IF U LOOK AT THE PRESIDENTS HEAD HE WAS CLEARLY SHOT FROM THE SIDE AS WELL!!! THIS IS A COVER-UP PLAN AND SIMPLE!!!
Well I guess the character in the book and Carlos Hathcock share some pretty big similarities. But in the newest book in the series Carlos makes an appearance. Point of Impact was the first one.
the shot thru the scope is a fact not legend--carlos's col. jim ed land saw the scope it was a pu scope, also carlos's spotter that day confirmed the story
@88pie88 And the story of 700+ kills, there is absolutely no way that could be confirmed!! An officer of at least O2 grade must identify and record each kill in order for it to be legit. I absolutely do not believe 1 man wiped out over 700 men single handedly, others might I cant, I've seen how its done, done it and live it, but if they want to record it as such, they can, his word may have been "Bond" who knows
@88pie88 He isnt labeled as even the best, he is one of the best, 2nd in US History, only falling short to Adelbert Waldron III. I served 9 years US Army, Sniper qualified, and in school the Instructors went in depth to Sniper History, we had to pass test on it. Ask any Sniper Candidate and they'll tell you Hathcock and Waldron were bad ass snipers, but more importantly, STAND UP Men!! And Soviet snipers have nothing on Both German and American Snipers
Just wanted to say that carlos hathcock was one of the "founders" of the marine corps scout sniper program. he was one of the best of his time. 93 confirmed kills including one that was thought impossible at the time(he snuck into the enemy general compound and stalked the guy for five days just to get his kill.) he also help 100 enemy soldiers for five days killing a third of them. there have been many people that have passed his score. but he was the best of his time!
@mafiaslicka Totally agree, Lil Russian Soldier came back saying look look I killed 70 and, and, and uh, 2! Yeah! 702 thats what I did, put me in a book!! For the record I dont really beieve his through the scope shot, Myth Busters did it and it was at close range, perfect conditions and it still couldnt go all the way through until they used "Armor Piercing rounds". They also used current ammo of today. So I dont buy the one shot through the eye socket at all
@TeddyB1030 Well the shot through the scope is not a myth. It has been proven it is in the record books. In order to have a kill confirmed it had to be done by a third party. This was done in the case where Carlos shot through the scope from 300 yards. And by the by Carlos used a Winchester Model 70 30-06 with full metal jackets or armor piercing rounds loaded to his specs.
@nwoff88 Carlos's 50 cal shot was from a 50 BMG, sighted in at 1000 yards and 2500 yards, Carlos made the kill from 2500 yards on the first shot, or 7500 feet which is 1.42 miles. Carlos was, is and always will be the greatest sniper who ever lived. Read about this true American Hero, before you talk about him, and say things that are not the truth or the fact are wrong.
@88pie88 Body count doesn't make a fucking sniper anyways. This channel tributes him, because he has done what very few have. Which is his job. Snipers do alot more than just kill. They are intel, opposition, confusion, support, and about 400 other things. One of his most major shots was 300 yards, shot through his targets scope and killed him. Which has been repeatidly replicated down to the science. Which has shown time and time agian, it's a hell of a shot.
Zaitsev may have had more kills, but Hathcock had to work harder and under more dangerous conditions to get his kills. Plus Hathcock did more stalk and kill, Zaitsev set up in different areas and let the enemy come to him. Both great snipers but I'd have to go with Hathcock.
Another thing to keep in mind is the Soviets exagerated their kills as they have always exagerated everything. Par for the course with the USSR. Propaganda and lying.
I have always had much respect for this man since I read the book about him long ago. This is my first time hearing him speak. During his recollection of the NVA platoon he took out, you can gather that he is holding back a few emotions he probably had a lot of time to think over. This made me respect him even more. He's not just some machine. He's a human being who values life, but had the courage to do his job to save his brethern in combat. God bless Carlos Hathcock.
@88pie88 hey 88 its me bubba--ive had your back against those simo followers remember?? anyway the kill ratio is not what u want to soley look at to figure the best sniper--so most dont mean the best--good to see u again!!

DocMojave 4 months ago
dude rofl just check discovery channel sniper season they tell in that interview that he did break his record or so idk whatsyour problem dude lmao
Flamur1985 4 months ago
@Flamur1985 I have no problem -You just don't read much, I've seen all of the sniper shows/documentaries. I know about Rob Furlong which is part of the reason this channel is dedicated to Carlos Hathcock. I noticed you're in the Netherlands so you're most likely Dutch so Im guessing English is your second language. BTW Craig Harrison holds the record for the longest confirmed sniper kill in combat, at a range of 2,475 m (2,707 yd). As someone said Carlos Hathcock is the GodFather of snipers ;-)
DocMojave 4 months ago
@DocMojave dude i said only a other canadian sniper have the longest kill shot that he did in afghanistan so a documentary whats your problem dude youre brainwashed by this dude i said only an canadian sniper haves now the longest kill shot i didnt say anything about hanhcock go outside rofl
Flamur1985 4 months ago
@Flamur1985 "Dude" the record is held by United Kingdom's Corporal of Horse (CoH) "Craig Harrison" who in November 2009 recorded a 2,475 m (2,707 yd) shot in the War in Afghanistan, exceeding Furlong's record by 45 m (49 yd). With the technology and talent now being focused on snipers the record will probably be broken again soon. Now get off your mommies laptop and go play with your Barbie Dolls. Talking to you is like talking to a bag of rocks, a wast of time, you just don't get it.

@DocMojave one number 93
entity623 3 months ago
@entity623 Correct. Its not all about the number though, at that time Gunny did things that were unprecedented. 93!
DocMojave 3 months ago
@DocMojave let me give some prospective. When Gunny H. shot that famous 1 mile head shot he did so with a Browning .50 cal Machine gun with a 10X scope duct taped to it and in single shot. In other words the rifling (which accounts for accuracy was looser to allow for volume of fire). Also at that time there was no official sniper school just the program. So Gunny not only set the bar he built the bitch one kill one low crawl one impossible through the scope shot at a time. There is no equal.
entity623 3 months ago
@entity623 Hathcock generally used the standard sniper rifle the Winchester Model 70 .30-06 caliber rifle with the standard 8-power Unertl scope. On some occasions, however, he used a different weapon: the Browning M2 machine gun, on which he mounted a 10X Unertl scope, using a bracket of his own design.Hathcock made a number of kills with this weapon in excess of 1,000 yards, including his record for the longest confirmed kill at 2,286 yards.Hathcock carried a Colt M1911A1 pistol as a sidearm.
DocMojave 2 months ago
@DocMojave I have him as my Desktop in the sitting sighting in with another Marine operating the radio. It reminds me of what War means to us. Also, why it is that Marines exist. We may know how to fight and win wars but really we are there to prevent it. By being so capable we repel and diminish the enemies willingness to engage us. We saw it in Iraq. We have been give titles by other armies. All because we are fine professional soldiers. (not really civilized though lol) Semper Fi.

@willefebvre9580 Agree 1000%, Airforce showing respect.
bigtoe4u1977 4 months ago
@willefebvre9580,@bigtoe4u1977 Actually his weapon of choice was a scope-mounted Browning M-2 .50 caliber machine gun since he was a GYSGT. Also he favored the Winchester Model 70 sniper rifle chambered in .30-06 instead of the Springfield.
JustinCB23 4 months ago
@JustinCB23 Actually sir that is what he fired for the longest comfirmed kill at that time, a 2500 m HEAD shot. And the Winchester was his comp weapon, and the springfield was issued to all snipers of the time. But at least you know a little something. lol
willefebvre9580 4 months ago
@JustinCB23 You should read the books on Gunny and you will learn a lot about the man, and legend of Gunny that lives on in every movie that has a sniper in it ... The shot through the scope of a rival sniper in combat, and is a confirmed kill.
willefebvre9580 4 months ago
@remowil55 He used a Springfield bolt action 30/06. That's not a machine gun. He is(was) the GODFATHER of snipers. He's techniques at the time were unheard of and his methods were extremely unorthodox.

Senator ask the Sec. of Defense to investagate his actions and by law he had to research Carlos's past to see if he deserves one.
remowil55 5 months ago

@groundzero94 Odd, the last thing i have been able to did up on Carlos Hathcock's career is, it is NOT known what happened to the Winchester Model 70 that Carlos used. I would suspect that he had it with him on the APC when it was blown up and burned. If it survived that the experts say most likely it was turned back into the Armory.

Foley03A4 10 months ago
@Foley03A4 confirmed 505 kills whit iron sighted M/28 and 200 whit submachine guns when hathcock killed only 93... also häyhä was in middle of war not war away from battlefield in some bush shooting couple Vietnamese head off. when winter war started häyhä was ordered as a sniper not rifle man he didn't use scope because hes head could been easier to shoot . also häyhä killed soviet union snipers which was ordered to kill Häyhä and they used scope not iron sight. so häyhä is better :D
dyybe1 10 months ago
@dyybe1 505 hording drunk Russians,Hell any dumby could kill 505 of them with a bb gun. There is a rule among snipers - Its not about how many you kill, but WHO you kill. Hathcock took out important targets,He was a better sniper.
Foley03A4 10 months ago
@Foley03A4 yes sitting faraway in bush shooting couple important targets when häyhä was in middle of the battle when there was mortars other snipers and hell lot soldiers and häyhä did the kills in 100 days not in 20 years. then 5 days before the winter war stopped he was shot to chin whit unlegalized exploding bullet and survived.

BubbaLee2 9 months ago
@BubbaLee2 ya, well Finns are great people.they just need to know that there is a huge difference between the two men, Carlos was a Excellent sniper and a master stacker. and to be fair he was a better shot at longer ranges. hell he pulled a 1500 meter shot with only 1 shot one kill even the Canadian that broke his recorded had to make 3 shots just to kil 1 guy at 1600 meters plus that Canadian had a Range finder and a spotter.Carlos didn't have either.
Dogmeat1950 9 months ago
@BubbaLee2 agreed and he's the only guy to hit a dude through the scope lens
koryworm 9 months ago
@BubbaLee2 Kinda sounds like your arguing semantics. Like "who's the best soldier"? They were two different men fighting in vastly different landscapes and under extremely different situations in two different wars that are decades apart. One stalked through the jungles of Vietnam for days to eliminate generals, the other was entrenched for weeks fighting off an army single handed, I'd say they were both quite respectable soldiers in their own rights.
RiverSolitaire 9 months ago
@groundzero94 My bad, I thought you said you "got a hold of one of his rifles". Like it was auctioned off or something. A lot of people blow smoke so I assumed that. Sounds very interesting, cool, did you get any pictures by any chance. Which rifle was it?
DocMojave 10 months ago
@DocMojave i did not get eney pics. i will tell you the names of the rifles but i am not sure what one was his i forget he had a few from vietnam one was (1952 mic), (MID), winchester model 70 and remington model m40. i have a panflet from when i was there it gives all the info on the rifles and the flash hiders on them and the optics.i think it is kinda funny all there are just regular hunting rifles.

emaninlove1 1 year ago
@88pie88 And the story of 700+ kills, there is absolutely no way that could be confirmed!! An officer of at least O2 grade must identify and record each kill in order for it to be legit. I absolutely do not believe 1 man wiped out over 700 men single handedly, others might I cant, I've seen how its done, done it and live it, but if they want to record it as such, they can, his word may have been "Bond" who knows
TeddyB1030 1 year ago
@88pie88 He isnt labeled as even the best, he is one of the best, 2nd in US History, only falling short to Adelbert Waldron III. I served 9 years US Army, Sniper qualified, and in school the Instructors went in depth to Sniper History, we had to pass test on it. Ask any Sniper Candidate and they'll tell you Hathcock and Waldron were bad ass snipers, but more importantly, STAND UP Men!! And Soviet snipers have nothing on Both German and American Snipers

So I dont buy the one shot through the eye socket at all
TeddyB1030 1 year ago
@TeddyB1030 Well the shot through the scope is not a myth. It has been proven it is in the record books. In order to have a kill confirmed it had to be done by a third party. This was done in the case where Carlos shot through the scope from 300 yards. And by the by Carlos used a Winchester Model 70 30-06 with full metal jackets or armor piercing rounds loaded to his specs.

nwoff88 1 year ago
@nwoff88 Carlos's 50 cal shot was from a 50 BMG, sighted in at 1000 yards and 2500 yards, Carlos made the kill from 2500 yards on the first shot, or 7500 feet which is 1.42 miles. Carlos was, is and always will be the greatest sniper who ever lived. Read about this true American Hero, before you talk about him, and say things that are not the truth or the fact are wrong.
remowil55 1 year ago
@88pie88 Body count doesn't make a fucking sniper anyways. This channel tributes him, because he has done what very few have. Which is his job. Snipers do alot more than just kill. They are intel, opposition, confusion, support, and about 400 other things. One of his most major shots was 300 yards, shot through his targets scope and killed him. Which has been repeatidly replicated down to the science. Which has shown time and time agian, it's a hell of a shot.
xavier0307 1 year ago
Zaitsev may have had more kills, but Hathcock had to work harder and under more dangerous conditions to get his kills. Plus Hathcock did more stalk and kill, Zaitsev set up in different areas and let the enemy come to him. Both great snipers but I'd have to go with Hathcock.
BLong114 1 year ago 3
Another thing to keep in mind is the Soviets exagerated their kills as they have always exagerated everything. Par for the course with the USSR. Propaganda and lying.

I have always had much respect for this man since I read the book about him long ago. This is my first time hearing him speak. During his recollection of the NVA platoon he took out, you can gather that he is holding back a few emotions he probably had a lot of time to think over. This made me respect him even more. He's not just some machine. He's a human being who values life, but had the courage to do his job to save his brethern in combat. God bless Carlos Hathcock.
