My soul doth magnify the Lord. I am so happy this morning. This posting brings tears to my eyes and makes me wave my hands in the air , and yell out thank you Jesus. Babies this pilgrim journey is not easy. Oh but the great blessing is that in the end. If you live right and treat others as you would like to be treated. You shall see Him in all his glory. Hallelujah!
in tears... many problems... many pains... to hear this song... i just have to say THANK YOU for posting it... you may never know the thing this song has stopped me from doing. thank you... thank you
I love this song because it soothes my soul.... Mildred Falls is superb on the piano and Willie Web is easy on the organ. This is pure Chicago Gospel music
Yes I want to see Jesus Who bore His cross in my stead Who willingly suffered affliction All I want up in Heaven, Precious Fount that was opened on Calvery: Joy will be mine there forever, Just to beold His face. Chorus: Just to behold His face Just to behold His face All I want up in Heaven, Just to behold His face
Your observation is accurate, she stood on the shoulders of saints before...however, it makes Mahalia no less great or any less anointed, although with "heavenly arrangement".
"Great Gettin' Up Morning" was the first album that exposed me to the blessed ministry of Mahalia Jackson. I was in S.Carolina @ my Grandparents' house and they still had their album turntable. I put that album on and told them: "that woman can sing!!!!!. My mother overheard me and bought me Mahalia's Sing America's Favorite Hymns". I have been an avid listener ever since. Thanks for the memories!
This is one of Lucie E. Campbell's masterpieces. She wrote this song b/c she was "put out of the local church of which she was a member due to her dispute w/ the Pastor.
both songs apply. You can find this information in the book entitled "We'll Understand it Better By and By" about the Gospel Composers: Kenneth Morris, Charles Tindley, Roberta Martin, Thomas A. Dorsey, and my favorite: Rev. Herbert W. Brewster.
Dwayne u know this is my song man....it gets me everytime I hear it...the delivery is so anointed and smooth....this along with Clara's "Just One Moment" and Roberta Martin's "Eternal in Heaven" are the only songs I sing at funerals.
Dwayne, i just heard this for the first time on the record i bought off of ebay a few weeks ago, and i must declare this is my favorite Hella song... thanks for posting!
Mildred Falls: piano, Ralph Jones : Hammond. I'm not sure of the drumer or the bass palyer.

Do you know whatever happened to Willie Webb? Wasn't he in Roberta Martin's group?

Not just to kneel with the angels
Not to see loved ones who've gone
Not just to drink from the fountain
under the great white throne
Not for the Crown that you've given
Oh that I'm trying to run this race
All I want Lord up in Heaven in Heaven
Just to behold his face

If anyone can tell me of anyone living or dead that has a greater more beautiful voice than Mahalia Jackson did, please do.
I can't think of any and I have listened to many gospel singers of all nations.
Her anointing also was tremendous. It can still be felt even after she is gone.

Mary Johnson Davis, Willie Mae Ford Smith, Willa Ward, Bessie Griffin, and many, many, more that never were recorded.
God blessed Mahalia with "heavenly arrangement" she listened to these singers above mentioned and took pieces of their styles to make hers!

Jackson's voice was greater and more beautiful than all those you mentioned. This is my opinion.

I will accept your opinion but please listen to the other singers..... Each will give a kaleidoscope of what African-American Gospel is all about....
I enjoy the genre very much and Mahalia is the most spirit filled; but all the singers were spirit-filled

I'm not Black and do not see her singing as "African American" gospel. I see it as songs about God and most songs she sang were written by Whites.
I see it as simply gospel music and not as Black music.
I have no idea who all the other Black singers are never heard of them.

My favorite song of all time that this great woman of God sang.
