@Anetuka Is it in part 2? I kind of don't see him there. I see the Chemistry teacher, the teacher of Latin, the teacher of trigonometry, and then we see Keating. Do you mean the trigonometry teacher? But he doesn't look like George Martin at all!
You can throw a stone at me, but, having watched this movie, I still think mr. Keating is sharing the responsibility for the boy's death - along with his father. It's a terrible combination of a parent going one extreme and a teacher going another. What a terrible lack of cooperation between a parents and a teacher: father was too far from his son, but the son was too close with the teacher. There was absolutely no fellowship between the teacher and the parent - that's just terrible!
@more1and1more I can't help but to disagree. Neil's father was an oppressive asshole. He demonstrated perfectly how not to be a father. Mr. Keating simply gave him inspiration. He showed Neil, all of them, that no, it doesn't have to be this way just because the system says so. Sure, without Mr. Keating, Neil's life might have been prolonged, but even then, he'd probably be pushed to suicide eventually. He lived a short life. But perhaps that's better than a long life lived in utter misery.
@YourVelvetTouch (1) Mr Keating's teaching often lead boys to do wrong things (a boy feeling a girl at the party, the suicidal boy impersonating his father in writing a letter, another boy ridiculing a professor in front of audience, etc.) Had it not been for Keating's "freedom-inspirational" teaching the boy would've not gone for the play and, thus, would've not been so much disappointed later. Who knows, he might have gone for it later when his dad would have already
@YourVelvetTouch (2) had less authority over him - when the boy would have already had enough freedom to choose things for himself and not be so emotionally distressed. Whatever way you put it, you can't deny that there was a blare lack of cooperation and even communication between teachers and parents regarding the children. The only time when Keating communicated with the child's father was right after the play - too little too late.
keating is really awesome. He teaches his students to think out of the box! I am a teacher , this movie is truly amazing. Kuedos to Robin Williams.He had always touched my heart

@clubkidzfi GetSqueaky is making a reference to the fact that the boy at 0:56 has light blonde hair like Draco Malfoy and large spectacles like Harry Potter. They did not say that it was either or both of them.
Hats off to this movie. I don't remember the last time i felt so moved whilst watching a movie. And people don't realise how prestige the ending was and the symbolism of the voyage these teenagers faced from finding out the true beauty of English literature. I had a teacher like Mr Keading once, but then i moved schools and everytime I'm about to lose interest in the beauty of literature, I just remember my teacher and I feel inspired once again.
Note how many students are standing upon their tables. This might be a symbollic redirection to the apostles for there are 10 students standing, Keating makes 11, and Cameron (Judas) makes 12.
A fantastic film that captivated the true essence of beauty and inspiration. This film teaches us that we need to appreciate life and capture the moment we are now living in. Are we doing what we want? Are we living our lives in the way we want to - or do we let others decide for us? CARPE DIEM!
In this cruel controlled society, we must as individuals fight for truth. Stand up for what we believe in (pun intended). We must follow our dreams/passion and never let anyone tell us diifferent!
wow.. this scene.. it tells you to arise above your fears and stand for the truth and what is right. beautiful .. :') and when you do that, your worries and fears seem so small, like the headmaster =D
I think this film shows what a teacher should really be like. Every student should be able to worship a teacher like this. He gave these boys a new outlook on life and was there for them when no other teacher would. 'oh captain, my captain'. Fantastic movie and very touching and moving!! Thanks for uploading
Okay I know at the end everything is kinda better because they learn to think for themselves and suck the marrow out of life and whatnot, but I have two things to say:
@Tomboyishness thats three things. But I say the same. i especially feel the same way about number 2. I love the way Todd learns to speak up and raise his voice, even encouraging his peers to follow his lead. That's one of the most moving themes of this film. Not only learning to have your own voice but using it. GO TODD! And of course Mr. Keating for achieving this.
What kind of prick would you have to be to stay seated while everyone around you is paying respect to the greatest teacher ever. Hats off to those standing especially Todd who had the guts to stand for what is right.
For those who haven't, try watch Scent of a Woman, starred Al-Pacino. It's something like this, but in my opinion is better. Just a suggestion though.
I am a 1st year student in a Japanese University. I first met this movie when I was a junior high school student and I remember being so moved. Of course this movie ends with very impressing BGM and greatly brave students standing on their desks so that this end seems to be happy or good, but carefully considering, that is never the case: for all the students must restart again the strict study life only for the entrance exam in spite of knowledge of the 'true' importance of love, romance, etc.
@FALALALA8902 i don't think the ending means that everything is good, and the boys are going to 'live happily ever after'. it holds a more symbolic meaning i believe. to me, it's about hope and perserverance;)
The final scene was very moving. However, Mr Keating still lost his job because the boys albeit backed into a corner, sold him out. So them declaring loyalty at the end doesn't count for all that much in the real world.
@koukouroukou7484 ehh. maybe. don't forget that the school enlisted the help of the boys' parents as well. they couldn't be blamed. keating was going down regardless.
@koukouroukou7484 maybe... but i don't think that it's so much declaring their loyalty than apologizing to mr keating and thanking him for everything that he'd taught them. it also showed their respect for him:)
@koukouroukou7484 Somehow, i dont think hed care all that much. They showed that they didnt blame him, and they respected and thanked him for everything hed done for them.
Although the flim is slightly trite in parts, the ending does well in showing that when a free thinker (such as Keating) is discarded by society, they have to be stood up for; it is never enough for one to stand up for himself, one needs the support of the people he is trying to liberate.
This film is a wonderful depiction of how we have to live for ourselves and not somebody else. Life is the present. We've only got one chance, one life. Indeed, nature is beautiful. It's free. It's the world we strive for; however, the same world from which we tend to brake apart. The longings become overwhelming as when he runs through the snow or Neil, out of total dismay, passes into his crowned play of passion and bravery.
a very touching and inspiring movie for all the students and of course, for the teachers!!! O Captain, My Captain, Mr. Keating.. I salute you!!! the best film ever
This ending... It makes me laught and cry. Happiness tears. Evertytime I watch this film, I would die with Neil, but I would be on my desk with this students who learnt to be unique, to distance themselves from the conformism. One of best film ever <3 !
Absolutely fantastic film. I always cry at the end. I would like to honour (on my part) this to John Chadfield of Wilnecote High School, Tamworth, Staffordshire, England, my Muse & Guru. Selah. x x
I like the last guy who stood up (can't remember his name, but just that he was the guy who had a one line poem). He looks around and then is like "welp, Keating had a sense of humour, so fuck da authoritayyy"
I cant stop crying. Thats so sad. We saw this film in englishlesson and the whole class was quiet (thats not normal situation).
I can't understand how humans can become assholes like Neils father. It's not fair. Neil was just explorering his own wishes and feelings and then this fucking father destroied all. But also Icant understand Neil. Why didn't he fight for his dreams. Why didn't he leave his parents for example? It's not worth to die for someone like his father!!!
@flyingbird0011 If you've spend your entire life crippled by someones authority, it's hard to see, that you may have another choice... So Neil did the only thing he could think of, that would end his misery... Really sad of course, but that's the whole point of Neil dying in the movie... So that people can understand what oppression can lead to...
im at my work place... yesterday i started to watch this movie but I couldnt finished it... i thought i could finish it here during the boring part of my work, but now teardrops are just coming from my eyes and I cannot stop crying
Can anybody help me find George Martin here? Wiki says that he is playing one of the professors.

@more1and1more George Martin plays the maths teacher, just before the scene where Keating appears in the English class for the very first time.

¡Oh Capitán! ¡Mi capitán! Nuestro espantoso viaje ha concluido;
El barco ha enfrentado cada tormento, el premio que buscamos fue ganado;

O CAPTAIN! my Captain! our fearful trip is done;
The ship has weather’d every rack, the prize we sought is won;
The port is near, the bells I hear, the people all exulting,
While follow eyes the steady keel, the vessel grim and daring:
But O heart! heart! heart!
O the bleeding drops of red,
Where on the deck my Captain lies,
Fallen cold and dead. Only part of it, but a truly aewsom poem & an even better film!!

This ending... It makes me laught and cry. Happiness tears. Evertytime I watch this film, I would die with Neil, but I would be on my desk with this students who learnt to be unique, to distance themselves from the conformism. One of best film ever <3 !

Missing me one place search another,
I stop somewhere waiting for you"

I'm headed your way, Keating. So wait up a bit longer =]

I almost cried during this moive. The ending is just beautiful :)
It's tragic what happened to Neil. He would have been an amazing actor, and a wonderful person

I want you to feel the passion running up from deep inside of you, the passion, the fire, let it flow to your fingertips.
Pick up a pen, right now, and let this passion run like a wildfire as your fingers dance across a sheet of paper!
LET YOUR EMOTIONS AND YOUR PASSION RUN FREE!

@yusongo When my heart stops, and my breath is still
When body fails and turns cold
Do not mourn my passing,
For I have not yet passed on
Do not grieve my dying,
For I am not yet dead.
My poem for Neil :)

@WattpadUser -But remember me, and
Do rejoice your sweet life,
In which my spirit sings on.
Do breathe with full heart;
For I have lived joyously once,
When my spirit dared flew, and
When it now calls to you.

Absolutely fantastic film. I always cry at the end. I would like to honour (on my part) this to John Chadfield of Wilnecote High School, Tamworth, Staffordshire, England, my Muse & Guru. Selah. x x

This really shows that it's hard and painful to be out of the box.
But it's the best place to be.

It's not worth to die for someone like his father!!!
flyingbird0011 1 year ago
@flyingbird0011 If you've spend your entire life crippled by someones authority, it's hard to see, that you may have another choice... So Neil did the only thing he could think of, that would end his misery... Really sad of course, but that's the whole point of Neil dying in the movie... So that people can understand what oppression can lead to...
