Love Blind Melon!! I saw Travis and he was good and it was cool to bring the vibe back live~no one like Shannon though man, ever.... hats off to Trav , he, like Shannon, has a unique voice but he knew those shoes were too big to fill.
I don't think you guys have ever seen Travis singing live. I did in 2008 in Fort Lauderdale. He sure is in his own league. He's not Shannon but never tried to be. He himself said it at the show. Great guy. Not a vocalist you see everyday. It's a shame he left the band. It was a magic moment to watch these guys.
Of course I miss Shannon and admire him for what he meant to music, for what he MEANS to music and what his songs mean to me.. but I hate it when everyone keeps on saying "without shannon it isn't Blind Melon"... it wouldn't be if he were alive and left the band, but this guy died. They will never replace him, he will be part of them forever... now let the ones that are still alive go on with the band they formed with so much effort and years of work... death is part of life itself
It's his voice that makes me feel. Strikes a chord in me I always felt. His voice somehow makes it all. Shannon was a gifted singer, he could take you from your chair to the ceiling and down to the basement. Shannon sang with raw emotion. Watch some of the other vids, watch the practice sessions, the behind the scene. He was, IMHO, very damn cool, and this world is poorer for his absence.
@nashnwo1234 I agree about shannons lyrics making you think. many of the songs were a group effort lyrically. I just feel the band has a right to continue making music. the band was blind melon not shannon hoon. its ridiculous to overlook the musicians in the background. they definately contributed to the blind melon sound. also layne staley is the one who died from alice in chains not jerry cantrell
Thats not fair considering the other band members made just as many contributions to the band as shannon. They all wrote the lyrics. Shannon didn't even write their most well known song (no rain). I love shannons voice, that cannot be replace. I feel it in my soul. But Shannon lost the battle and the rest of the band should be able to keep going. I guess my point is would everyone be as pissed if say the drummer died and they replaced him? Its just as much their band as it was shannons.
@newrealization12 as much as i love the song "no rain", which im well aware was written by the bass player about some ex girlfriend of his, it doesnt hold a candle to songs like "mouthful of cavities" or "glitch" or "i wonder" or a dozen other songs. shannons lyrics made you really think. no rain is a good song but i dont want to hear it being sung by anyone other than shannon, he brought it to life. same goes for layne staley singing songs that cantrel wrote in alice in chains. its true magic.
the reality is if they try to keep the band going without shannon then its because they need the money from their band name. otherwise why are you replacing the voice and lyrics and personality of the band. shannon was the only thing separating these guys from the slew of other bands that sound just like them
@nashnwo1234 ok listen every band member plays a part in a band im sure the chorus the melody the drums the bass line werent all done by Shannon its a band effort not just one person even if the drummer died their sound would change thats a fact not a theory btw their drummer has a unique style in my opinion
@nashnwo1234 I completely disagree. You aren't giving the other band members enough credit. Shannon was special but the whole band was talented. Shannon was a friend to all the members. If they thought it would be disrespectful to him they wouldn't do it. They are paying tribute by singing his words in front of blind melon fans. His mom and daughter support the band in moving forward. My only question is why can't all the blind melon fans? You can always hear shannons stuff on youtube.
@newrealization12 theres a million talented musicians walking this planet. ive seen 12 year olds make some amazing music on their instraments. you wanna tell me that there are a million people like shannon out there? i dare you.
@newrealization12 I couldn't agree more with you! I'm so glad to find someone with my same opinion about this... fans seem to think it's easy to get a bunch of guys together and play with them for years. When I think how frustrating it might have been for these 4 guys to play for years without being as succesful as they were in the early 90's I admire them even more for touring again more than 10 years later all around the world, with Shannon always present in what they do and writing new stuff
@handrix89 I sure support them, I love this band. I know they aren't going on for the money. They are musicians itching to get back out there. No need to get bent out of shape over a band name..
@nashnwo1234 NO ONE can judge them for anything, carrying on with a band after coping with the death of one member is really, really hard (it already is complicated doing it with all of them alive!)... so don't judge them, specially if you don't know them. They lost a friend, a beloved person! IMHO these guys are GREAT artists, really good musicians, very original and creative. As a bass and guitar player I really admire their style and music, even Glen Graham's drums are great
you probably don't get what means to enjoy playing music, their music is theirs, not shannon's only :)
I thank those guys everyday for keeping such an amazing band alive, abusing drugs silenced shannon's voice, its the band job to keep the message alive... <3
@elvanirvana what does enjoying the playing of music have to do with a band name, though? i find it highly disrespectful to keep the band name when its only popular because of shannon. not to mention how fucking horrible their new singer/album is.
@nashnwo1234 meh i would still say everyone else in the band was very talented and were slightly different in styles then from the other grunge artists, just my opinion , but i definetly agree with you that shannon was the core.
@10NOsaints that's not truly correct, the release of ''No Rain'' was heard among the grunge scene and somehow everyone connected it to grunge when in reality the Genres of music they played is: Alternative rock, folk rock, neo-psychedelia, psychedelic rock.... Grunges Stylistic origins: Alternative rock, hardcore punk, heavy metal, indie rock ...... in conclusion blind melon was a Kick Fucking Ass modern 90's American rock band with a pinch of psychedelic 60's mixed in with it. \m/
Bon Scott, Kurt Cobain, Layne Staley, Jimi Hendrix... the list is endless. Legendary artists who were lost too early in life, but still had a massive impact on the lives of many. For me, the biggest loss will always be Shannon Hoon. His vision, lyrics and feel were completely original and move me in ways that no other artist can. The best- RIP Shannon.
im only 25 years old so i wasnt around in their hayday, but i do have fond memories of my mothers boyfriend playing this album in his dirty work truck while we on our way to go fishing. this album is incrdeible!!
@otishaywater im 23 and im into them, nirvana, oasis, pearl jam.. those bands who had their time in the early 90s when we were still toddlers suckin on our thumbs. im glad ive come to know of them. and i envy those who lived in that golden age of music.
@PinchMeImDying im 16, i freaking love blind melon. my other favourites are Gn'R, The Stone Roses etc..
most bands I listen to were biggest before I was born, I mean, I was 1 year old when Shannon died, now it's certainly my generation that missed out, considering what you hear on the radio today. Atleast there are the few of us keeping the spirit alive 'ey :D
@Lukith66 it doesnt matter what age you are just enjoy the music that was created up to this point. it just so happens the 90s had amazing music but great music still comes out today. just be thankful tht youtube makes all this great music so easily accessible
I love this song. And I love this album. Makes me wonder why only no rain sold among all the beautiful tracks here. Blind Melon is gravely underrated.
NICE !!!!!!!!!! shannon hoon and melon for THE FUCKIN WIN , RIP shannon hoon , you are greatly greatly missed , and may blind melon find a new singer and LIVE ON hope they get one soon and make some new music
@willsotham ignorant comment. What would the amazing Shannon Hoon be without the incredible band Blind Melon? DUH! It's a brilliant combination not just one or the other.
@thetinkerer Shannon Hoon would be exactly what he was without Blind Melon, except he wouldve been in a different kick ass band. Ignorant comment bro, your so ignorant. ignorance.
@willsotham maybe you're right, and maybe you're wrong. either way to diss on the band is fucking stupid and it's very IGNORANT of the fact they are awesome I somehow think Shannon would agree. That band is fantastic and it's not very likely anything else would've fit. That's why it was this band and not another. You're so ignorant :D
@willsotham Shannon Hoon was THE MAN. His lyrics and mind were incredible, but Blind melon were the ultimate Jam band- tight as anything and had their own groove that no other outfit could replicate. Shannon= always number 1 for me.
