Hi, I have a GE Hotpoint fridge model#HSS25IFMC WW. and I had Niagara falls coming from the ice maker this morning! Unscrewed the water filter to stop the water (no shut off valve on the water line). Do you think replacing this part would fix my issue? Thanks, great video by the way!
@jizay76 There are a few reasons why icemakers would leak. One reason could be because the icemaker stopped turning because the gears in the icemaker are broken. Take the cover off the front and you should be able to look at the gears. Also check the fill tube, if it’s blocked it would cause a leak. Another reason icemakers leak is from the water coming in too fast overflowing the ice mold. But this probably wouldn’t cause a Niagara Falls.
@jizay76 And your ice maker will leak if the water valve sticks after the icemaker goes out of the fill cycle. Check these few spots I mentioned and if you discover you need a new water valve the one in this video will fit your fridge model. Let us know if you have any more questions!
@partselect Thanks! The water fill tube isn't clogged, I can see it filling the ice tray. The system seemed to be working properly. I installed a new water filter the night before and turned on the ice maker...It seemed to work fine, until I noticed a frozen trail of ice coming down the ice chute out the door, then I started getting a log jam at the ice door when trying to get ice. When I pulled the Ice tray to dump it I put the tray back in and that's when it started over flowing.
I just bought my house and when I moved in, I noticed that water was building up in the bottom of the fridge. Using my brain and some trial and error, I found that the water was forming when I used my water dispenser on the door. When the lever was pressed on the door and the refrigerator door was open, water was witnessed running down the back of the refrigerator. It looked like it was coming from the water tank assembly. Can you direct me to a video that might help me see how to check it?
@vwdeuce01 First of all, what is the model # of your fridge? If you can give me that I can probably provide you with some more specific information. Second, have you emptied the drip tray below your fridge? The amount of water that accumulates there is typically very small and evaporates on its own. Occasionally though, it will fill up and that may be what is causing the water on your floor.
It sounds like you might be having an issue with your water inlet valve. Once I have you model number I can direct you to the part you'll need and some more information to help you diagnose. If you'd rather try to figure it out on your own, head over to PartSelect . com and input your model number. I hope this is all helpful, if you need more assistance just let me know!
@LTF85199 What is the model number of your fridge? We may already have a video that will help, or at least some directions on how to repair your issue. If you want to give me your model number, I can point you in the right direction. Or you can visit the Virtual Repairman on the PartSelect . com website and search your model # for specific instructions. Let me know how it goes!
@LTF85199 Excellent video of the repair. Our GE refrigerator has had a problem with the ice maker feed line twice in the 12 years we have had the unit. The solution each time was to turn off the refrig, disconnect the water lines at the entry point to the dual valve and wait 30-45 minutes. Then reconnect everything and it worked. Problem - ice forms in the narrow tube at the point of entry to the icemaker. If I have need the part I would use your video as a guide. Thanks.
@brutusdog Happy to hear that you enjoyed the video and thanks for the repair advice! We love to see DIYers offering their knowledge and experience to others!
Good video. Too bad this part is the supersede part number for my GE fridge. My part is marked WR57x92 and there are none to be had. All vendors list the same part as the video. My water line in is like a brass garden hose fitting, so I still have no ice or cold water. Oh yeah this part came ina GE bag is marked "made in China"
@EMemRefugee The part in this video is not the new version of WR57x92. The part WR57x92 actually has been replaced by GE with part WR57X10051. We do have this new version of your part available on our site (PS901314) and it should work the same as WR57x92.
My original value has a brass right angle 1/4" pipe -to -1/4" flare fitting.
Got the supersede part for the old WR57x92; WR57X10051.
The water line is now connected and no leaks. So if your old valve used the flare fitting just cut off the flared end & replace w/ a ferrule & compression fitting.

@EMemRefugee Just called GE parts. Parts transferred the call to the GE "Answer Center" they said they this is a repair & do not have repair info, but would be happy to send a service tech. haha. Looks like a ferrule compression fitting might be all I need?
@EMemRefugee If you're not sure if you need a new double water valve, I would suggest checking out our Virtual Repairman (I just added the link to the description of this video). Just enter in your appliance's model number and select the symptom you're experiencing. This tool can help you figure out what part will fix your appliance.
BTW, I get 120volts at the connectors, when activated, and I do hear the solenoids humming. Good water flow when I disconnect the water inlet tube, coming from the filter. Maybe something else internal to the valve that could cause both outlets to malfunction. In any event, I did order a new valve. Hopefully your tip will solve it. Thanks again.
@raster43 Thanks! I've never seen a dual valve where both sections have failed. What's likely to blame is the neutral/common wire. This will be the white wire and it's most likely broken or gone faulty. I would start by checking there as that is usually the culprit.
Thanks for the video. helped me out a lot.

@partselect The fridge came with the house which we purchased about a month ago...Now I know why the ice make was turned off!

@jizay76 Yea that's unfortunate to find stuff like that out after you make the purchase!

New valve solved the problem. Although rare, appaently both sections can fail at the same time.
