  • i also have a briard! shes 10 and aging fast. i wonder if she would like herding...

  • There are a few things to check first. What kind of shape is she in? What type of herding is available near you (some are more ddemanding than others - doubt she's much like a border collie? How assertive is she and also how biddable? Is she interested in sheeep and herding (there may be some instinct testing you could try first

  • How do you tell if they have the instinct? Shaggy

  • In the beginning you want them to be interested in the sheep and not ignoring them. This can range from some chasing that the evaluators will control and stop when necessary

  • Jez Ki would have killed them all within 10 mins.. love to get him that well trained... Shaggy

  • If they have the instinct it's time patience and training - if not maybe another activity

  • Several organizations (AKC, AHBA, the foreign kennel clubs etc( have a simple exposure to sheep once the dog is around a year old to see if the dog can sustain interest and be controllable with stock. It usually is conducted with a more experienced handler and judge/evalutor with some experience
