Gurudutt has been considered to have taught Hindi cinema how to film songs. The songs in his films have always carried the story forward, and people could not leave the theatre during the songs as was the tradition then. I believe his 'Waqt ne kiya' is absolutely the best filmed song ever, in Hindi Cinema. The way Waheeda Rehman moves out of the harsh light into darkness and then into normal light, is a scene that gives me goosebumbps every time I see it.
im white british, and i think this song is brilliant it gives me goosepumps when i listenn to it, its so emotional, i saw the film years ago on c4 its truly a classic, in the same vein as pakeezah.
I agree wholeheartedly. One of the other songs from this movie had me in floods of tears too Waqt ne kiya. Pakeezah similarly great. Looking forward to watching Chaudvin Ka Chand soon.
what a personality, what a tribute to a Great Showman of Indian Cinema, well Raj Kapoor was a Legend but Guru Dutt Saaheb is a LEGEND forever. May his soul rest in peace. Jai Hind
Guru Dutt was just phenomenal. We can get a feeling of his sensitivity just by looking at the way he creatively captured the world around us in a poetic manner.
And this song is one of my all time favorites. Mohammad Rafi, Kaifi Azmi and S.D. Burman - at their best. It's sad we can not get such great songs in today's bollywood corrupted by the greed of money. Thanks Rudina for uploading this song.
"A true mirror to the ways of the world-Dekhi jamaane ki yaari, bichde sabhi baari, baari, distilled into one sentence! Kudos!"
This is one of my favorite movies. The way this song goes from revealing slow sad start, to accelerate pace reflecting fame, forune, glory and fans, back to tragic ending of life when he is sans friends, family, fans, fortune and finances. This Classic was aBox Office Flop. I thought I was the only one who liked it, until now when I found you folks.
amazing :D

Only a singer of the caliber of Rafi saab alone could have carried this song. And there is none of his caliber.

Please don't compare Pakeeza and Kaghaz ke phool.
Kaghaz ke phool was, is and will always remain one.
Pakeeza was an OK film, but in the the category of Kaghaz ke phool.

This clip alone, which covers only the first ten minutes of the film, is enough to show us the greatness of Guru Dutt. He was a true genius.

Im a true admirer of Guru Dutt, not only his films but of the person he was and how he thought and felt so deeply in the despairing world around him.
