  • you know, i was always a little iffy on jfk, but when I saw this I did gain a bit of respect for him. No president would dare speak like this now, good for jfk

  • A Catholic committing a adultery speaking to Mormons, How quaint.

  • Wow! I didn't know President Kennedy had given a speech at the Mormon Tabernacle. He was a great speaker and a great leader. Imperfect, like all of us, but a great person none the less.

  • I'm sorry I did not just read that you think Mormons are respected around the world, noone likes momos

  • I see the church didn't tell him about the members who tried to flee the church were murdered ! yes Murdered !!!

  • Colton Salazar married Vanessa Dunn in the Salt Lake Temple on June 20, 2008.

  • How touching, thank you!!!!

  • Why the heck was I never told about this speech in Sunday School? I am not only upset, but I am astonished and proud that Kennedy spoke at the Tabernacle. I believe JFK was the only Democratic presidental nominee that Utahns voted for as a majority. Not even Obama got the majority of votes during the 08' election and people are comparing him to this legend? bah... R.I.P. JFK, you will never be forgotten.

  • @mormontauren

I was very pleasantly surprised when I discovered this speech, bc I had similarly never heard about it.

  • YoungApologetics,

Never worry! When I was younger, I walked into the Evangelical church and, after talking to the pastor there, learned that if I signed a card that said I gave my life to Jesus, I would be saved from that day forward and could never fall from that salvation. I signed, so I'm saved no matter what I do -- whether I become a murderer, serial rapist, or even a MORMON!!!

It's all of the Old Testament prophets that you need to worry about going to hell. They never signed.

  • Cajunj2,

Im sorry that the pastor to whom you spoke was so far removed from the Word of God. What he told you was in no way Biblical, there are no cars to be signed! However you and only you can truly know if you have been saved. Examin yourself with Scripture. John 3:3 is a good place to start. Oh and by the way there is not such thing as a carnal Christian. So a man claiming to be christian and doing those evil things is obviously a lier..

  • I agree to the fact that only I can know where my relationship stands with God. Ultimately, salvation is a personal experience. We all accept or reject God personally. You cannot say, from the outside, that I've accepted or rejected Jesus Christ; only I can say this.

This is one of the reasons why I don't understand the vitriol with which some evangelicals attack the church.

Also, many evangelicals teach the above doctrine, mostly because they misinterpret some of the writings of Paul.

  • @cajunj2

Well said. Couldn't agree with you more.

  • This was one of the most beloved Presidents in the History of this Country. He stood for Truth,Courage, and Faith. His comments about us Latter-day Saints are inspiring and warm my American Heart. I love hearing his voice, it runs through my heart and makes me want to stand and fight for what this country used to be all about. Now we live in a me, me, me generation. Lord please Revive this Country and let us rekindle the fire for what is right and just, not what makes us richer,IN Jesusname amen

  • The Mormon church was a power even in JFK's day as you will hear in this video. However JFK was a CATHOLIC! If he loved the mormon faith he would have been a mormom! Instead he enjoyed the money they put into our economy.. JFK is in no way a defence for mormonism!

  • This is in no way a defense for Mormon doctrine.

However, the fact that the President of the USA felt a need to visit the leadership and membership of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints shows how integral we were to American society even way back in 1963.

If the President were to visit your Church headquarters and visit with its leaders, I'm sure you would feel just as proud.

Members of the LDS Church will continue to contribute in innumerable ways to American progress.

  • just because you blind eyes can't see what John f Kennedy saw doesn't mean you have the right to make accusations.

  • I have always wondered, and maybe you can answer this for me youngapologetics, is your life really so empty that you have to spend time cruising around on youtube just to make unflattering comments about another church and to try to undercut any positive recognition they receive?

  • My aim is not o undercut the people of your faith, however I do aim to correct doctrine and misunderstandings. As I said before JFK is in no way a defence for the LDS. I will aknowledge myself that the Mormons do contribute greatly to this country, but to Gods kingdom ..not at all!

  • YoungApologetics,

If you will notice, I am not the one on a page containing a video of a speech by an American president at an Evangelical church, "correcting" the beliefs of that church. I have very many doctrinal disagreements with the Evangelicals, especially since I believe that most of what they teach about Jesus Christ directly contradicts the accounts I read of him in the New Testament. However, I am content to leave it alone and practice my own religion. Can you do likewise?

  • can I do likewise? Practice my own faith? Well my friend that is exactly what I am doin. You see Im not making money and I don't get joy out of having to tell people that they are following false teachings provided by a false prophet, when I do this it angers them and makes my message distasteful. However I love all people including the Mormons, therefor I have surrendered my life in the service of helping them. Its hard to understand I know, but it is my faith..

  • I guess I could tell you that you're following false teachings provided by false pastors with no authority from God to preach, but I prefer to just practice my religion, worship the Jesus Christ of the New Testament, and thank you for your "love" towards me.

  • well to not extend your hand for those who you believe to be on a pathway for damnation would be anti-christian not to mention immoral on every level. To ignore your brothers and sisters and allow their fate to be lost due to their blindness and your unwillingness to help them ..well that puts you about as far away from scripture as one can get..

    God Bless!

  • @YoungApologetics maybe if you spent more time bearing your testimony of your own faith instead of ripping other people's beliefs to shreds, you would have more success in converting people to your religion. Churches who try to prove other religions wrong to make their own look more right have never interested me. The spirit of the lord testifies in quiet settings, not argumentative ones. Mormon's proclaim what they believe, they do not tell others what NOT to believe.

  • @DesertGoddess81

The prime objective in your argument is without a doubt empty! allow me to quote a few of your words " Mormon's proclaim what they believe, they do not tell others what NOT to believe." NOW if this statement were true I would delete my youtube acoounts today. However I will give you one word that show just how flaud ur understanding of the LDS church is! and my rebutal ...MISSIONARIES! speak with them then come talk to me

  • You are missing the point. It is not your beliefs but your approach. It's not what you say it is how you say it. Fire and brimstone don't interest me. Everything is so dark and negative. Why the need to "save"? Christ is the only one who can save someone. Sharing what you believe is the way to bring people to Christ. Shouting down someone's beliefs does nothing to help the cause. LDS believe in Christ. Everyone interprets the bible in their own way. Who's way is more correct? Yours I take it?

  • @DesertGoddess81 Exodus 21:20-21 "AND IF A MAN BEATS HIS MALE OR FEMALE SERVANT WITH A ROD, SO THAT HE DIES UNDER HIS HAND, HE SHALL SURLEY BE PUNISHED. nOTWITHSTANDING, IF HE REMAINS ALIVE A DAY OR TWO, HE SHALL NOT BE PUNISHED; FOR HE IS HIS PROPERTY."...... I have a hard time believing the all knowing, loving god wrote that verse. sorry i tried to have faith in the bible but there are hundreds of religious books that people believe in and i view them as a control mechinism.

  • @ha38bb1 To me that sounds like a new age version of the bible. Mormons use the Kind James version, and believe in the Bible as long as it is translated correctly. Also, God did not write the bible, his Servants (prophets did). You also need to know that times where very different back then, as were customs and laws. Things have been updated, new laws introduced. When Christ introduced the sacrament, it took the place of burnt offerings (sacrifices).

  • When he returned, he had a redshirt year and said he really needed the extended time to get back into shape after his mission.

Nevertheless, he said the mission was "worth it. I wouldn't trade it for anything."

He married Vanessa Dunn in the Salt Lake Temple on June 20, 2008, and they now team-teach a Primary class in the Lafayette 1st Ward, Lafayette Indiana Stake.

  • DesertGoddess81: Good point, but waisted on the Mormon haters and baiters as you can see by YoungApologetics silly and illogical response. We are to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ with boldness and without apology. When we do this we are doing as our Father in Heaven desires. President Young once said when approached by members in SLC concerned about the growing anti movement there told them "that's is alright, every time they kick us it is forward".

  • @YoungApologetics YOU'RE MENTALLY ILL :)

  • @YoungApologetics Just because he (JFK) didn't join Mormonism doesn't mean he didn't love the religion. And how the majority of the followers of LDS doctrine improve their life in all aspects. Also, he may have been fearful to change his religion due to family concern or some other reason far from not "loving" Mormonism.

  • I feel alive when this man speaks.

  • Where the hell is JFK now? Barack Obama is a progressive. AKA he doesn't talk about faith. There are those who talk about it to get votes and those who don't to get votes. Here's an idea - let's hear a guy tell the truth. JFK was that guy...and what the hell? He was competent. And he didn't care about Liberalism or Conservatism. He was a leader. He wasn't a Democrat or Republican president. He was the American President. He had the balls to try to end the Vietnam War and he died for it.

  • Nothing progressive about the Modern Liberals. Want little more than to keep their constituents (and the USA) on the plantation. Very indicative of their KKK and slave-owning roots -- REgressive to a "t." The 21st century Dems are the opposite of the principles JFK espoused: "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country." would get him kicked to the curb, hard, today.

  • Notice how this speech could've been given to any contingent with a little mending of a few context specific sentences. Hahaha so, for Mormons to be so proud of what JFK "said" about them...it's all generic. This speech is about America, not Mormonism.

  • How are statistics generic

  • Wow what a Great Speach by a Great Man , Its hard to believe that only 2 months after this GREAT SPEACH he was assasinated by a Nut Case !!

  • @wkayan1969 maybe killed by a nut case, but in the end the orders were sent from the very top elite. JFK's speechs are amazing. espically the JFK NWO speech.

  • evidently we're too busy clinging to our guns and religion

    wait...what?

  • rofl. Obama wont talk like this to the us mormons. our values and morals are complete opposite of his. so McCain 08

  • John f.Kennedy showed that we can grow as one nation and people that with faith and with real compassion we can insure better tomorrows not just for the weathy of us but the hole of us. working together is a true and noble act we may not agree with each other all the time but let us stand as one people and not 2 partys thats what the past should teach the present. Obama 08!

  • "the control of water is the secret to the development of the west"

somehow we have gotten around that, but for how much longer I am not sure.

  • I would love to see Obama give this type of speech to the Mormons!
