  • this is great,, but no-one can top the haunting version by karen dalton ,,truely amazing vocal style..

  • The usual high standard from Bert,Karen Dalton classic!

  • @ALfaDuB101 Karen Dalton didn't write this, Katie Cruel is a traditional American folksong, likely of Scottish origin. The American version of the song is said to date to the Revolutionary War period.

  • @kap66 yeah your right what i should have have said is this is daltons version of a traditional folk song like blackwaterside is bert jansch's version of a traditional folk song.

  • DL the audio from this clip at speedyconversion doht cohm.

  • I just saw Bert in Pittsburgh tonight. At one point he remarked that the audience was very quiet, and after a pause someone in the audience said "we're just spellbound". Spellbinding is a very appropriate way of describing Bert's performance.

  • There is only one Bert! Legend!

  • you have a very good video, it´s even better for the fact that bert doesn´t sing this song himself on the album...you should PUT HIS NAME ON THE TITLE, because it is very hard to find this video and more people should see it!!

  • Hi BRS, thanks for that, ye someone else said that before, i`m not a great user of youtube but i`ll see if i can change it to having his name. also have him playing the auld triangle from the same evening so i wil see if i can fish that out aswell. All the best mate. Richrd

  • just discovered this beautiful video of yours!..maybe you could add some tags to the video..I'm sure a lot of people would enjoy this very much who still have not!

  • hi, thats very kind of you, how do i add tags?

    thanks again for comment

  • He is one of my favourites without a doubt and a lovely man to talk to, that gig was in a little village hall on the isle of Easdale in western Scotland with only a few there it was really a magical night and i`ll never forget it, thanks for the comment, all the best, Richard

  • I saw him a couple of years ago in Brooklyn, magical gig, packed out with people of all ages and races. Bert has a decent number of black fans in New York! Everyone wanted to speak to him after the gig, he's so quiet and modest when you speak to him though. I've tabbed a fair amount of his work which is available on the net and I asked him if he minded and he just shook his head. Still undecided on his reaction, I think he's too polite to say even if he did mind!

  • Hi, don`t want to sound stereotypicaly ignorant but am suprised about black fan base,,, superb!! Ye i talked to him after the gig aswell and as you say he was very modest. I asked him why he didnt play needle of death anymore and he told me he had never liked the song which was dissapointing on one hand but hey he`s human!! I felt from his answer that i had taken something personal away from the night that i will always remember. Happy new year to American fans of Bert.

  • Well to be honest I had imagined Bert's fan base to be pretty much white people past a certain age too. But at that gig there were black, Asian, Hispanic fans lining up to say hello to him, with records to sign etc. I actually bumped into him and his partner(wife?) on Broadway in the East Village the night before the gig, couldn't believe my luck, thought "hang on, that's Jansch!" and indeed it was he. Had just been to pick up my tickets and had them in my hand! What are the chances?

  • He he, i think thats what they call syncronicity my friend, i mean what are the chances? I bumped into David Carradine many years ago in the south of France. As an avid Kung Fu enthusiast it was only his autographed passport that convinced my girl friend and he actually stared at me in the crowd beforehand. He signed my passport with a pentagram and a yin and yang the same way as I. Anyway its all good stuff for the memories eh. Good health and many more chance meatings for 2010. Richard

  • @richardd2063 david carradine?mm was he tripping???

  • Thanks for posting this.Jansch has to be one of the greatest ever folk guitarists.
