Er, quick question. I've enjoyed your videos and have been re-listening to them as I paint, but one thing stuck out to me here--about Bella's essay and that we don't get to see its contents. You imply that it's a bad thing. Well, it seems that including her essay in the text when it has absolutely no value to the story would be terrible writing. I don't see how just mentioning it is bad beyond the idea that Meyer is trying to stick feminism onto her Sue.
your right, meyer tried too hard to make bella look like a strong women when she is nothing at all, i would hate having a girlfriend like that, she doesn't deserve all the things she gained really. Yet in the end like you said she turned from a princess who got everything easily without hardship and the strongest bodyguards to a queen and the goddess of the story...pathetic book.....pathetic book...

@Twilightswan911 I happen to be rather biased against people who say things I deem "stupid." In short if someone says something lacking in logic, I deem them stupid and nothing more. Kind've like a racist who thinks all in a race are a certain way. And while you may not have said anything concerning feminism, the fact that you're a girl who tried to excuse Bella's stupidity made me think you didn't like the idea of girls being able to handle themselves.
Love the hardo. Have you tried to straghten it yet?
I'm not so much as a feminist in saying stuff like "Girls are better than boys" or stuff like that, but I believe that a woman's pride and worth is one of the most important things a woman has.
Bella is a disgrace to all women. She just lets herself get pushed around and expects things to come to her without work, college, education, etc. THIS IS NOT WHAT SUSAN B. ANTHONY HAD IN MIND ON EQUALITY!!!

I really dont mean to be mean when I say this but I really think you are reading way too deep into the story.
YES! I know, I get the hidden meaning and interpretations behind the book but I really dont think that Meyer meant it like that. She's not as cynical as you are making her out to be.
One complaint-I think the credit goes to Alice on saving everyone. She did afterall do all the work of finding whats his name. Bella only delayed the fight a little while.
So, wait... SMeyer didn't WANT her books to have hidden meanings and be interpreted? :|
There goes the theory of Twilight actually having any depth. *eyeroll*
How do YOU know if that's not what SMeyer wants? That she's "not as cynical" as we think she is? Do YOU know her on a personal level?
Also, we're not "making her out to be" anything. This is what we see from her. From interviews, from articles..etc. We're not claiming to know her personally, but from what we know, this IS her character.
I think we all know there wasnt much depth in Twilight to begin with. Mary Sue characters, horrible writing, cliche plot...you catch my drift. Thats my point, there was never any DEPTH to the story to start with!
Your point contradicted itself. If you claim to have made your opinion about her without personally knowing her then why cant I?
Heres my logic, for a woman to write a book without thinking anyone was ever going to read it, why would she put hidden messages in the text?
If she didn't think anyone was going to read it, why did she publish it? for any text that is truly private, publishing is simply not an emotional option, therefore on some scale she must have planned to at least show her work if not publish.
She has said in countless interviews that she "never intended for anyone else to read it." Now I cant validate that in any way because I'm, simply stated, not her but notevery every book out there has a point or a moral. If her moral was anything, in her eyes of a naive author, it would be something as stupid and cliche as 'love is inseperable' or 'love always conquers.'
Sure, parts in the book may show some sexist tendencies but so does most every other book. Those are unintential I think.
Actions speak louder then words for the most part. She did publish, she showed her sister right off even though she "never intended for /anyone/ else to read it:.
If the sexist parts of the book were not intentional that is actually almost worse. It means that these things are actually how the Meyer feels about how relationships should work.
You start writing a book and you'll see how it feels to try and keep it all to yourself. You have to let the anxiety out somewhere. I should know, I'm writing a book. Not even about vampires so if thats where you were going, its a dead end.
Maybe thats how she only thinks a relationship between a human and a vampire would work. Have you read the Host? Tell me some criticism on that one, just curious if the same theme runs through both prints.
If she write it 'for herself' and 'didn't intend ti show it to anyone else' then she wasn't 'writing a book'.
I keep a dream journal. I really don't feel to need to share it.
You can't use 'she never intend to show anyone' as some kind of weird defense if you are going to contradict yourself with 'of course she showed someone'. >_o;;;
She's said again and again that Edward/Bella is an 'Ideal relationship.' That makes me think she thinks it is.
Read between the lines a little and stop taking everything so seriously. When she says "I never meant for anyone to read this," she obviously was talking about the millions of fans obsessed over the story not her own sister.
Never heard her say "ideal relationship" but then again, i dont obsess over every interview she does and I cant say that shes hasnt said that.
If its sexist, why is Jane so powerfull? Why is Alice so importantly powerful?
Why is Bella the one who saves everyone in theend?
I would really like it if maybe you actually tried to support the 'points' you've made in this discussion.
"I don't obsess over every interview she does" is not a defense. If you want to argue a point you know nothing about go ahead, but it likely won't go well >_o;;;
Alice is not 'importantly powerful'. Her power is inconsistent compared to the male meyerpires. It's ineffective in anything to do with werewolves yet Edward can read their minds.
I am so glad you finally got YAB 20 out. When I found your vids, I watched them all in one night. YAB hits the nail on its head straight on, full force. Thanks for doing all the work it took to makes this series. I twuly luv it. ;)
MUCH easier, yes. All I have to do is wash it. Sometimes I don't even need to brush it and it looks fine! That's a far cry from the five to ten minutes I was spending on brushing it every morning.
I honestly can't remember a single instance in the books where Bella overcame an obsticle of any kind. When an obsticle was put in front of her, it was magically solved -eyeroll-
I think that the feminism and the machism ( i don't know how to say it in english xD but i think you get the point) are both stupid. You are not better than anyone just by having a penus or a vagina, we all must have the same rights.
By the way, you look better with your new haircut and congratultions for another great video.
I noticed the misogyny in Twilight even back when I was a fan - every so often I'd get the feeling that many things that happened in the first book alone were just excuses for him to jump in and rescue her.
I have to agree fully with this video. When I read Twilight all those years ago, I could see what Smeyer was trying to do giving the illusion of Bella as a "strong and independent" woman (God it even hurts to type that), but to me it failed miserably. To be a strong woman, it doesn't mean you need to know how to fight necessarily, but to speak your mind and stick to what you preach; not keel over like a lame dog bending to your boyfriend's will.
Well, I think a strong woman comes from self-confidence to be honest. Having her own will, her own goals, her own ambitions, and her own personality. Women who want nothing more out of life than to be a mother or a wife can have this same strength as women who want a career. These days, however, it's rare to find any women with self-confidence as well as dreams and ambitions. And if they do have them, they quickly discard them for something new that comes along (usually a boyfriend).
I disagree with the 'rare' comment though; I will admit amongst perhaps my own age-group it can be more difficult to locate females who aren't swayed by the group-gain of a 'boyfriend' but it's not rare.
Merely difficult, because having own goals goes against the social grain (at least for girls) and that takes a /immense/ amount of either confidence, self-belief or stubbornness.
It's tired but this point but by comparing Bella to Buffy you can see how weak a character Bella really is. Buffy actually is special since she is the Slayer and she fights vampires every night while trying to also live a normal life and her relationship with a vampire ends badly because he realises there is no way they could be together happily. In conclusion, Bella sucks :P
Interesting haircut... And... Well, to be honest I'm sick of the "feminist" stuff these days. I'm all for equality... But that's not really what it is. If it was, women would be marching in the streets in order to eliminate their exemption from the draft.
But, I digress. Yet another fantastic video, nailed it quite well.
One question though, are you reading from your computer screen? It seems like you don't read much before having to scroll down and it gets choppy because of it.
Well, I commented on it, because it seems like you were scrolling every two or three sentences. (I assume each pause you had, that wasn't the end of a sentence was you having to scroll, as well as each click of the mouse). I was merely going to suggest you put what you wrote into a format where you could read more of it without having to scroll as much.
I find a lot feminists are chauvinists themselves, so I agree. Not all feminists by any means. I know several feminists (myself included) who want women to be drafted.
Anyway, back to shmeilia rockie: great video (but they always are) and the haircut is cool.
Plenty of them ARE chauvinists themselves. At least, enough to make you wonder what they even stand for anymore. Gone are the days when being a feminist was a positive thing. Now you have stuff like, "all sex is rape" and "women CANNOT be happy simply raising children! women have to work to be better than MEN!"
It's all pretty scary. Especially when most men these days aren't saying something similar. Like, "I have to be better than WOMEN!" They grow out of that phase as children.
Feminism was started as a way to get equal rights for women. From there it became something akin to a "sisterhood". Modern day feminism is about giving women the confidence to do the things they want to do with their lives.
But, if you would like a more in-depth analysis of it and perhaps to debate it, you can always PM me. The 500 character limit hardly lets me get what I want to say across to people. Especially when it's something as complex as feminism.
On a note, if you read the psychological book 'he'll be all right' apparently most adolescent males feel inferior intellectually to females. Sigh. Not fair on them is it?
Ah you're lucky then, I suffer classic feelings of inferiority (albeit with efforts to work with it).
Maybe the pool of data the book was based off is a different culture of males to yours, very possible and no doubt it can't state each individual's views either. Plus, not everybody says when they feel out of their depth.
Indeed, no reason at all, but there are some who make that harder to believe..I guess the point of that statement is 'HYPER SUPER' feminists have to stop picking on the Y.
I have a serious question: How do you manage to read ALL the twilight books? The first one I read once. I tried a second time but wanted to punch Bella too much. But, because I heard she tries suicide in New Moon, I tried reading it. NOT EVEN THAT, listening to the AUDIOBOOK. I couldn't get past her sobbing on the woods ground. How do you stomach it?
Yeah god forbid she even be forced into walking like the rest of the world. Bella and the rest of the vapid stone people or too out of touch with the real world. There is no meaning in any of it. Great video and good title.
And I know this is irrelevant and I'm not the first to say it, but your hair looks really cute! It suits your face very well.
do you find it odd that the meetings with the volturi are timed and paced so that meyers own satisfaction of the meyerpires wellbeing is fulfilled? in reality, bella wouldve died in like 2 secs upon meeting the volturi because the so called rules that meyer presented were broken. and theres also the question of how people struggle for what they value and in this case, it surely doesnt follow up. great job once again!
tsk tsk i think thats what bothers me the most in this series because every flaw in meyer's writing can somehow connect with her poorly written earth logic. not even that, but she creates her own reality which would appear smart but she breaks her own rules so it makes no sense.
Volturi Poultry! *snicker* And not only do they get to enjoy their sparkling pink frosted cake, they suffer no adverse side effects from gorging themselves on fat and sugar. I mean geez, hasn't the government found out about all their spending and no one turned an eye toward all those bank accounts?
I hate Twilight. Bella and Edward get a perfect life without trying. It's like "Edward and Bella it must be so hard to be in "forbidden" love (even though it isn't) so I'll make your lives perfect because of all the trouble you guys went through to live."
you make me laugh. this was a good analysis and i agreed with you a lot.

When I read Twilight all those years ago, I could see what Smeyer was trying to do giving the illusion of Bella as a "strong and independent" woman (God it even hurts to type that), but to me it failed miserably. To be a strong woman, it doesn't mean you need to know how to fight necessarily, but to speak your mind and stick to what you preach; not keel over like a lame dog bending to your boyfriend's will.
cowtossing 2 years ago
Well, I think a strong woman comes from self-confidence to be honest. Having her own will, her own goals, her own ambitions, and her own personality. Women who want nothing more out of life than to be a mother or a wife can have this same strength as women who want a career. These days, however, it's rare to find any women with self-confidence as well as dreams and ambitions. And if they do have them, they quickly discard them for something new that comes along (usually a boyfriend).
XxTaiMTxX 2 years ago

Ps. Like the new hair ^^

I concur, but compairing Bella to a badass like Buffy is hardly fair. Like shooting fish in a barrel, really.
Thankee. I am quite happy with it.

XxTaiMTxX 2 years ago
Yes, I am -__- I'm not going to print these things off and try to read them. It'd be a book!
But I agree with you on the feminism thing.
shmeiliarockie 2 years ago
Well, I commented on it, because it seems like you were scrolling every two or three sentences. (I assume each pause you had, that wasn't the end of a sentence was you having to scroll, as well as each click of the mouse). I was merely going to suggest you put what you wrote into a format where you could read more of it without having to scroll as much.
Something like Wordpad, perhaps?

I find a lot feminists are chauvinists themselves, so I agree. Not all feminists by any means. I know several feminists (myself included) who want women to be drafted.
Anyway, back to shmeilia rockie: great video (but they always are) and the haircut is cool.
TubbyCatProductions 2 years ago
Plenty of them ARE chauvinists themselves. At least, enough to make you wonder what they even stand for anymore. Gone are the days when being a feminist was a positive thing. Now you have stuff like, "all sex is rape" and "women CANNOT be happy simply raising children! women have to work to be better than MEN!"
It's all pretty scary. Especially when most men these days aren't saying something similar. Like, "I have to be better than WOMEN!" They grow out of that phase as children.
XxTaiMTxX 2 years ago
Do you even know what modern feminism is about?
stewieismyhomeboy 2 years ago
Feminism was started as a way to get equal rights for women. From there it became something akin to a "sisterhood". Modern day feminism is about giving women the confidence to do the things they want to do with their lives.
But, if you would like a more in-depth analysis of it and perhaps to debate it, you can always PM me. The 500 character limit hardly lets me get what I want to say across to people. Especially when it's something as complex as feminism.

On a note, if you read the psychological book 'he'll be all right' apparently most adolescent males feel inferior intellectually to females. Sigh. Not fair on them is it?
maskotoro 2 years ago
Really? That's kind of strange. In high school, I heard a lot of "man, that girl/those girls are dumb" from males.
Myself, I never felt inferior intellectually to females... Or anyone else for that matter.
People are either dumber than you or smarter than you. No reason to feel inferior about being dumber than someone else.
Especially when you can do something about it and learn more than you already know.
XxTaiMTxX 2 years ago
Ah you're lucky then, I suffer classic feelings of inferiority (albeit with efforts to work with it).
Maybe the pool of data the book was based off is a different culture of males to yours, very possible and no doubt it can't state each individual's views either. Plus, not everybody says when they feel out of their depth.
Indeed, no reason at all, but there are some who make that harder to believe..I guess the point of that statement is 'HYPER SUPER' feminists have to stop picking on the Y.
maskotoro 2 years ago
I don't feel "inferior" per sé. But sometimes in a relationship, I feel "inadequate". And I don't mean in the sexual sense either.
It's that feeling of "I'm not good enough for her". And that only compounds when she talks about her ex boyfriend or what-have-you.
So, I guess you could say I've felt inferior to other males before.
And you also have to take into account that we are not all created equal and some people are inferior to others.

I prefer long hair, but it's not a bad look. ;)
Renesmee should become a villain and take advantage of the thoughtless adoration of all the characters if Meyer ever continues the series.
LOL, Raichu is back!

I do believe the lady doth protest too much... Isn't that what Bella's doing? Yeah, Shakespeare nailed it...
AsajjVentress 2 years ago
I have a serious question: How do you manage to read ALL the twilight books? The first one I read once. I tried a second time but wanted to punch Bella too much. But, because I heard she tries suicide in New Moon, I tried reading it. NOT EVEN THAT, listening to the AUDIOBOOK. I couldn't get past her sobbing on the woods ground. How do you stomach it?
Preosmo 2 years ago
An audiobook? How frightening must that be?
Nekorin 2 years ago
I think I must just be masochistic. It took me quite a long while to get through New Moon and Breaking Fail, while I STILL haven't finished Eclipse.

kidflashII 2 years ago
Yeah god forbid she even be forced into walking like the rest of the world. Bella and the rest of the vapid stone people or too out of touch with the real world. There is no meaning in any of it. Great video and good title.
And I know this is irrelevant and I'm not the first to say it, but your hair looks really cute! It suits your face very well.

Pwnage. >:D
Your haircut fits you. Cute, yet says, "I'm independent, bish!" :D

You look so cute to with your haircut, btw.
I love how you do not only call out the obvious faults, but the things we would never think to criticize.
Flame on!

do you find it odd that the meetings with the volturi are timed and paced so that meyers own satisfaction of the meyerpires wellbeing is fulfilled? in reality, bella wouldve died in like 2 secs upon meeting the volturi because the so called rules that meyer presented were broken. and theres also the question of how people struggle for what they value and in this case, it surely doesnt follow up. great job once again!
xoxstace13xox 2 years ago 5
Yes, but Earth Logic doesn't apply to Suethors like Meyer.
shmeiliarockie 2 years ago
tsk tsk i think thats what bothers me the most in this series because every flaw in meyer's writing can somehow connect with her poorly written earth logic. not even that, but she creates her own reality which would appear smart but she breaks her own rules so it makes no sense.

They are illegally forging documents, so there is that. It says as much in Breaking Fail.

She doesn't try to recall self-defense moves. She just tells Edward that she was after the fact.
During the actual event, all her internal thoughts are about how "scared" she was. <.<
ZaxfromTSdC 2 years ago
Surprise, surprise, huh? But then again, who ever expected Bella to be able to do something good on her own?
dragonfire5000 2 years ago
"I braced myself, feet apart, trying to remember through my panic what little self-defense I knew. Heel of
the hand thrust upward, hopefully breaking the nose or shoving it into the brain. Finger through the eye
socket — try to hook around and pop the eye out. And the standard knee to the groin, of course."
~Twilight PDF, page 81
That is from the paragraph right before Edward saves her.

Odd. Wasn't in the PDF I used for abridging that chapter. o_O

I love your videos. They're inspiring me to make my own, but I'm not sure what to do them on yet.
Anyway it hurts me that this girl is being held up as the ultimate femanist role model for young girls.
Also I love your new hair. Isn't short hair so much easier to deal with? I was thrilled when I cut mine.

I hate Twilight. Bella and Edward get a perfect life without trying. It's like "Edward and Bella it must be so hard to be in "forbidden" love (even though it isn't) so I'll make your lives perfect because of all the trouble you guys went through to live."
