a sad reality to michael and tht is that he has been trying to beat thriller for over 25 years. no one can. it was so succesful. the way he tied videos into the album and just simply making the album so multi format. where it would end up everywhere, like moby's play. the fact is he was the first to do it and thats why he is so succesful. actually queen and the beatles are closest bands record wise to him. just a 100 million or so. good luck on the new album. he has to release for money now

I have NEVER heard Michael say he was trying to chase or beat Thriller, so I don't know why everyone keeps saying that. Maybe that was the case with "Bad" somewhat, but with his later albums, no. That's really in everyone's mind. Also, Michael may have had cash flow problems in the past, but he is not broke and does not have to release anything for money. This is a man who owns the Beatles catalogue which is worth a billion dollars. I wish I was as broke as Michael Jackson lol.
