Lol what country you in For the old hand at the 2 and 10 oclock positions,
many countries have stopped teaching this as it is dangerous and slow
compared to co-ordinated cross-over steering or with modern cars and power steering using one hand (palming) Are both aloud here in Victoria, Australia,
Specialy in a manual vehicle
During both my test for different licences i had to do a u-turn and i was permited to palm the steering wheel or cross-over.
@dabois85 Lol, hey mate, what country do you think I'm from...my username my be a give-a-way :-) Actually in New Zealand at the moment. As for the old 2 and 10 O'clock driving postion, I was never taught that, more something I've seen in American films etc. I sure don't drive like that myself :-)
However, I was raised on a farm where we had a couple of old Bedford dump trucks, when loaded they were about 10 ton and had no power steering. Trying to steer them one handed was not even possible :-)
ummm.... this is a near-hit, not a near-miss. a near-miss is when two objects actually hit, as in they nearly missed each other, but did actually hit. if the two objects nearly hit each other, and don't actually hit, then it's a near-hit. therefore, this is a near-hit.
pilots are so bored they propogate near misses with prior acknowledgement and such similiar jockyeying as who can land the slowest or use the least fuel.
@henrox555 you have TCAS. though i wonder why it did not go off in this case. im sure i was much further from a dash-8 then this and i could hear his TCAS alarm as he was reporting to tower.
For those not in the know: at altitude, oncoming traffic will be either 1,000 feet above or below you; traffic from one side will be 500 feet below, traffic from the other will be 500 above, depending on your own heading. I saw this a lot between Vegas and SeaTac, nothing new. Maybe some real pilots here can explain traffic separation better than I can.
These are not "near misses" Airline pilots are in contact with centers and they advise of any close aircraft and their direction and altitude. A near miss is any aircraft no knowing they are close and have to take sudden action in order to avoid collision.
I JUST DONT GET WHY PPLE DISLIKE VIDEO'S LIKE THIS. THAT WAS AMAZING AND DONT WATCH IT IF YOU READ THE TITLE AND YOU DONT LIKE THE TITLE !?!?!??! :/ ! :).
TCAS does 2 things...first it yells at you that there is "Traffic" (TA)...then (if your Transponder is in mode S) it will give you a RA (resolution advisory)...telling you to Climb, Descend, Reduce Climb/Dsecent, Increase Climb/Descent and a few other advisories...until it gives you a CC...Conflict Cleared.
Title says: "NEAR MISS! 747 over-flys 737! " In the discription it says: "(it wasnt a near miss. the title was written to grab your attention) Enjoy!"
So here we have another pathetic person who thinks: "How do I get people to watch my video? Ah, I have a brilliant idea. I lie to them by using a fake title which wakes interest. Yeah, that's my way. And then people will like me for that."
Wrong, stupid. A lot of people will dislike you for that, like me. You are such a X(?-!|
@joachim2464 that was no were near a near miss air traffic control has them at different altitudes and they ask the pilots from each plane if they have eachother in sight
once again....in a thousand and first time THIS IS NOT A CLOSE CALL, or NEAR MISS OR WHATEVER all dumb and ignorant people tend to think this is....THIS IS A NORMAL SEPARATION between FLIGHT LEVELS....
IF there are problems with separation or course intersection, TCAS alerts pilots immediately...but we hear no sounds like "descend, descend now!" or smthng....
@Sunamer1 correction : you -do- hear a sound if there's a strong risk of collision. it's called the "Resolution Advisory" if both pilot are tcas equiped (and so have mode S transponder) the TCAS system will make one pilot have a "Descend Descend" and the other get a "climb climb" thus minimizing chance of collision.
@waterattack in order to give you an incentive to think better next time when you type a name for video I voted 'dislike' on video and also flag it as having misleading text. enjoy.
um that wasnt a near miss it happens everyday all the time they fly about 1000 ft apart it may look close but air traffic control do know what their doing
When I worked for UA I saw this in the cockpit on a few occasions. Another UA aircraft would flight either directly below us or above us in the opposite direction. It was very cool the first time I saw it and it never gets old:)
