Thanks for putting this up! Queerfest sounds great. The trans spectrum is complex. Being FTM sounds so straightforward, but is lacking, not one size fits all, even though I would use that label for myself. Great points.

I've been doing a lot of reading lately on how trans people are viewed by the gay community as a bit of a joke or just full time drag artists, I don't agree with this view strongly Valentino,I AM, I don't feel the need to validate ourselves to anybody or anyone. Im in agreement about hierarchy statement, the uk obsession to place people into neat little boxes according to social standing,gender,gender identity,and ethnic background drives me nuts. nice to see you doing great work: ),

@03sams Hey Samantha :) thanks for sharing your thoughts here! I agree that transgender or transsexual people are not the same as people who like to cross dress or consider themselves to be transvestite. But we do all fit under the 'trans umbrella' of those who are other than/different to expected societal 'norms'. I am happy to share that space: it is in the end up to us to explain and define our identities to others because many cis-gender people have no idea that identities like ours exist.

@TheDreamClaw Hey :) I believe San Francisco is rather unique in its outlook. Also...we are lucky in the UK to have the NHS even though the service can be inconsistent, I believe it's fairer than the profit based healthcare system that exists in the states.

@deaddogx Yeah I kind of agree in some ways , but as far as I can tell , the standard of surgery with MTF SRS in the States, with people like say Marci Bowers ,is much higher than what we can get on the NHS

( Its going to get much worse with the new ConDem system of G.P's having all the power too, I read that 80% of U.K G.P's don't agree with gender transition being paid for on the NHS ) .

Saying that ,I guess I'll have to take what I can get if I can't pay for everything myself ;(
