My big brother went to residential schooll some 45 years ago ... he came home after he was done...but he left shortly afterwrards ... never to be seen again and that was 35 years ago.. I miss you my big brother .....I honor you .. the song will make me remember you always..
Yes how dare the non natives residents try to teach desperately poor Native kids to read and write so that they could get jobs and support themselves! Obviously it didn't work and now the non Native population of Canada not only supports the Natives with billions of dollars in handouts every year....they have to pay Billions of dollars to natives as an apology because they tried to provide them with an education. Welcome to Canada the land of the never ending aboriginal guild trip.
As a white canadian..i am ashamed. But i bring this part of our history to every christian trying to "save" me...often making them speechless. I am a humanist, i belong to the human race. Peace.
now that we have survived and struggling to establish our presence, looking to the future to continue our resistance of temptation to what the white man calls, the finer things in life. We have been consuming products that keep us as domesticated servants to the government and corporations.???
The pain and the suffering will never be undone. It shall always remain as a Black stain on the parents and grandparents of the whites of today. The only good that can come from such horrible acts is change. It is a wake up call for the white population to take control of the greedy, self-centered people we allow to government over us. A Government big enough to do everything for you. Is big enough to take everything away from you. I AM SORRY FOR OUR BLINDNESS NEVER AGAIN NEVER AGAIN I AM SORRY
Niitsitapi 07: Thank you for your video. I've passed it around to many friends since you posted it, and have used it for educational purposes.
Also, a wonderful Honour Song by Redbull!
I know that my great great grandfather and at least one of his brothers were sent to the Mushhole in Brantford, but I don't yet know about his children, nor his parents, nor his wife's family, (all Six Nations Iroquois Confederacy). He became the truant officer at the Mushhole, bringing back the runaways.
and my eyes will always have tears to fall for those who can't cry, those who never got to cry, and for those yet to come, who are still going to cry...i weep, i sob, i morn, that pain is so deep, deeper than I...and so I pray, I pray for my brothers and sisters and for those who do not understand us and those who are too ignorant to even try to understand.
Anishinabe, your beautiful, inside and out. Always, No Matter what, thats just who u are.
Nya:weh/Miigwetch for this beautiful composition. As a generational survivor of the barbaric residential school system, a counsellor and a mother of grown children I will strive to see that the truth be told and justice be served. The crimes and genocidal actions of the government, church and law cannot be wiped away with pitiful, meaningless apologies.... remember the "forked tongue" saying...it lives on today!
Stay strong and pray Sisters and Brothers.. we are "Survivors" in every sense..Ona
This video fails to mention the mortality rates of the residential schools, some of which were as high as 69%. That's more than 2/3 of the students, young children, dead.
My sympathy and condelescence goes to all the people who lost their loved ones in Residential Schools, and to all the survivors of the Residental Schools, May God guide you to the journey of healing. God Bless
I recently learned what happened to the great natives of this land , in my eyes this country will always be yours, As a Social Service Worker I can under stand the many feelings and emotions that have been caused by such a terrible thing and my heart goes out to every soul who was effected by what the white government has done. I am only one white woman but I wish I could change it all, I hope to lend help to those suffering in their hearts and lives by what has been done to them.
how much pain and suffering our people went through tried to take our launguage and culture away from us and look at us today we are still strong as a nation and still belive in our cerimonies i dont think that they will ever be able to dehumanize us how ever hard they try
to my kokum marie i love you dearly, our ancestors we should be grateful we dont go through this!
My Grand mother went to a residential school and she lived there till she was 18 years old and to this day it effects her or i should say us as a family...she didn't understand love and feeling she didn't know how to react to things and she had kids and they recent her for that..so it still goes on as a cycle...my mother is not close with me due to falliure to communacate and its all due to resenditial schoools
I suffer from the same thing with failure to communicate with my mom shes a chronic alcoholic and has a 8 year old that she cannot take care of...she exposes her to hiddeous things. I dont know where to turn sometimes to deal with it all and we havent spoken in 3 years.
Its so sad, my mom went to a boarding school and still to this day id affected from it, she went through alot because she still won't tell me everything that she went through. it makes me cry when i think of it. I hate it that alot of families went through this and even the children of the parents suffered from it as well( parents who didnt love, care and know how to be true parents due to there abuse) God Bless
I honour you on such an enlightened yet very important and true video. Your words flowed like that of the calm waters, beauty in my eyes with the way they flowed with truth that many dismiss or are unaware of...We need to know the truth, and the only way is not from the media (as most wise people should know by now) but from you. The true people of our land that were robbed of what you represented as a pure, true class of it's own. I for one am sorry you still have a fight ahead but God Bless.
my dad spent his whole life in residential school until he graduated .. he said he was happy because he got the education but it was a complete nightmare that no one should ever have to go through ... r.i.p. dad
Both my parents went to Residential school, this song make me cry....even thou we went so much from the effects of these schools, I honor my parents for keeping us altogether-all 10 of us!!
Powerful message of the reality of the attempted genocide of our people. Though people say it happened a hundred years ago I feel the impact of the damage done by Mush Hole in my family. I work in a shelter where up to 90% of the Aboriginal women have suffered too from the generational impact of this horrific act. Think about this when you pass judgement on my Brothers laying out in the streets of this city (Toronto)
Don't hate us of us white people. I hate what happened, I am ashamed for what was done. If I could fix everything, I would. Many, many many of us feel your pain, and the pain of this nations native people. Both I and my sister work with in our natives land to help right the wrongs.
Yet again, another white trash terrorism inflicted upon us Natives. I've know about this since I can rembember and I am now going to a Catholic College to see what they are like now, they aren't all like that, so far just the Jesuits, and Right Wingers. I just go to this college to see for myself what they are about, and I will never convert. My ancestors had to go through the exact same thing in Catholic, Morman, and Church Of Christ schools. And look at my family today, no culture. Sad
i, too, am a residential school survivor, and healing more every day, it is videos like this, that really spark the First nation pride, and to keep strong, show the government that there are strong survivors out there who will change the impact of the residential school effects(negative) to POSITIVE dreams for the future of our children/grandchildren, ahhiy
This video literally made me cry....I wish i had the power to change everything...Bring Back our Language,...bring back our culture...its never to late

My father survived St. Anne's Indian Residential School in Fort Albany, Ontario.
Please watch a video I made of me interviewing him for my Grade 12 Final task.
Go to my profile or search "Interview With Residential School Survivor". It should be the first search result.

Sometimes we can only turn to the Creator. In some way, we have to find understanding in all of it, and let our pasts become a great teacher.
