  • Hot and sexy!

  • @moodoffff

You are RUDE. Your ugly name-calling shows that you have no respect for other people. You call them "sluts." What an ugly, dumb comment. I guess you never learned any manners. You don't know these women, so why are you making nasty comments about them? Are you so perfect that you can condemn other people - people who don't even know? How stupid. You have no class. Look at your own faults (such as your disrespect and your bad manners) instead of attacking others. Fuck off, moron. Jerk.

  • @moodoffff are you perfect?

  • o0 >>>>>>>>>> most famous US people are not from US but they do not mention it. but when they talk about Arab Video and the girls are beautiful they start talking about Arab history ...I do not know any thing about it ... but who cares they have Arabic nationalities and they are proud of it.. is it hard for you to see beautiful Arabic girls .. will let me tell you something these girls are sluts and there are many beautiful Arabic girls that u did not see >deal with it..

  • @max9upgrade

Buy a vowel?! ... with all those dipthongs. rOUby, hAIfe, .... I'd like to buy a consonant.

  • First: Most Lebanese (especially the Christian ones) are part European, one or two even have blue eyes (I met a blue-eyed Lebanese Christian.) from the Crusades and Romans.

Though Haifa Wehbe wears gray lenses.

Second, in the majority Lebanese are NOT Arab, but Phoenician, with a European mix. Arabs came in later, mainly in the Muslim groups.

Thirdly, Misrlou is ultimately Arabic Music. It filtered up through the Ottoman Empire into Greece based on the Arabic scale: the Hijaz Kar.

  • @streetplayercentral omg lebanese people are arab, maybe they grand father were european but now they are arabs, like me i have armenian and european blood or my grandfather was but im still afghan-persian. i dont say that im armenian or european, cause that was my grand father who was that.

  • @MissAfghanGangster Not so! I have known a Lebanese who called herself a Phoenician. While they speak Arabic, and may call themselves Arabs, on a genetic, ancestral level they are more European. I am talking genetically, not national allegiance.

If you are Armenian, Persian you are not genetically Afghan unless you have another Afghan parent in your line..

For ex: The Dutch Boers of South Africa, called themselves Afrikaners, but they are not African Black. They are blond whites.

  • @streetplayercentral

phonecians or arabs are same origin = semitic

    both migrated from Arabia .

    phoencians are originaly from Tylos

+ Go to lebanon ...ask them LOL they are moslty pan arab ....

accept on youtube behind screens (fake accounts )

haifa wehbi for example belongs to banu amela tribe (NOT phoencian )

im an expert in arab families :)

    PEACE

  • @arabiannight100 I know Lebanese. They consider themselves Phoenicians, NOT Arabs. Almost all of the Lebanese have DNA which tracks back to Phoenicia. Only 15% of their genome tracks back to Arabia. The Chrstian side did not mix with Arab Muslims at all, and so have no Arabian DNA. The Christians mixed with European Crusaders. Moreover, there were Indo-European invasions from the Hittites.

They insist they are Phoenician NOT Arab. They have the DNA evidence. They only speak Arabic.

  • @MissAfghanGangster I want you to go to YouTube and look for this title: Scene from the film 'West Beirut'

There the Lebanese son proudly declares he is Phoenician NOT ARAB!

  • @streetplayercentral if i where raised and born in lebanon or another arabic contry, so then i would be arab too cause if i were born and raised there, and if i lived there! but but it was my parents who were afghan! got it? if the kid in the video said that he isnt arab it means that he just came in lebanon and just live there. that how the american people became american people, and my danish/european teacher told me this in school, just so you know it. cause not so many people knows it!

  • @streetplayercentral

Hello There ....many thanks for answering

~ sorry ive to say that are wrong and a victim of media .

~ christain lebanese are the purest arabs among us .(They are mostly J haplogroup ) and never mixed with asians or africans (persians berbers etc) after islam and kept their arabid race

~ they are mostly Ghassanids NOT phoencians ,christianty has nothing to do with phoencians

~ christian lebanese are mostly from mauntains and phoencians were by sea

    ~

  • @streetplayercentral

~ Arabia is full of non arabs .and lebanon is more arabs than saudi (im saudi and i knw)

~ arabs reached lebanon and levant b4 islam ( dont be victim of wikipedia )

    1- amorities (bedouin)

    2- Ghassanids & lakhamids (christian arabs )

3- Nabataeans ( bosra the to all levant ) and ( Osroene turkey) <--- christians arabs

    4- Queen zenobia (pamlyra )

    5- banu bakr (turkey )

Phoecians were from arabia Tylos and we are all arabs christian and muslims media will not change us

  • @arabiannight100 The Phoenicians were chased from the coast by the Muslim invasions.

Remember, first the Hittites (Aryans) then the Greeks, then the Romans, then the Nordic Crusaders came in to the area.

PBS Go to YouTube and Check this: The Quest for the Phoenicians (PBS)

Phoenicians are Semitic, but not all Semites are Arabs (for ex: The Jews)

While the Lebanese all have Phoenician DNA, it follows that the Muslims would have more Arab content; and the Maronites far less.

  • @streetplayercentral boooooooooooooooooooring do not bored us with your historical lecture ...no one cares... do not say that these girls not Arab in tell u make a DNA test on each one of them .. then you can say that they are not Arab.. is it bother you that we do not look like the shit u present in your movies will let me tell you something these girls are sluts and we are not proud of them>>> and there are many beautiful Arabic girls that u did not see >>>deal with it...

  • @streetplayercentral many European countries were occupate by Arab for more then 100 years like Spain and Turkey does that make them Arab???? will no wonder there women are beautiful....

    first : lebanese are arabs

    arabs are arabid race

arabid race can be with blue eyes ,green and mostly brown to black

most romans turks persians greeks were influenced by the arabid DNA .

    J haplogroup .

saudi arabia is not the purest arabian country we have so many afro- arabs ,asians africans origin ppl .

arabs in arabia are only (30%) .

  • @harunoanooda your religion stll kills women by stoning under false accusations and makes little girls marry old men,you are bad people and you will never learn to be better that is impossible for you.

  • @FrankCoffman Hardly, i admitt it may have been like that long ago but wasnt every religion like that long ago. The only issue is that nowadays some Islamic countries havent moved on.. The rest of the Muslim community believe and encourage creativity. Its just a amatter of time til the Islamic countries move on

  • theMrRakan

the music is : black Eyed Peas - pump it

  • @TheMahmoud31 You are fucking stupid. Black eyed peas stole this from Dick Dale- Misirlou. So this is Misirlou from 1963. Black eyed peas 2009?

  • @kamikaza3334 You are ignorant and rude. For your knowledge, the song is greek and was first performed by Michalis Patrinos' band in Athens, Greece in 1927. So according your logic, Dick Dale stole it as well... For more info, check misirlou in Wikipedia.

  • @Armalord I knew that the base is Greek ... But i just tell you that BEP stole completely the arrangement of Dick dale of this song. So dick dale made really different composition with misirlou from 1927 but BEP didn't. They just take it from him the way he did it and put it in pump it.... Btw my knowledge is wide. I never stand for a thing if i don't read/know enough.

  • goooood

  • i love this music.. wow so exciting

  • These women are not Arab they are descended from Greeks and are so Westernized on top of that. Im so sick of both the media and online people promoting this crap as "Arab" it is Westernized Lebanese not Arab!

  • @AbdullahKhaleeji7 , chill

  • AbdullahKhaleeji7 -- "Mr. Pure Arab,"

I see that you're still on your little jihad against anything that "isn't Arab enough."

You sound like a chauvinist or a racist. You have no appreciation of other kinds of music.

Why don't you try to ENJOY the music, instead of ranting about Arab purity?

Do you hate Greeks and non-Arabs? I guess you're a racist.

This video isn't "crap." You didn't come here to watch the video. You ignored the music. You're just using this video to post an angry message.

  • @AbdullahKhaleeji7 you are wrong sir these are more arab than you think women were dancing like that before islam so belly dancing is one of the oldest cultures of the arabian world oh and yes i am an arab from saudi arabia i know what i am talking about.

  • @AbdullahKhaleeji7 Man shut the fuck up! stop trolling these videos spreadind false shit like lebanese are not arab or this and this person is not arab.Lebanese are more arab then you think. And its funny how you point out they are not arab when many of your khaliji asses are african slaves brought to the middle east by african owners. Many khalijis are not even that pure.In today's arab world there is no such thing as a pure arab.Middle East is a diverse region and its been conquered by many

  • @AbdullahKhaleeji7 People from the greeks, romans, turks, and many other people.but does that make us non arabs???no it doesnt.Lebanese are arabs, syrians are arab, and many and many people in the middle east and north africa are arab.Stop trying to cause hate and racism against people. In fact i am sure you have some type of jealousy against us that you have to take your anger at us by saying we are not arabs.Man get a fucking job and get a fucking life as well as live your life without hating people

  • اجمل احساس

  • My Misirlou (Egyptian girl), your sweet glance Has lit a flame in my heart. Ah, ya habibi, Ah,? ya leh-leli, ah (Arabic: Oh, my love, Oh, my night?)[2] Your two lips are dripping honey, ah. Ah, Misirlou, magical, exotic beauty. Madness will overcome me, I can't endure [this] any more. Ah, I'll steal you away from the Arab land. My black-eyed, my wild Misirlou, My life changes with one kiss Ah, ya habibi, one little kiss, ah From your sweet little lips, ah. Peace!

  • broken glass, and camel dung :)

  • Haha. Misirlou in fact is Turkish, "Mısırlı". I never noticed that.

  • the song is actually greek, though the name does come from turkish due to the greek immigrants coming from turkey

  • yeah, song is greek origin but i am talking about the word. i've never noticed it was a Turkish word / origin.

  • Slogankid,

Yes. this song was written in Greece in the 1920s. See the "more info" section (upper right). "Misirlou" means Egyptian girl. The word comes from the Turkish word "Mısırlı" which comes from the Arabic word for Egypt, "Masr."

  • " Missirlou" is the woman from Egypt...the "Myssiri"... word coming from the Minor Asian greeks in Turkey ...:)

Just additionaly on what Slogankid wrote!

  • sharine can not dance she tries to Dance but she can not

  • The666Phoenix,

Thanks, I'm glad you liked it.

  • Yia'sou Arapises...it's good to see Arab women enjoying life to the fullest.

Great video, and of course great music.

  • Aegialeus,

Thanks, I'm glad you liked it.

  • Haifa has is all! Mariam fares too!

  • Ok Haifa Has the FACE Mariyam Has the BODY

     Shereen Has the VOICE

  • 1927...

  • naomivanm

I put a free mp3 download of this song in the "more info" section (upper right).

  • HAHAHAHAH SHEIK YERBOUTI!!!! thats HILARIOUS!!!!!!!!

  • There is no doubt that this song is of Greek origin.

The original was sung by Mihalis Patrinos in the 1920's not exactly as we know it but in the rebetiko style which is a Greek style of blues.

Later Roubanis composed the oriental style melody of Misirlou that we all know and took the credit as the composer which he was not.

For all we know Patrinos is the composer. If he stole this melody from an Arabic song which exactly is that song?

  • many thanx to those greeks for having wrote such a really nice song. you should also listen to the original greek tune, which is even more sensual, although a bit antiquated for our days. nevertheless, five stars for this music clip. you ve made an excellent choice on the dancing bit.

  • westclub4,

Thanks. Yes, it's a great old Greek tune from the 1920s, although it's gone through some changes over the years. I've listened to old recordings of it, as well as the lounge music versions from the 1950s.

Anna Vissi sang a great version of it at the Athens Olympics in 2004. I put a link to her performance in the "more info" section (upper right).

  • this music is from greece

  • bargainconnections.

Yes, indeed. "MIsirlou" comes from Masr, the Arabic word for Egypt. Thanks --

  • We are blessed to have these beauties in Lebanon

  • Long live Arabs!!!! Hello from Greece!

  • Pretty video,nice work Frank

    Thanks a lot>>

  • Thanks, mero. I made this video partly because I wanted Americans to find out about Arab singers. Americans don't even know that there are Arab women singers -- much less how good they are!

  • wow - sexy women! This reminds me a little of the "hot for teacher" video.

  • This is an absolutely great idea. I never imagined I'd see Haifa dancing to Dick Dale! lol What a cool vid! Misirlou goes great with them.

  • powelltg,

Thanks. I thought "Misirlou" was sort of appropriate to match up with these Arab singers since the song has a Middle Eastern flavor. It's an old song that Dick Dale turned into a surf guitar hit.

Dick Dale is of Lebanese descent. He was born with the name Richard Mansour. His music has an ethnic influence. "Misirlou" means Egyptian girl. See the "more info" section (upper right).

  • ths song is written in amerika early 30s from

katsaros a greek born anatolian refugge

    from the island of rodes

  • Miriam fares is a good dancer as others in North America. i liked her.

  • the music in this video. is ARMENIAN origin, all of you are wrong, this music has been in our culture for a very long time, and its spose to be a slow song but through time it has changed and remixed remade all that.. its a wonderful piece in the end music is music, but i will say it again,

AREMENIAN MUSIC, EXACT DATE I DONT KNOW BUT MY GRANDMOTHER WHO IS 85 YEARS OLD NOW, SHE LOVES THIS SONG BUT SHE ALSO KNOWS THE WORDS TO IT, SHE TELLS ME THAT SHE USE TO SING IT WHEN SHE WAS A CHILD, THANKS

  • great but rouby totally ruined it.

  • Myriam Faris is very pretty :)

  • FrankCoffman

Yes, to the best of anyone's information, Misirlou was perhaps first heard in Greece in the 1920s. But since the rumor about a pre-existing 78 recording of this tune having been made in Egyptian Arabic in 1918 or 1919 and then copied in Greek seems to be still alive and well, like you I'm hoping this Arabic tune will soon be produced and the old adage here in the USA saying that "History is rumor solidified" will see the light of day at last. Thanks again for the stunning video!

  • MrUSandA,

Thanks, I'm glad that someone finally commented on the video, instead of the origin of the song! Ha. Did you get my little joke at the end of the video about "Sheik Yerbouti" (shake your booty)?

I'm surprised that the origin of "Misirlou" has become such a hot topic here. Interesting discussion. I didn't expect that so many people would care about this topic (which I began in "About this Video" at upper right).

I haven't seen documented PROOF yet that the song came from Egypt.

  • MrUSandA,

Yes, there are rumors and allegations that "Misirlou" was based on a Middle Eastern tune, but I haven't run across any definite proof of that. No researcher has documented such a claim. Alvinorey gives us no way to substantiate his assertions here.

Dick Dale created the ultimate version of "Misirlou." Before him, the song had been recorded as enjoyable lounge music. Even Greek singer Anna Vissi's stirring rendition (the video is on YouTube) was influenced by Dick Dale's version.

  • Hey Frank Coffman: Before anything else is posted in this stack of he-said/she-said, Greek or Egyptian composer,or any of that stuff, let me say once and for all that everyone commenting about this video is completely missing the point of the entire exercise by not thanking you for your keen artistic effort in the creation of this really marvellous and youtubialicious bit of video entertainment out of the Arabic-speaking & dancing world. Thank you! I hope more viewers will show up and find it.

  • apro282:Get your facts and dates right , please. Patrinos recorded his version in 1927 - eight years after the original by Darwish was issued on the Michian label in Egypt.we are not debating if the word misisrlou is Greek or not (it is Greek), but it is entirely a literal translation of the Egyption song title "Bint Misr" which means "Egyptian girl". In other words , if someone records the beatle's YESTERDAY under the title "Χθες" it does not mean it is a Greek song.

  • This is an interesting dialogue. Shayk Sayyid Darwish, Patrinos, Roubanis as the composer of the original Miserlou (or BINT MASR in Egyptian Arabic)??? I'm going to bet my money on Darwish because I have heard he made a 78 recording of it back in 1918. Any comments to refute this bit of Middle Eastern/North African music history from anyone, or youtuber support for the statement? Keep it going...........

  • MrUSandA,

Yes, an interesting exchange here. Unless someone can offer proof that "Misirlou" derived from an Arabic song, I think we have to accept the fact that "Misirlou" first appeared in Greece in the 1920s. If "Misirlou" was copied from an Arabic tune, where is that Arabic tune?

Alvinorey contradicted himself, giving 2 different explanations for the origin of "Misirlou." The song may have been inspired by Arabic music, but as far as anyone knows, the song originally came from Greece.

  • But there is a category of words in which the feminine suffix --ού is compulsory, and that is precisely the Mισιρλής type.

    c) Suff. --λής, fem. --λού This is an interesting extension of the --ού suffix in that it always has an --λ-, and the reason is of course that Greek has adopted -- en bloc -- words containing the Turkish suffix --lI, and, secondarily, even made it productive.

  • mal. Μισιρλής -- fem. Μισιρλού (see above) μερακλής -- μερακλού, cf. Turk. meraklı, "curious" (i.e. having merak, "curiosity; fancy", Gr. μεράκι) παραλής -- παραλού, cf. Turk. paralı, "rich" (i.e. having para, "money", Gr. παράς)

  • all versions of this song use the term "Misirlou" from the Greek version which speaks specifically of an Egyptian girl which in itself is derived from the Turkish Misirli/u which means Egyptian(male or female) which in itself is derived from the Arabic Miṣr, which means Egypt. In Greek when someone sings about Misirlou they knew they were talking about an Egyptian female.

  • a) Suff. --ης, fem. -ού μαυρομάτης -- μαυροματού, "with black eyes" σγουρομάλλης -- σγουρομαλλού, "with curly hair"

    b) Suff. --άς, fem. -ού κοιλαράς -- κοιλαρού, "with a big belly" φωνακλάς -- φωνακλού, "who bawls"

    - the b) category being more common than the a) as the feminine forms μαυρομάτα and σγουρομάλλα would probably be more frequent.

  • If you enjoy this version of "Misirlou" and you want to hear the lyrics sung, go to Greek singer Anna Vissi's stirring rendition on YouTube:

    "Anna Vissi - Misirlou"

  • To hear several old versions of "Misirlou" from 1930 to 1960 (all preceding Dick Dale's surf guitar hit in 1961), go on the Internet to:

"Dinosaur Gardens: The Mysteries of "Misirlou"

  • The author of this excellent article on DinosaurGardens also confirms that Nick Roubanis stole the song and put a copyright on it together with the 3 Americans Leeds,Wise & Tauber presumably the publisher getting a kickback on royalties as was the practice. This is copyright infringement and the estate of Sayyid Darwish should sue and they will win back the copyright. Many more tunes like "good night Irene" suffered from these fraudulent practices.

Anyway,Frank-this is the end of the topic for me.

  • The author of the article on DinosaurGardens does not know the history regarding Misrlou. Nick Roubanis isn't the writer of this song nor is it Sayyid Darwish so his estate wouldn't be able to collect anything on this song given its not his. The original creator of this song was Michalis Patrinos from the early 1900s. It was first performed by the Michalis Patrinos rebetiko band in Athens, Greece in the early 1920s.

  • apro282,

Thanks for the info'. Yes, you're right, all versions of this song carry the title "Misirlou," which indicates that the song originated in Greece.

Some people claim that the melody came from an Arabic song. But if that's true, what is the song? It hasn't shown up, which makes me think that this song is Greek, not Arabic, in origin.

The songwriter may have been inspired by Middle Eastern music, but I haven't seen any evidence that "Misirlou" was copied from an Arabic melody.

  • Turk. Mısırlı, "Egyptian" is made up by Mısır, "Egypt" + the suffix --lI (with fourfold vowel harmony), adapted to Greek as mal. Μισιρλής, fem. Μισιρλού. The -ού suffix is indigenously Greek, and is used to make feminine forms of adjectives ending in a) --ης and b) --άς:

  • Nick Roubanis did not write this song nor did Sayyid Darwish so his estate wouldn't be getting anything given its not his song. The song is from the early 1900s in Greece, it was first performed by the Michalis Patrinos rebetiko band in Athens, Greece in the early 1920s. If anyone should sue for rights it should be the estates of Michalis Patrinos or Titos Dimitriadis.

  • PART3:The origins of "Misirlou" must therefore be broken down to the origins of the song title which is Greek, and the origins of the song melody which is clearly self-evident Arabic to any ethnomusicologist. The original USA copyright is to N. Roubanis, 1934 for the Greek lyrics and music and assigned to Colonial Music Publishing Co. of NewYork in 1941. The song is fully identified on recording as" Misirlou, Arabian Serenade". So he nicked it but acknowledged the Arab origin of the Tune.

  • Alvinorey,

Dick Dale acknowledges that "Misirlou" is a Greek song. He doesn't claim to have written it. But you said a few days ago that "Dick Dale wrote this tune." Now, you're saying something different.

"Misirlou" was first played in Greece in the 1920s. So, I'm not surprised that a Greek singer such as Anna Vissi is singing it nowadays, too.

For some reason, you want to deny any Greek origin or input into this song. Dick Dale got this song from the Greeks, not vice versa.

  • PART2:If it was the recently-arrived Roubanis who brought it first to America, it does not necessarily mean it was a "Greek song". In fact, there is a very old Egyptian song with lyrics titled "Ya Banat Eskandaria" (Girls of Alexandria) which is the exact melody line for Misirlou (Misr is the Arabic name for Egypt). Musicology wise, the Greeks inhabitants of Egypt learned Arab melodies, nicked and exported them back home, and then Greek Immigrants took it to the States claiming it as their own.

  • PART1:The Tune is strictly Egyptian and was learned and carried out to the the world by the multi-cultural inhabitants of Cairo and Alexandria. in late 19thC until 1960, were a bustling Cosmopolitan communities that attracted everykind of ethnic group around the Med. Italians, French, Greeks, Turks, Jews, Lebanese, Brits, Living side by side and enjoying the Vegas lifestyle. I have no doubt that Greeks and others took basic Arabic root melodies & tunes back home and recorded their own versions.

  • Misirlou" goes back to the 1920s in Greece. It's unquestionably a Greek song, even if it was inspired by Middle Eastern music.

"Misirlou" means "Egyptian girl," so the lyrics point to Arab influence. Maybe, a musicologist could dissect the song's origin. For more info about the song, look at "About This Video" (upper right).

I guess no one gets my little joke at the end of the video about "Sheik Yerbouti" (shake your booty).

  • If anyone doubts that "Misirlou" is a Greek song, please go to the video of Anna Vissi singing it in Greek at the Athens Olympics in 2004. Her stirring performance of the song is on YouTube under this name: "Anna Vissi - Misirlou"

  • Come on FrankCoffman - this is not a significant and noteworthy comparison for purposes of ascertaining the origins of the song. She is clearly singing Greek Lyrics to Dick Dale's EXACT arrangement of the tune - including the chromatic sweep.
