ToeJam and Earl. Gotta love 'em. Too bad they were denied an appearance on Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing. Xbox Live release of the first one didn't happen for some odd reason.
Still they are like one of the unsung heroes of the Sega Genesis. They're respected by some hardcore gamers while unknown by everyone else. Such a bleedin shame
Because of Mission to Earth’s poor sales, T&E Productions disbanded and closed its doors afterwards. Greg Johnson currently owns the IP of ToeJam & Earl, which is probably why the funky alien duo hasn’t been seen in any of Sega’s crossover games; that and Sega somehow losing their fondness of the series nowadays. Will there be a new Toejam & Earl installment? Really, it’s up to Sega and Greg Johnson if they ever get around to it.
Here’s the history: T&E Productions regained the rights to the series from Sega in 1995. In 1998, they had a deal with GT Interactive to publish the game for N64, but it didn’t happen when GT was acquired by Infogrames in 1999. In 2001, T&E attempted a Dreamcast version with Visual Concepts, but also aborted when Sega discontinued their swansong console on that year. T&E wanted to release it on PS2 and GameCube but instead chose the Xbox, partly due to free adverts offered to Sega by Microsoft.
ToeJam & Earl III: Mission to Earth is the long-awaited sequel to the first two Genesis games. Developed in conjunction by ToeJam & Earl Productions (aka Johnson Voorsanger Productions) and Visual Concepts (Sega’s 2K Sports series, Sonic Adventure 2 (credited for motion capturing), Ooga Booga, Floigan Bros., and Weaponlord), Mission to Earth returned to the first game’s concepts, but now in 3D and still has that offbeat charm and funky humor.

Looks really cool and fun. I love it when the little brats fall of the cliff... yelling all the way down.
