I want to be a sports photographer. ill hopefully be going to uni next year to get a degree in photography and im currently at college finishing off my A level in it. When your applying to work for a magazine or something as a photographer, would you say they focus mainly on the portfolio or the background education? I was just wandering because im only going to uni for the extra experience and if its really crucial for me to go or not. Do students get jobs as photographers with just an A level?
@andyt5303 dont think ihave ever sent education information for working of any sport magazine regarding photography work. send them some images and get on their books
@Capesports4 depends on the deadline. watching documentary on the photographers at the olympics, shooting in jpeg giving to the runner and sending them straight away to the news agencies etc. no time to waste editing.
Sony A550 is having a very fast focus also and 7fps/s is actual a marvelous think to have ;) ... if you have any chance in checking this camera , you should ;) .
u will need more than a 70-200 2.8 thats ur mid range most guys i talk to that shoot american football r shooting with a 400 2.8 for night games and a 200-400 f4 during day games editors like tight images. as well as sports illustrated. and for indoor u need 2.8 lenses and ur gana be cranking ur iso at least 1600 if not more u need a fast shutter speed to freeze movement and action
Tips on indoor sports photography would be super! I finally got myself a still camera to start learning on...Canon T1i and I now work at a mixed martial arts gym, and I am learning how crappy the kit lenses truly are, especially for indoor sports where the lighting isn't superb. UGH! Is all I can say, give me a video camera so it all makes sense again!
crank your iso and buy a 2.8 lens or check and see if its ok first but u can set up flashes and bounce them off the walls or ceiling depending on the gym

@Capesports4 Not true.
A lot shoot JPEG only, because you can shoot more in a burst.
SOME shoot Raw+JPEG, but unless it's for a strange assignment, a lot of them shoot jpeg.

@Capesports4 ummm pretty sure you don't know what you're talking about. I'm a professional sports photographer and very few of us shoot RAW.
It's all about speed and JPEG gives you the advantage every single time out.
