  • As Thom puts it, this is just one of those songs that "ended up on the shelf" like FOLLOW ME AROUND, BIG BOOTS, and I PROMISE. But of all the tunes, I hope this song gets made first. (Not this version though... PINK POP yes!)

  • I'm sorry to say it, but this is one of two Radiohead unreleased songs I'm convinced we'll never see on an album. (The other being "Big Boots".) That being said, I actually really like this version and think it has potential.

  • @Caulfield789

What about I Promise and Follow Me Around. I myself would die to hear studio version of I Promise

  • I miss Ed's epic harmonies... Liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiift!!!

  • I feel sorry for all those people who went nuts when Thom announced lift and then had to listen to this. I really like this version but compared to the Pinkpop version.....pfff!!

  • its quite obvious Lift could be a radio hit, although i despise that term... if you like this unreleased song, look up big boots...

  • anyone who knows radiohead knows they like to sit on songs awhile... the fact that Lift isnt even a bside tells me they must really like it, but arent ready yet... like true love waits

  • honestly... i had orgasms with the other version.

  • the first version is so much better, granted this is still leagues better than most current music. The first one though just teetered on the edge of being happy, so anxiously trying to be positive but at the same time drowning in fear and anxiety. Such a brilliant song, either way. Kind of like promising your wife and kids everything will be OK while watching the last lifeboat cast off.

  • @kardinalsins Some one's been watching Titanic....

  • I cannot believe people are slagging off this version on here, I love it! And Radiohead could never put me to sleep, they are incredible

  • not the same...

  • this version weirdly reminds me of 'The Cross' by Prince...same kind of pacing at least

  • personally i think this is the best version of lift - the 1996 version's pacing was not agreeable to me

  • this is one of the few songs for me that are equally awesome on both this version and the early one

  • Well, this is post-OK COMPUTER Radiohead; darker, more melancholic...

  • @AzQ22 what? i'm pretty sure post-OK COMPUTER Radiohead is less dark and less melancholic...

  • @EgoTrippin311 have you ever heard Kid A? heh...

  • I hate this version..2002 sucks.. I'm going back to 1996..

  • i dont like this version much.1996 lift is one of the best things of all time, esp the pinkpop version. its so melodic and full of life and energy and beauty and this version, while okay, is so turgid and slow and dreary in comparison. if i hadnt heard the 1996 version first i would like it better but i just dont think it can compare.

  • This is the best version I have heard.

  • great version but yea i do prefer electronic

radiohead's b-sides and unreleased songs pretty much shit over most band's material

  • @hodgins even their own.

  • I prefer the electronic version!

  • i like this version but pinkpop 96 just kicks so much ass

  • If anyone out there is named Ben. Please come foreward. There's a girl trying to find you.

  • lolllll

  • @TheMusicsSoul holy shit that must be me

  • although this version is amazing....and i do adore it...i like the older version better....but Thom's voice...WOW!!!

  • thank you man...

  • This version sounds like it would probably fit on in rainbows.

  • i love this version! can't decide which one got me more - the old or the new one!

  • this version is more darker and has a lot of the hail to the thief atmosphere!

liek the other version better but this one is too good too!

  • Both versions are touching, Thom's voice in this song is PERFECT!

Just like "True love waits", which version do you prefer? The acoustic version or the electronic version?

  • Pinkpop version has a lot more life than this one!!

  • i completely agree...its much more POWERFUL!...it would have been nice if they just recorded it like that and at least made it a b-side to no surprises or something like that

  • All this needs is some string quartet then its perfect.

Give it that in rainbows atmosphere

  • This is nice but nowhere near as good as the 96 versions. Those ones make the hair on my neck stand up during the chorus when it all kicks in. If they take it to the studio I really hope they don't do it like this.

I've noticed on all lyrics and tab sites they list the last line as 'so lighten up squirt'. I personally think it's 'so lighten up squire'

  • ..."so lighten up squire"

    Me too.

  • 1996 version kicks this version's ass, although this is pretty good too.

If only they have written Lift in 1994.... It would've been the perfect ender for The Bends.

  • No. It would have fitted yes but Street spirit is the prefect "ender".

  • I feel as if I'm the only person who absolutely hates street spirit.

  • god i hope that is a joke.

how can you be sure is one of the worst songs they've ever done imo, street spirit is beautiful and the song and filmclip really helped radiohead start to step out of the whole creep one-hit wonder shadow

  • i like this version better than the pinkpop, both are amazing though.

  • This is the "morningbell/amnesiac" version of lift, so to speak, while the pink pop version is the "morning bell" version (this is just an analogy). I'm only making this reference because I like both versions, and they both have good things about them, but the pink pop version is better by about a mile.

  • The original version should have been on in rainbows

  • will prob end up on their next album.. considering most songs take 6-7 years before they release the final version.. haha.. look at Nude.. that was written way back in 96..and is performed on the Meeting People is Easy DVD from their 97 tour!! *actually prefer the old version of Nude! (Big Ideas)

  • lol i hope so! this and big boots XD

  • Esta buena la version aunque me gustaba más la otra pero la introducción es genial.

  • this is my favorite radiohead song. and this is a dull version to the average ear, i enjoy it because i like this song so much.

  • i should mention that a live version i have isnt on youtube or anywhere else online, and its a perfect version, i think, its faster than this one and a bit slower than the pinkpop version

  • Mind sending it to those who want it?

  • metro 1996. chicago, illinois. its on youtube

  • upload it!!!!!!!!!! what are you waiting for?

  • i finally found it and you might have already then too. its from Chicago, IL,us at the metro in 1996. just type in 'metro 96 lift' and you should be all set

  • The whole reason I liked the original Lift is because it WASN'T done in the slow depressive "I'm going to put you to sleep" style of this version, which is typical of too many Radiohead songs. The original has some sense of urgency and is much better.

  • esta versión melancólica tiene también su encanto.

  • ehhh I liked the first one.

  • I love so much this song... but I still think that the 1st version is better than this one... well, of course this version is pretty cool, everything made by Radiohead is great !!! =D

  • the original is a masterpiece why change it they might as well play it in its original form and hopefully during this tour

  • my favourite non album track
