Try hanging diagonally next time you have to hang in a regular hammock. That way your back and shoulders won't suffer from the dreaded 'banana' effect. It's really very comfortable.
great video. i hammock camp and its the only way to go for me. i have a few setups. i really like this one and the ease of the setup and quickness of it. you are very funny man.
A pad even helps in the warmer seasons. My first night in a hammock I didn't have a pad under me. WOW! Got cold!
What I haven't figured yet is how to hang my pack so it is protected from elements when I'm using a hammock.
My hammock is designed for Brazilian style sleeping (at an angle) and is very nice once in it and settled. I find the flat hammocks more unstable feeling.
@mtlyb - couple of options: make a gear sling that suspends underneath your sleeping hammock (eno has one, "underbelly gear sling"), make a backpack cover so it has it's own raincoat and you can just lay it on the floor underneath your tarp or hang it on a buckle at your foot end if not too heavy and covered by tarp. By all means, visit the hammockforums (google it). Best forum ever for hammock ideas. ;)
biggest hammock camper fail ever, LMAO (but in an entertaining way). You fail at getting in, fail at being in it, and fail getting out, CLASSIC! LMAO. Fun video though, good job
i really like mind... i have just received the 2011 ( nice green colour) i have made a few modification to mind ( gear loops inside and i replaced the bars with carbon fibre)

The size and weight is an issue when compared to other hammocks. I packs to the size and weight of a solo tent - I noticed, however, that this season they have a lighter model by reducing those heavy metal attachment strap.
This looks like such a great idea - no roots in your back, no worries about finding flat ground - until you wonder about getting dressed in bug-infested areas, or dealing with being tentbound due to bad weather for a day or so. Any tips, anyone?
I believe you would be less distressed if you could see outside while the hammock was swinging. I served on a submarine in the Navy and you certainly cannot see outside while on board. I am prone to sea sickness and the rolling motion of the ship while on the surface made it much worse.
@dbw16d I havn't used another style of Hammock but I have friends that swear by the Hennessy hammock. This style of hammock on the video also just came out with a bug sleeve extra that I think is a great thing to use when its not raining
Enjoyed your demo of the Chrysalis which is a type of bridge hammock. To lay flat in a traditional gathered end hammock all you need to do is lay on an angle, which creates a relatively flat pocket. Laying down the center line makes you arc like a banana. Lots of good info over at Hammock Forums.

What shoes are you wearing in this video?
BTW: I'm enjoying Paddler's Guide to Algonquin now and pining for spring.

@taklamakanprime The shoes are Keen sandals. I like the toe guards and the have lasted with a lot of abuse

I actually enjoy the swaying some what.
I have to agree that if you hear nature calling that it's very irritating to get in and out.
As well as cold with an under draft.

I believe it was a backpacking guide, but don't quote me, as my girlfriend brought three camping books home at once. Enjoyable reading.

Thanks for the review. I enjoyed reading a camping book you wrote a few weeks ago I got from the Paris public library.
