  • Let me clear up a misconception about Bagua . . . it's not only a hand-to-hand combat. The key concept of Bagua is that it utilized soft, circular motions to disorient, as well as use opponent's internal weaknesses against them. Weapons are allowed.

  • they do use weapons, but they do not focus on it

  • I apologize. In my opinion, if you have two experts in any style, and one of them is also highly skilled in the use of weapons, the weapons expert will have an advantage even in the open hand. They weight of a weapon forces on to move more efficiently. The ability for the weapon turn against you forces one to be more precise. The nature of how the weapon provides physical advantage though its use can be transfered to the hands and the body.

  • In some martial arts styles techniques with the hands are modeled specifically after weapons to emulate the applied force, mechanical advantage, and speed. From a purely defensive perspective, most weapons move faster then the eye can see, and faster then the hands can move. Train defensively against weapons one develops and eye and sense of timing for the speed of weapons. Eventually event the fastest punch can appear slow. A weapon forces exploration of body movement and control.

  • It was neither. But if you were not so interested in throwing insults you may have been smart enough to figure that out on your own.

  • IMO Weapons training teaches how to move your body within the restrictions of structure. It also shows you how to make your hands as effective as the weapon, in speed and penetrative power. Without weapons training you limit the ability beat any weapons with the open hand. Much like you limit your skills by not fighting those of different styles. You need to understand what works in your opponent and why. Nice Post...

  • think some eye protection might be a good idea when using the deer hook. Its intersteting that the extended blade design is popular. a few years ago the equal lenghth blades was the only one peole used. is this communist inspiration?

  • there is an interesting article about this weapon on kung fu magazine of may/june 2007.

    Zi Wu Yuan Yang Yue.

  • Who is the Bagua teacher?

  • Clearly a douchebag.
