In fact, Machine Head received a Kerrang Award for best inspirational band, and they mentioned that Metallica was inspired by their 2007 album, The Blackening. I took a gander at Metallica's 2003 album and compared it to Death Magnetic and I don't know about most people, but you can hear the difference in both the songs on the two albums. But yeah, your right on all accounts.
