  • Mi amor afroamericano,tu canta esta melodia,del carajo,te amo.

  • Beautiful, simply beautiful. This song takes me back to Cafe 290 in Atlanta with a glass of bourbon and a cigar with a beautiful intelligent woman beside me. Mmmmm.

  • Give me a week in Paris..Please!

  • One of the best covers of this classic I've heard, it is LUSH !!!!

  • Happy 61st Birthday Natalie.

  • @TheBrownEyedMist

I love it 2... It's an incredible lyric, gorgeous music...my favorite version though is Nancy Wilson whose version of another incredible song Midnight Sun, is also my favorite

    Thanks to Daizy !!

  • I so agree! This is absolutely one of the BEST albums ever-ever-ever made! And thank God it was! Now generations will have the pleasure of listening to these great songs...sung by one of the greatest voices ever!

  • well....just, well

goddamn, ain't life a bowl full of cherries or something?

  • One of the best albums ever made.

  • Brilliant I love the voice that is the one and only Natalie Cole.

  • amazing

  • As most jazz officianado's know by now. composer Billy Strayhorn was only 16 when he penned this great standard. One begs the question, how on earth did he conjure up those lyrics? What life experience could he have drawn from? Just another great story from jazz lore to tell future generations! Natalie's delivery is pure magic and is raised to even greater heights with Johnny Mandel's sweeping string arrangement as backing. I'm sure Billy would have been proud.

  • @TheBaritoneCrooner oh yeah, completely agree, far far beyond a doubt

  • @TheBaritoneCrooner He was hangin around in Harlem...in and out of Jazz clubs all day long...and he was a genius

  • @TheBaritoneCrooner Yes, Strayhorn was a genius. There is no way, at the tender age of 16, that he could have written this commentary, predicated on his own life experience. However, he was brilliant...and obviously a great observer of human nature. The words are so eloquent and exquisite. So sad that he left us at such a young age. Thank you for your insightful post.

  • @MALP1231 I forgot to mention that he died of esophageal cancer, at the young age of 52. Such a tragedy.

  • i studied jazz music, and i once sang this song on my exam, i got an 8,5 wich is a pretty high score :) but it just feels like i wrote this song .. great lyrics! this is a nice version, but not very original. i mean, its to 'original' , she could have made it more her own. but kuddo's to her =D

  • @SantaElisa I'm wondering if you've heard her dads version of this song. I heard his version first which was in the mid 1980's. My grandma was a jazz junkie to the max, lol. Anyway..., her version is definitely original compared to her dads. The songs "Smile" and "That Sunday, That Summer", just to name a few more I like her versions of those much better than her dads.

  • @SantaElisa give me a break! This is wonderful..NEVER could YOU sing it better.

  • @55mrj ya think? ;)

  • @SantaElisa This is a brilliant version of this song!

  • a brilliant song, no question. she does a great job of it too...!

  • INHO, The finest vocal arrangement ever done of this most difficult, magnificent song. Natlaie would have made Billy Strayhorn smile, to hear her do this. Wolfsky9

  • this album is my fave. its great to get the feel for nat king cole songs sung by a female, as i sing this style and i live his songs.

  • Absolutely stunning.

I'm in the process of learning this song and it's the most difficult I've ever attempted. But it's incredibly rewarding

  • Just one of the finest renditons of this song ever sung....Natalie....you are incredible.

    I especially dug the ending....best I ever heard....God Bless.

  • The Genius of Billy Strayhorn never fails.

  • great version. i'm eager to hear Diane Shuur's version, where she really belts out a tune...

  • i put this on after a hectic week and sit out side and relax...one of the best ever

  • I used to visit all the very gay places,

    Those come-what-may places,

Where one relaxes on the axis of the wheel of life,

To get the feel of life,

    From jazz and cocktails

  • i love this song i love this album completley fell in love with every single song.

  • me too. loved it as a child love it now.

  • I'd love to hear Anita Baker sing this.

  • Wow, what a great "modern" version of this classic. Amazingly intimate - I feel like I'm all alone in an underground jazz bar... in a good way. :-)

  • I'm glad this song touched you someplace, lol

  • @00Daizy00 lol

  • OMG, this is simply amazing...brings tears to my eyes. She breathes so much soul into it. Thank you!

  • My favourite song. She is an incredible musician. Such a pity she cancelled the moon and stars openair- I would have seen her live.

  • breathtaking!!

  • The definitive version as far as I've heard - but I'm open - my favorite song.

  • this is why genetics mean so much...

  • this Song reminds me of a Friendship i once had with someone Who is Now.. A Nobody

  • nice RnB re-harm.

  • This version is so beautiful and haunting.

  • Love Natalie, voice is super, a gift from God.

  • She sounds lovely. Timeless piece.

  • Perfection!

  • It's right up there with the Stan Getz and Ella versions. Beautiful arrangement.

  • You're absolutely right. Those three versions are fantastic.

  • Best version of theis song ever!

  • I agree. Even better than her old man's stellar version.

  • I must concur. Natalie's version of this song is, by far, the best between her and her incomparable dad. Or anybody else's for that matter.
