  • This country has gone insane...R.I.P England.

  • So true, excellent video sir.

  • Top stuff good sir!

  • Good for you old Chap. I could not agree with you more.

    It really is Appalling.

  • This video is great. Got a good chuckle out of it. Rock on!

  • I'm appalled by this video.

  • To paraphrase Christopher Hitchens, "I don't care if you are offended. The so called offense doesn't harm you, only your thoughts. I respect you as a person to much to respect your ridiculous notions. Grow up. Get real. Show some self respect!"

    Thanks for the video.

  • Being offended is a good i indication that someone has told the truth. Why would anyone feel offended if there is no truth in the claims or utterances that offend them?

If one calls a fat man fat, he is offended, but if you call a skinny man fat, he laughs with you.

  • If one intends to provoke others and gets an un pleasant response I don't feel sorry for them. I think these action are B.S. so does that give me the right to take a dump in an area reserved for you It would seem you think so.

  • Love the vid and the attitude! Subbed!

  • Brilliant! I, Myself, being someone of lesser faith or what some call an Atheist, found this to be quite a great commentary. People seem to act and lash out on such comments and jokes towards such things like Religion, Race, and Sex more or less because they feel as if they are expected to do so. When people say they take offense towards something, it seems as if they are doing so only to get attention towards themselves making them extremely self centered and introverted. Thanks for the video!

  • Wow dude, you're pretty cool old man. I'll be honest i totally misjudged you,I saw your pic / title of your vid and I thought I was gonna have to come in here and lay the smackdown with a major Troll comment/comments, but no dude you're A OK. I sorta wish my Dad thought the way you did. =D

  • @Rhinotaur82 Thanks for the comment. I have no time for my contemporaries who cling to the mindless prejudices of the 1950s and see no reason to move with the times. It's what keep me so young!!!

  • nice video! people take any comment too serious nowadays..

and what do you mean by "even at my age?" you dont look a day over 15.

    have a nice one

  • Very well said tenneral :)

  • Summed it up perfectly with "Perfetic Creature"

  • That one person can mention so many of my favourite things in one video (especially Yes Minister,) is enough for me to vote this 5 stars. But when the message of the video coincides with my feelings it makes the decision even easier.

  • @0:25-"Do you remember that episode..."

    Nope! :-P

But yeah, if people, religious or otherwise, can't grow a thicker skin and want to be offended, then they have exactly three options.

They can try to convince the offending party to stop being offensive, and if that fails, either offend back or deal with it.

  • I think it was a bit unnecessary to go in to the place of worship, their private space, and leave those drawings just as I think it's intrusive to go door to door preaching, the latter being the greater intrusion of the two of course.

    But criminal charges?

Then their intrusions should be outlawed also and so should telemarketing on the very same grounds, let the prosecutor argue that and make a dent in the tax revenue, would never even be considered.

  • i could understand why a religious person might not find these funny.however,i agree: many people take offense with the intent to force others to act in ways that make the world a more comfortable place for THEM.sort of flies in the face of free will, doesn't it?

and i am delighted by your video today!

  • One wonders if these ridiculous overreactions have their origins less out of shock and more from a desire to gain the proverbial "15 minutes of fame." At times like these we need to summon our inner Harpo Marx.

  • 5 stars for yes minister. I love that show.

  • Words sometimes change meaning greatly over time. I can foresee a day when some student of 20th century English literature will ask the teacher what "appalled" means, and the teacher will answer, "offended." lol

  • "Yes, Minister" was a wonderful show!

Fantastic video as always. 5 stars!

  • It was just leaving printed cartoons about the place on seats. You or I would simply have gathered them up and put them somewhere else - not have had a hissy fit, saying that we were deeply offended & insulted!

  • so basically some athiest inflated with self righteousness decides to enter a room he doesnt have to, provided for visitors to the airport to practice their faith without 'forcing it down the throats' of all the poor athiests forced to come into daily contact with these veritable zombies - and leave cartoons mocking their faith all over the place just because he has nothing better to do?

behaviour like this shouldnt be greeted with anger or applause, but pity - the man clearly needs a girlfriend

  • I think more likely it's a blasphemy law protest. And as so many have rightly pointed out (and also within this video itself), the religious threats and offences we're all exposed to every time we go out to a shopping centre by zealots on the streets ordering us to repent make these cartoons seem perfectly innocent.

  • dunno where you live, but i have never been preached at on the street, il see a christian organisation doing something maybe once or twice a year but its usually music or dance which i do not find the least bit intrusive (completely unlike this mans behaviour).

Athiests in general have major persecution complexes.

  • I grew up near Reading, Berkshire, and frequently when shopping in Reading, Guildford, Kingston etc. was preached at by people with megaphones and sandwich boards. I'm certainly not screaming persecution (and wouldn't say that most atheists have "persecution complexes"), I just wanted to point out that these people who are "offended" at the cartoons would likely have no problem with the board-clad megaphone maniacs yelling hellfire and damnation on street corners.

    Both are perfectly legal.

  • "Athiests in general have major persecution complexes. "

As opposed to Christians who like to wear representations of the instrument used to torture their founder to death round their neck, and, at least here in the UK, get to sue the company they work for if they don't let them wear it.

  • @revjimbob In the U.S its a popular argument for young christians to say: Oh my, theres so much pressure to be an atheist; your not cool if your a christian. People think were lame etc, etc. Yet when I was growing up as a christian, I literally was never approached by an atheist, or made fun of for my religion, or pressured to become an atheist, or even hinted and that despite the fact that I was rather devout and loud about it. Immediately upon losing my faith, many of my friends abandoned me.

  • Love this gentleman. Always a good chat to be had. Looks like I found my English ''Mr. Rogers''

    Cheers good sir!

  • She must be very insecure in her beliefs if she feels threatened by critical cartoons.

  • I'm beginning to love your videos more and more. Your attitude to the various things you blog about is always sensible and you go about it all in such a distinguished manner.

  • The joke images have now given more laughter than offense. Ironic!

  • "What rather annoys me is when people, often individuals, claim that they are struck dumb - almost; by some utter trivial event, and they call it 'being offended."

We have a similar phenomenon here in the States. We call it being either religious or being a Republican.

  • LOL no nail glue!!

  • we have an "interfaith meditation room" at the airport i work at. really a waste of good space.

thankfully it isn't staffed and is only about this size of a closest. it doesn't seem to get much use other than when the cleaning and maintenece people go in there to smoke pot.

  • I like this one - at least the room is put to good 'spiritual' use!!

  • @yellowdart137 That's how they mediate.

  • Apparently a lack of unwarranted respect and funny jokes are threatening.

  • I think that people just about everywhere are realizing that they've had enough. Great video, sir!

  • This is a multi-faith 'prayer room' I take it? Well I'm there then! My religion REQUIRES that while naked, I dance about with a pony tail butt plug right where it belongs, chanting the 'inspired words of my creator spirit' as they are spoken to me. Of course to all those in ear shot It often sounds like I'm saying "yer fooking jesus allah false gods have no existence and are the product of evil minds". Honest! That's how I will pray. Religiously. Every time I'm in an airport prayer room.

  • Oh yes and of course Yes Minister and Yes Prime Minister are still one of the best comedies and political commentaries that I have ever seen. Episodes that can be viewed over and over again and still raise a laugh and a smile. And raise a groan too when one recognizes that the actions and commentary of the Hacker Government sound nearly identical to the words and actions of ones own politicians.

  • @GeeKayKayGee

    Rofl.

    Video please.

  • And who can argue with that sentiment? Well said, sir!

  • yes those images where never scary for the person who saw them or anything! reliougs people love to be offened.

  • Very accurate observation! I'm appalled that this man was prosecuted. Offended?? Get a hold of yourself!

  • She was insulted? It's nothing like the endless stream of negative remarks about atheists with which we're expected to put up/

Incidentally, what's up with youtube? They've changed the way you reply and it wasn't clear that you had to leave the video and go to "see all messages".

Autoplay is also new and a pain. As soon as I found the right button I turned it off.

    "see all messages"

  • Maybe atheists should present themselves as an insulted party more often. It seems to be a promising strategy to get one's way.

Just have to get over that whining feeling...

  • It is uncanny how people who like to go around telling everyone else that they are evil sinners who deserve to burn in hell for all eternity get so offended by the most trivial of things.

The most recent I heard about was female church goers being screamed at; "you're all going to hell" for the supposed "sin" of wearing trousers!?!

    Don't ask...

  • Great video but is there going to be a backlash or will people just stay quiet - that's my worry...You Tube is a great forum ( bit of latin for you ) but every time someone post contraversial material they get flagged so the "backlash" is numbed.

  • While I am slightly troubled by the actions of Mr Taylor (although in reality it is not really that different to leaving religious material in a public place I suppose), the fact that he faces a possible 7 years in jail is disgusting and does not, I feel, fit the 'crime'.

Just an aside, that I'm sure you're already aware of Tenneral, is that all 12 members of the Jury swore in on the Bible.

  • Hey widge,

Same here about slightly troubled. I'm Not sure what he did (magic maker or post-it-notes) but it seems like it did not require being posted in the chapel to be funny. Also agree about level of punishment.

  • He left cut outs of comics and pictures that were a bit rude/cheeky towards religion. "No nails Jesus" etc that sort of thing.

I heard something about him having sexually explicit cartoons no him when he was arrested, but the BBC news article implied he was posting such material in the room which I don't think he did.

In any case - this has got the NSS etc riled up and a good thing too.

This appear to be a stealth blasphemy law.

  • Thanks for the fill in, widge. It sounds like a small fine would be appropriate punishment for this"menace to society".

  • Awesome video. You should become a regular commentator.

Well, the cartoons probably don't really fit into a prayer room, but I thought cleaning personnel would take care of such matters, not the justice system. Sigh.

  • My thoughts exactly!

  • I will never understand why the most powerful and omniscient being in the universe needs to be protected against something almost every 12 year or older human survives day in and day out, being the butt of a joke. Why this protection must come from the laws of men pushes my incredulity to the brink. Frankly, it's appalling!

  • @prodigyat9

"sticks and stones will break my bones, but names will never hurt me" Is an adage that I recall with fond humour, from my youth.

But then, atheists are seldom the ones to use "sticks and stones" are they!

  • Yeah! God-up there, already, Yahweh!

  • Spot on.

  • I remember that episode well. I miss that show. :(

Hypocrisy is the greatest luxury. Raise the double standard. *giggle

  • There you go! Couldn't agree more.

  • One thing that recently occured to me is that the religious will often use 'offended' when they mean 'angry', the reason being that when you take offence, you can demand action be taken. If you do this just for being angry, you come out like a petulant child.

  • Being crucified with No-Nails Glue would be an appalling experience, to say the least.

  • They've just passed Blasphemy laws here in Ireland. Someone ought to tell the justice minister that the year is 2010, not 1810.

  • Have they actually used that medieval law to prosecute anyone, or did they simply introduce the laws to pander to the Eternally Easily Offended?

  • Free Speach stops at the halt of anothers fre speach. I am a theist and I am not offended by that. If he said people who believed in god where delusion ofr insane then I would be offended but I would not complain I would just think he was pathetic. Drawing on walls wow that is so mature I would have laughed Iif I was the preist of that prayer room, I would have done him for public damage and defacement of property.

  • That sounds about right to me as well. Also, if fancy took me, I'd hide an mp3 player and loop John Lennon's "God" to play.

  • A prayer room? Sounds like a nice place for a snooze while having to wait for a late flight!

If they got offended, I'd say snoring is my way of worshiping and their complaint left me highly appalled ;)

  • I hope the pictures were shown to the judge so that he could have a giggle too.

This kind of insanity is just another in a long line of jaw-droppingly stupid little rants that the church has managed to dig up.

As many have said. This is the death throes of a terminal patient. When is it going to do the world a favour and give up the ghost (pun intended)?

  • Great video, especially the part about people taking themselves too seriously. I realised this about a year ago, and once you start to pay attention you'll find that people aren't able to laugh at anything because people won't make fun of themselves. I guess my parents realised this to, because we usually spend a good amount of time laughing at ourselves and each other for the more "dumb" things we have done.

  • It's sad that of late we in the u.k seem to be giving more weight to peoples faith, rather than less. Or at least "powers that be" give it more weight.

  • I am unclear as to when being merely rude became "threatening hate speech."

  • It's difficult to comment on your videos, because you have a knack for saying all that needs to be said, even in six minutes. And this vid is not an exception.

  • Thanks indeed!

  • Yes, this madness is all over the world. Great vid, sir. (and thank you for the message.)

  • 100% in agreement Tenneral. Maybe its time we published a (very long) list of all the things that are REALLY offensive about religion, such as its insufferable arrogance, and constant push for priveleged status. Exactly how does "being offended" manifest itself anyway ? Does it result in wailing and gnashing of teeth, rending garments, or some form of self flagellation? What a bunch of pathetic arseholes.(I hope that hasn't offended you)

  • The reference to "no nails glue" made me howl with delight!

  • Yes, I too thank the diversity of YouTube for points or view and comments (good free speech exercise, but horrid commenting system).

Well said. And I too am **offended**, but only because so few people are passionately offended by the conversation-stoppers of some other's supposed offense. ;->

  • Stephen Fry says a great thing about "offense" at the beginning of this video

    watch?v=02dXAkxbyQg

    It's a quote i regularly use.

  • Im appalled and thats offensive to me is like saying "I have no psychological boundaries to handle this and am thusly hurt".

Those thin skinned people will maybe go the way of the dodo.

But it also seems that we are giving up the "Marquess of Queensberry rules" of public discourse. The new kind is irreverent but more truthful and certainly more noisy in viewpoints being pu forward.

  • Keep them coming!

    Cheer-io!

  • To offend through humour may be one of the most noble actions we have to weaken oppression.

  • "Every joke is a tiny revolution"

  • I would rather be poking fun than planting bombs.

At least I can buy you a beer afterward.

  • Lol I really like your stuff my man. Keep it up.

You know, so many xtians assume that all atheists are young with their lives ahead of them, and when they get older, will return to religion for the comfort it "supposedly" gives.

I am 51, and will not ever do this... and I know you won't either.

Keep up the good example my friend.

  • @Skavar4000 IM 51 too and I have left it for good when I was 12 and I will never return to that hobgob.

  • The godly are invariably thin skinned but have no problem consigning the likes of us to firey pits and other eternal tortures.

Would be interesting to add up the hate crimes of the catholic church. Serial hater that it ia:)

  • A prayer room at the airport? The space could be much better used by providing a nice, quiet place where an overworked pilot could take a nap before his next flight.

  • Very practical and very true!

  • @TheMudbrooker Or hook up a couple of ps3s/xboxes and to let people chill out before a fright.
