  • "Perchik please I can handle my own wife!" lol

  • 0:43 ......rejected.

  • @Pinkpanda73 it's Hodel that marries Perchik not Chava

  • i love this scene! but i've always wondered, why didn't tevye look into chava's eyes? i know that he was angry at her for marrying a christian and becoming one, but y ddnt he @ LEAST look in her eyes?

  • @Pinkpanda73 I think that the whole idea of her marrying a Christian was just too out of tradition for him. He can only bend himself so far, it's just how he was raised. So he refuses to meet her eyes because he doesn't WANT to change his mind. With his other daughters, he knew he wasn't stepping to far out of his comfort zone. That's what I got anyway?

  • @Kassaremidybelllynn I agree. Some things can be changed, and it does not say in the Bible that people are not allowed to arrange their own matches, but it is expressly, totally, unchallengeabely forbidden to marry a non-Jew.

  • I AM PLAYING HODEL IN MY SCHOOL PLAY, IM WORRIED!!

  • @SceneQueenMimi what grade are you in and doing this?

  • Perchick is a modern thinking Jew. They do get married, but Tevye does not disown Hodel. Like his other daughter for marrying the Russian.

  • @HEBisreal I don't think so, or else Tevye would forbid their marriage like he did for the youngest daughter later.

  • @HEBisreal

Perchik is a jew that grew up in town far from the more traditional countryside living jewish people

  • @HEBisreal No no. That's Fyedka and Chava. Perchik is a Jew- a Marxist or some such, but a Jew nevertheless. This is why he's called Reb Perchik, why he covers his head, why he mingles amongst the Jewish community, and why he's allowed to marry and teach them.

  • @HEBisreal I take it he is not religious, as he participates in the 1905 Russian Revolution.

  • @Sami7685 why should that meant he is not religious? the participants of the revolution were made up of the discontented sections of society, of which the Jews were one.

  • @cigtt You know, you are right! :D

  • @HEBisreal No, that's Fyedka, the boy Chava marries.

  • I love the song for both this scene and the scene with Tzeitel and Motel. I think it's a combination of a catchy tune and Topol's voice-it just has a power, yet softness to it that makes it very endearing.

  • I love how he says "And not even asking permission, from the Papa," it sounds so cute.

  • "Did Adam and Eve have a matchmaker? Oh yes, they did...and it seems these two have the same matchmaker." :)

  • @maskeddevera aw thats so cute!<3

  • Hahahaha!!! "Perchik, please, I can handle my own wife!" Hahahahaha!!! Tevye loves and respects his wife so much, that's why he fears her.
