  • Thanks Big O! You are appreciated. Clay - Acappella Texas, Austin Chapter of BHS

  • Just like being a good guitar player or having "perfect pitch", the ability to single out these parts and internalize them is a gift. I can't play guitar, I don't have perfect pitch, but I have a very deep hunger to learn to do these multipart tags. Your videos are a very nice influence!

This one (like the others) sounds AWESOME when they're all put together. Salute!!!!

  • haha yeah it was only the last one

  • lol i do believe u did say loves

  • @nartard34 hehe, yeah I did. I think it was only on one of the parts, but I totally screwed that up and I didn't want to do another take.

  • I bet it was easy to hit the high notes because of the cold eh??? heheheh gr8 stuff

  • Well done, good sir!

  • Much like other multi-octave singers, I can't hit the low notes unless I have a cold. :)

  • The bass sounds a lot like what Darth Vader would sound like if he took up singing, at the end of this tag :D

    -instant thumbs up-

  • You hit the low Eb in the car. I think you could have done it with a little bit of effect on the bottom.

  • What is a good multitrack to use?

  • Dude u got a great range..

  • I wish my crappy mic was nearly as good as your crappy mic :D

  • You reminds me of my uncle. Hes just so laid back and so much fun to spend time with. haha

Keep up the good work, you should do a radio show or something

  • Clever man!

  • commitment woohoo

  • hahaha... the bass is awesome! Great work Murry. love your work and am always impressed. Look forward to hearing many more from you soon.

  • I love your tags murry, seriously haha.

  • haha that was a cool harmony i like your style

  • I really like your tracks! You are so good about teaching I was wondering if you could answer a question for me.

When you record the different parts, are you listening to a 'click track' of any sort to synchronize your changes?

  • No click track. I always record the lead first and use that to sync with. If you turn the vowels in a pronounced way it's pretty easy to follow usually, but I do often have to do a few takes to get it to sync up right.

  • nicee!! 5 star

  • really good man ^^

  • LOL, I also sing often in my car in the cold. I don't want to sing at home because I have a loud voice and I don't want to bother my neighbors.

Fortunately I managed to get a practice room to record my mulitrack Happy Birthday. Otherwise I would have done it in my car, too :).

  • Hey man...I need a garageband tutorial 3 from you! I'm trying to record the songs I have posted on youtube (click my name or type "RMerritt" to find them) and you left me hanging! good job singing though, and you do have a wonderfully friendly face!

  • Thanks! Well, considering that video is for Garageband 3 and they just released Garageband 5, I doubt I'll get around to more videos...for that version at least.

  • Well done, Big-O! (Even in your car!)

  • Good good good!!!

Missed you lately. Thanks for posting and keep them coming!

  • I can't believe I didn't think to ask, why are you in your car?

  • Because I kept waiting for the ideal time to record a tag, and the result was that I wasn't get getting them recorded. I finally decided to just freakin' go for it! So at lunch time I took my laptop to my car and went for it.

  • Recording a barbershop tag in your car during lunch time on a frigid January day -- now that's what I call a hardcore commitment to auto tune.

Seriously, you uploaded this vid exactly one year ago today, and it's still one of the best multitrack tags on YouTube. I just love it. Thanks, Big-O. ~Paul~

  • lol, thanks!

  • again, i just want you to know how much i appreciate what you do! i am just wondering...but why did you record in your car? lol

  • Superb. Also once again, you have such a ridiulously friendly face! How anyone could not smile in talking to you I dont know! hehe

  • I think you are wonderful.

  • Another gem, O Man - thanks!

And you're right about it being ridiculously cold out. It was 61 today! It was so cold I almost had to close the windows.

    8-)

  • Very funny.

  • you are amazing

  • really liked this!!!

  • Gosh I love this.

    ahhhhhhh!

  • I like you man and I appreciate your commitment to tags! Keep the whole world singing brother!

  • Ahh, an exceptional tag from the master :)

good work, man. Frozen or not, you spit out a good'n! Hopefully the next tag you'll be home safe and warm!

  • ohh, you're such a whiner. ;]

  • Yet another great tag =]

    Keep up the good work.

  • The bass did sound a little wonky, but you gotta do what you gotta do! It still sounded really nice! I'm glad you finally made another video.

With all of my favorite barbershop group's videos being taken down due to copywrite infringement, it's been hard to find those sweet harmonies I so crave, but I know I can always re-watch your videos until the internet ends...so thank you!

  • how do you make it echo like that!? what are you using to record (not the laptop mic but what program)? I wanna do one of these asap!

  • That echo you're hearing is just reverb. That's going to be a basic feature in any software audio editing software. I always use Garageband.

  • Lol you recorded it in your car ??? haha crazy ! great as usual.

  • what is a tag?

  • It's a barbershop term that usually refers to the last few measures of a song, though it can also refer to a particularly cool snippit from the middle of a song.

I've been meaning to put out a video to explain some of the basic barbershop terms that I use. I'll do that sometime.

  • ah, thanks.

  • OH THIS TAG IS GORGEOUS! murry, this is simply divine..i love it!

  • At last! Hi Big O, it's great to see that you're back in business :-) I bet we are many, who have waited for new posts from you. I really like this tag. By the way, what is the last note, the bass sings?

  • The tag is in Eb, and that last note for the bass is right on the tonic, so it's an Eb. Though, I didn't use my pitch pipe when recording this so I don't know if that's actually what I sang in the video or not.

  • Yeah! The big O is back in action!

  • Awesome, always did like this tag, it's even better frozen. If you need a bass for a tag or two, shoot me a message... assuming my computer will stop eating itself from the inside.

  • Good to see you again! What are you doing up here in Cheeseland?

  • I live here.
