  • Eat less meat, stop drinking soft drinks/drink more water, shop around for cheaper car insurance, never co-sign, max out your 401 K at work, make a budget, stay away from malls/stores, eat in more, use coupons, buy used, use your local library, brush & floss teeth daily, take care of your health, borrow dvd's from library/redbox, buy a IRA Roth every year, learn about investing at your library, google Dave Ramsey/Clark Howard, don't lend money, shop at thrift stores, buy in bulk.

  • Miss Amy, you're an inspiration!

  • I'm having a Tightwad Gazette giveaway on my blog today: adventuresinthriftland.blogspot.com/2012/01/complete-tightwad-gazette-giveaway.html

  • There is nothing wrong with saving money

  • @quest8899 there's nothing wrong with anything ever if you seperate yourself enough

  • i agree with her...frugality should be a lifestyle in good times. it helps save for retirement, it helps to buy gifts for loved ones, it helps to put kids thru college. thank you for sharing your knowledge with others, this helps society

  • I use to b a subscriber to the Tightwad Gazette ! :) it had ALot of Good n Fun Info I now wish I still had them. I lended them out to others in late 90's n never seen again :(

  • @DorPurseFreak I got a used copy (Amy would be proud...lol) of the Complete Tightwad Gazette off of amazon.com...total cost just over $6 and that was with shipping fee! Might wanna see what you can find there if you want them again. So worth it!

  • @blackflame03

Why? Let me introduce you to a REAL woman. Were you expecting an airbrushed supermodel? She's a mom with six kids and has done really well for herself despite her (gasp!!!) teeth. Get real.

  • Thanks! I just ordered your book. It was on sale, and by ordering a second book (different book) I got free shipping, which saved me the price of the second book. So I got the other book for free! I love books, and I almost always get my books from second hand shops, or as discards from the library.

  • I use to get her newsletter since I had five children, but I figure that the DD who did the drawing is the one who told a reporter when she was about 12 "I've never even had as much as a NEW pair of shoes from JCPenny's." I do know that Amy had money saved so each of them could go to college. Mine have gone to college as well.

  • Hello again Miss Amy! It's good to reconnect you and the Dacyzyn tribe. I once took your newsletter. I plan to keep in touch.

  • Life is short .... being TOO cheap is self-defeating. Lighten up, jeeez.

When you die, your heirs will blow all that money of yours on shit and junk.

    Happy shopping! :(

  • She sounds just like Dr. G medical examiner LOL

  • Used items are always sterlized before using them. Wipe used earrings down with isopropyl alcohol. Wash clothes in bleach or pinesol before wearing. People are so strange about having used stuff. There is so much used stuff in the US it is crazy to buy new.

  • I love Amy. Just wondering if it is a good idea to wear earrings that have been worn by someone else.

  • great stuff.... but we'll NEVER stop with the insane GREED ...never.

  • There's a Tightwad Gazette Fan Club page on Facebook!

  • Awwww Amy ,your book is worth it just for the recipes!

  • I bought the book I Love it ! I love the tips and ideas in it. I try to frugal everything i can reuse things keep track of what i spend when i spend. I do use coupons all the time.I share things don't use with others to help them and trade as often as possible it helps big savings add up there are tons of ways to save money and i have fun doing it Amy has a lot iof good ideas . I recommend getting her books have a wonderful day everyone

  • being rich vs. looking rich, awesome

  • I lover reading her books. Have the 1st and 2nd books. Very informative.

  • The funny thing is a lot of her possessions are more appealing to look at than some piece of decor you would buy at Target or some other retailer.

  • Amy, I always think of you when my snobby friends tell me they'd never buy anything used; they have no idea how much new stuff you can get at yard sales/flea markets. I'd love to go yard-saleing with you! Loved your book, too.

  • Sad to say, bed bugs now have way.

  • I practice the ultimate frugal technique it's called "mooch of other people" and it works out great, I went to my sisters house ate dinner and that came to a total of zero dollars.

  • My mom calls her "The Crazy Coupon Lady" and worships her

  • Right on mother trucker

  • There is an Amy Dacyczyn Fan Club page on Facebook. Fun!

  • @lauraandcalin Please send the link thanks all I could find was a Community Page. I love Amy and shop in all the same places

  • @SmokingCub--The name was changed to Tightwad Gazette Fan Club. If you look for that, you should be able to find it.

  • Excellent! Amy your my hero! :)

  • I love Amy and her way of thinking. She will never have to worry about what the economy is doing. I want that peace of mind...

  • Anyone else keep an empty mcdonalds/ burger king/ fast food restaurant of your choice cup in the car so you can get a "refill" instead of spending money on a coke?

  • @mynameisdarthtater we use to have free refills at the mcdonalds in canada but there was so many people keeping there cup they took out the free refills.

  • @mynameisdarthtater yes. Ever sneak into an Embassy Suites' lobby for the free breakfast? I'm hardcore on vacation. I think Amy has more class than that but I do it with her in mind. You just flash a room key from any hotel and they let you in. I do it on vacation b/c their breakfast is so much better than cheaper hotels but ES can be very expensive.

  • she can afford to straighten her teeth after all those years saving

  • @prisonson why? if your teeth work and they are clean and healthy why get them straightened.

  • Love Amy Dacyczyn, have all 2 volume's before she did the anthology. Well worn and well used!

  • Thanks so much for the "Frugal Zealot" fix I've been craving for. I also, was a newsletter subscriber. Man how I miss those monthly "pick me ups". Glad to see she hasn't changed.

  • You go girl! Repurposing is a great attribute. I love to do it! I LOVE yard sales....it's actually a treasure hunt!

  • Thanks for the update - I used to be one of her newsletter subscribers. Yeah for yardsales!!

  • Thank you for posting this, I've always wondered what became of the Dacyczyn family, :)
