Jailbreaking Apple Tv 2G (Greenpoison RC6) Untethered

When I plug my ATV2 to my Macbook Pro via Micro USB; the ATV2 blinks once and then never again....ANYONE KNOW WHAT'S WRONG?

@tase1015 Do it w/o the power cord just usb cable. Be sure to put it into DFU mode.

@GMELECTROINCS I eventually tried the tethered method and that worked fine but I really didn't want tethered so I restored and set about greenpoison again. This time I fired up TinyUmbrella and with my saved SHSH's restored to 4.2.1 instead of 4.3 and voila and although the LED still never went solid, I was able to reset it and there was the jailbreak. And yes, I figured out the USB only thing - that's quite important. Thanks for the help!

I haven't had any problem getting to DFU mode and the jailbreak says that it's complete but the LED on the front never goes solid. It drops from the fast blinking in DFU mode to a slow steady one will remain that way no matter how long I leave it.

If I reboot it, I have no jailbreak. thoughts anyone?

@mpowereduser Usually this happens from time to time on the jailbreaks i do. just keep on doing it until you are successful: tip use only usb to the computer and just wait a min for good measure lights do not go steady . once that is done plug it to your tv and verify.

I've followed the instructions several times on both Mac & PC and it seems to upload on to the ATV2 but when i reboot its never there. The flashing white light drops to a steady flash at the end but never returns to a solid light at the end no matter how long i leave it. Any ideas what i could be doing wrong?

Thanks GME, I finally got GP to work until Complete appeared, waited a few minutes before disconnecting etc but after connecting to tv no sign of GP anywhere, just the regular ATV menus. Tried the whole process a few times but no love. Current ATV2 firmware says 4.2 (2060), Is this the problem? Tried restore but won't go lower.

@dobbatron 4.2 is the correct version . Try it in a non apple computer. or another mac. I had to do it 4 times before it worked. IF you still have any issues i will gladly help out just go to my site and ill make some time to help you out.

@steve123467 Play video content that you have or install third party apps. Same thing as the old Apple Tv the only thing its quicker

My apple tv is not detected on the my PC. Went to apple store and exchanged for a new one and still doesn't show up on itunes on the PC or tinyumbrella. What cable are you using (brand)?

@uniqazngri I was using a cable that came with my external hard drive that i purchased in apple.

Now it is a little tricky to put the Apple Tv into dfu mode. What i do is no power cord just usb to your mac or pc. Run the GreenPois0n App hit yes then wait get your remote "Make sure its not being detected by your mac if on a mac just cover the ir . Now hit menu and play for 2 second now hit jailbreak .keep holding it until the lights on the apple tv blink rapidly. once it happens let go .

@dobbatron In the underbar there is a tutorial. also do not plug in the power cord only use the usb. thats it.

good video. i have a question if you can answer please. thanks. so do you need to have the apple tv plug into your tv and turned on and connected to usb to compter than jailbreak? or plug in apple tv and then connect to usb to computer then jailbreak? thanks. now another question is. how do you get nitotv once jailbroken apple tv? and what other apps are out thier for the apple tv once jailbroken? thanks. i appreciate. thanks.

You just need the Apple Tv2g connected to you compuer via usb run the application hit yes on the first thing once that is done follow on screen directions to put you device into DFu mode hint press jailbrake and hit menu and play at the same time till the device light starts blinking rapidly. The jailbrake should start after its done wait a minute to make sure everything is good to go then

@darkillusion88 put your apple tv onto your tv . a new item on the screen named greenpoison should be on the menu. hit that and start the download once that is done all the nito ect should be there . head to nitotv and start downloading all the apps you need "install software" i recomend you download all of them i will be posting some tutorials on my webpage aswell as videos here on the details of this and other tweaks.

Now do i need a program on my PC for apple tv to read my system or does it automatically find my pc as a media server and it uses that??

@dieselboy27 Its quite easy once you Jailbreak the Apple Tv 2g . Go to Nito Tv and start installing the packages you desire. You can also search . The only thing as of today Boxee is not on the Apple Tv 2g .
