It's chord progression, which basically means how the girls are singing. It's not the lyrics or the beat, it's just the chord progression, aka the same chord progression that has been used hundreds of times.

I def say they are different, somewhat related sounding, but hellooo hey have the same genre of music. There is so many different artists and musicians out there, anyone who plays an instrument knows how incredibly difficult to come up with something COMPLETELY knew, because there's so much out there so much has been done, something will always sound like something else.
When I first heard "Born This Way", I have to be honest, I could hear the similarities with "Express Yourself". However, after a few more plays, I realised that this was because they are pitched in similar keys, sung at a similar tempo and are similarly composed. They are two completely different songs, about different things, sung by two different artists.
I think Madonna just want some credit because most of Madonna songs are from her own talent. Not the talents of other. Gaga.. Time to give lady M some credit.

Both songs are written V, IV, I. Lady Gaga's is F#, E, B, and Madonna’s original is written G, F, C. Though they have technically different chords, they use the same progression of V, IV, I. That means that if Gaga's song is pitched down 1/2 step then it sounds exactly like Madonna’s. This is not to say that this is uncommon (many songs use the same or very similar chord progressions), but the fact that Lady Gaga also uses a very similar melody raises strong issues of possible plagiarism.

When I first heard "Born This Way", I have to be honest, I could hear the similarities with "Express Yourself". However, after a few more plays, I realised that this was because they are pitched in similar keys, sung at a similar tempo and are similarly composed. They are two completely different songs, about different things, sung by two different artists.

Both songs are written V, IV, I. Lady Gaga's is F#, E, B, and Madonna’s original is written G, F, C. Though they have technically different chords, they use the same progression of V, IV, I. That means that if Gaga's song is pitched down 1/2 step then it sounds exactly like Madonna’s. This is not to say that this is uncommon (many songs use the same or very similar chord progressions), but the fact that Lady Gaga also uses a very similar melody raises strong issues of possible plagiarism.
