  • Wow! I didn't think they had one in Bovington museum??

  • "In July 1944, the 630th Tank Destroyer Battalion reported knocking out 53 Tigers and Panthers and 15 STUG IIIs with a loss of just 17 M18s." Were there possibly other armor that were lost but never reported?

  • The production of the Tiger or Panzer VI was detrimental to the Third Reich. The tank is powerful but this is countered by it's complexity, lack of reliability, costs, and fuel comsumption. It would have been wiser to produce more Panzer V(Panther) or more Panzer IV tanks. The Germans are remarkable engineers but this resulted in their folly. Now it's the opposite with the automobile industry and etc.

  • @blitzwaffe

What you are forgetting is that more Panthers and Panzer IVs need more crew, more ammo, more railway flat wagons, more supply trucks etc.

One Tiger takes a crew of 5 and 92 rounds of ammo.

You build more Panzer IVs then you need more crew, more ammo, more petrol, more railway flat wagons, more supply trucks etc.

It's no as simple a solution as you might think.

  • @blitzwaffe

Also don't forget that the Panther did not exist when the Tiger first saw combat. The Tiger was ready fro action in late 1942. The Panther didn't see combat until July 1943 and even then it had many teething problems and design flaws. It wasn't until Feb '44 that the Panther was declared fully combat capable.

The Tiger I had seen almost a year and a half of service by then.

The Tiger I was a very valuable and useful tank in 1943/first half '44. Production ended in summer '44.

  • @blitzwaffe

""The production of the Tiger or Panzer VI was detrimental to the Third Reich""

Around 10,000 knocked out allied AFVs says otherwise. In many instances the Tiger tanks slowed down and even halted allied advances. They had an enormous psychological benefit to the German soldier and an enormous psychological dread to the allied soldier.

The Tiger was a valuable and very effective weapon for the German panzer forces.

Any claims otherwise are post war armchair revisionist guff.

  • @LaughingGravy31 I have a question for you. It seems you have excellent points but wasn't the Tiger I that delayed the battle of Kursk? Adolf Hitler ordered the troops to wait until the new tank could make it to the field. This may have given the Soviets time to prepare for the battle. Also, wasn't the allied T-34/85 or M18 Hellcat proven to be able to best the Tiger and Panther or was there another tank or factor?

  • @blitzwaffe

    Hi,

No it was the new Panther tank and the 90 or so Ferdinands that delayed the Battle of Kursk in July 1943. The Tiger I was ready long before Kursk, first seeing service in September 1942 near Leningrad, then further around the Leningrad front, in North Africa from December 1942 to May 1943, the Manych River/Kalmyk Steppe area in Jan 1943 and Kharkov in Feb/March 1943.

The Tiger I had already seen battle experience in 8 panzer different units long before Kursk took place.

  • @blitzwaffe

I should clarify. At Kursk, Hitler wanted to wait for the new combat debut of the Panther and Ferdinand. It'sd also true he did want more Tiger ready but also other tanks as well.

Many new tanks/AFVs made their combat debut at Kursk in July 1943. Not only the Panther and the Ferdinand but also the Panzer IV ausf H, the Brummbar, Nashorn, Hummel etc. Hitler wanted more of all of them.

  • @blitzwaffe

At normal combat ranges and in a frontal engagement the T-34/85 and M18 Hellcat had virtually zero chance of besting a Tiger I or a Panther.

That's really much it in a nutshell. But often other factors came into play such as flanking manoeuvres, use of the ground, ambush or just plain mass attacks where the German tanks were simply outnumbered and overwhelmed.

  • @LaughingGravy31 Thank you for actually explaining in detail on that. I hardly get the chance to meet an intelligent person in Youtube who can elaborate on their points.

  • @blitzwaffe

No problem. You are welcome. Nice 'chatting' to you too.

Just ignore some of the zealots here who have many multiple accounts and keep marking their posts 'up' while marking other posts 'down'.

Columbia Rules, for example, has zillions of other accounts and he keeps marking himself up, even though his posts are full of crap and pure nonsense.

  • @LaughingGravy31 columbiarules and kingkzt are the same person.he has other accounts where he claims he is a ww veteran, historian, musician etc. he does it only to make himself sound correct.the funniest thing is he is older than 40. a sick jingoist who hates black people and a god damn liar. comments he doesnt like get spammed after some time. discussions with him are a waste of time. you mentioned several zealots :D, there is only one. all of them are one and the same person

  • @Ixtzalit You are a joke IXtzabit. I am 45 years older than 40, I never claimed. to be a muscian, (I am Black, graduated from Tuskegee Institute which was and still is a predominately Black Univ)Served withthe 761st tank Bn (all Black unit) You and the spilled gravy are the only zealots who revise their nazi gods expolits at at every worship At least my few exploits are my own and real

  • @SgtKingK

    Nazi Gods?

You disgraceful cvnt. I'm an Englishman and my country declared war on Nazi Germany long before your country did.

You don't have to be a 'Nazi worshipper' to recognise historical facts and truths. The Tiger tank was an awesome weapon and had a very high kill ratio, didn't break down nearly as much as post war revisionists would have us believe.

Unlike you I'm not a jingoistic buffoon who thinks my country is the best at everything. The Germans smacked the USA hard. FACT

  • @Ixtzalit

"" columbiarules and kingkzt are the same person""

Yes I totally believe that to be a fact.

There aren't many people posting on this video and suddenly within a short space of time he has over a dozen plusses on his posts. Who the fvck are these people plussing him all the time? They aren't posting here and showing themselves or actually arguing their case. No, they just repeatedly plus his posts. It's obvious he is plussing his own posts under numerous different accounts.

  • @Ixtzalit

You seen that ColumbiaRules has 14 pluses on one of his posts? How many accounts has this guy got? His post is complete rubbish and totally incorrect yet it's got 14 pluses??

  • Funny how you kids argue back and forth about events and history you never experienced

  • @OHNGAI Blah blah fucking blah....A single American soldier..An Infantrymen...single handedly is credited with destoying 6 of those tanks all by himself....along with killing 240. German infantry..ALL BY HIMSELF. and he did it while standing on top of a burning US tank the german ones had destoyed.. For his efforts Audie Murphy won the CMH.. THE SAME MEDAL MACARTHUR WON....But since your retarded....hes probably a cowad too....

  • @shellback1970 fuckin liar audie murphy took control of a .50cal on a damaged M10 and used its radio to direct artillery on an advancing german company the battle lasted 1 hr ...not bad. no where does his combat record state he knocked out 6 TIGER1's single handed.....YOU ARE FULL OF SHIT!

  • @OHNGAI A Boys anti tank rifle was essentially obsolete as was the 57mm AT gun by 1943. Could it hav sustainted the same damage but form an MM3 90mmgun with HVAP? No Could a Pershing have suffered the same damage Probably

  • @ceero643 - Dear Santa...please fix this piece of slave-labor made piece of junk!

  • @LaughingGravy31 Gravy your facts are off. On 19-20 November at Puffendorf the US lost 26 Shermans and Stuart light tanks with 56 kille in action for 17 Panzers (3 King Tigers set ablaze from 155mm artillery) North of Frieldenhoven an M-36 TD destroyed a Royal Tiger at 1200yds, passing through the turret, gun breach and into the opposite wall,The following day in the course of 3 engagements 2 more Royal Tigers were destroyed . Harry Yiede, The Longest Battle pp,149-151

  • @LaughingGravy31 Not my claim, dispute this with Harry Yiede , General Major von Elverfeldt's note ( he was there , Schneider was not ) US Army Report of Operations, ! Aug 1944-22 Feb 1945, 702AAR combat Diary. Based on the eventual out come these sourcee aand eyewitness accounts are far more accurate than your nazi fantasies

  • @LaughingGravy31 Everything that is in the Bundes Archive is the Librairy of Congress and the US National Archive . We have KT 332, physically in Ft Benning GA, Read Greg Walden's Tigers in the Ardienne ( or the website of the same name) and you will see photos KT, 211, 213, 133, 008, 334,222 all destoyed. This not include the ones abandoned intact such as 204, which GI's drove off (til the engine failed). You don't have the photos but WE do as well as an actual tank

  • @LaughingGravy31 Really not that much of a fan Seen one, touched, one sat inside the cut away of 332 not really impressed by the vehicle, concept, or design

  • @soundslave - Appearance has *nothing* to due with *combat effectiveness* as this unreliable, mechanical rolling gremlin clearly proved.

  • @JohnQuincyAdams1 yep, the germans always tried to rpove their superiority by making machines that were unecessarily complicated. Just look at the Panther, that was surposed to be an eqivalent for the T-34 and it's twice the size.

  • @soundslave - Correct. Towards the latter part of WWII when it was clear that Nazi Germany would be defeated, Hitler became desperate to find a, "super weapon", that would save his rear end and the Tiger II was supposed to be that weapon. It failed, miserably. Most of these never even saw combat as they were broken down so much. What examples weren't broken down ran out of fuel and were abandoned with gas tanks gasping for gasoline.

  • @soundslave and better

  • @soundslave Mr Adams please contact me

  • @ColumbiaRules what?

  • LOL, BAR, couldn't hit a barn with that thing past 200m and it only had a tiny 20 round magazine, not exactly a support weapon is it. I would rather use the mp40, more accurate and lighter to carry, and the Thompson was heavy, inaccurate and out of date.

  • @AngelisMortis01 - You'd do well to do a Search of YouTube using Keywords -> Browning Automatic Rifle. It was a very powerful and effective weapon. Take care.

  • @AngelisMortis01 Thats a lie I own a BAR and in semi mode I could knock your head off at 1000m with the 7.62x63 round and 500m semi. My Kahr arms Thompson M1927 with 100 round mag and machime rather tahn stamped recever would riddle you at 150 meters

  • @ColumbiaRules on the range with a bipod and stock rest, the BAR is accurate, but most were removed in the field to reduce weight, and it them became a very heavy and inaccurate shoulder fired automatic weapon with only a 20 round mag. 150 yard range with the Thompson is very respectable, the early forged receivers give a better range than the later stamped ones.

  • Lovely looking baby , pretty nice being restored !!! What happened with its Maybach engine , does it still runs ?

  • I could only imagine how fast front would have been collapsed if Americans were Easternfront in a position of German Wehrmacht.

  • @Adleri I can American Victory in 1944

  • @ColumbiaRules

lol soviets would have wiped them out. US troops Hardly even beated badly mauled germans with airsuperiority on western front.
