hi Paul. so many of dylan's song were just so RIGHT, that i felt he channeled them more than wrote them. this one included. it is a timeless message that was probably true in every country through the ages. i very much like your rock solid performance and the little change up guitar flourish near the end. fine choice, fine performance. be well friend, chuck.
A fine cover Paul. It's good that a song dating quite a while back, and one of Dylan's lesser-known, is remembered and valued.
(As an extreme amateur, I've tried playing this down at our pub jam but it's difficult to compete against an upbeat dance groove in the next bar.... but no-one can deny the power of this song. I have scrawled on my lyric sheet: "Play this as a DIRGE". That doesn't mean it's dreary, but that it's relentless and undeniably bleak. That last line...).
I was looking for your new upload and came across this one- I don't remember listening to it before, but I'm glad I stumbled upon it...! Great Dylan cover! I might have to give that one a shot - right in my range and fairly easy chord progression!!...LOL...
great song, good performance. by the way, north country blues isn't a traditional song. Dylan deliberately immitates the style of the traditional songs, but north country blues was written by bob dylan himself in 1963.
Wow, that sure is a terrific and powerful song Paul! You did a super job of singing and playing it too! These mining songs always get to me... what a tough and scary job that is. Really enjoyed this one Paul, excellent work! ... FrAnK (★★★★★)
These songs are not in vain. They have their effect. A wise ass reporter once asked Dylan, "Who do you think you are?" He wisely replied, quite truthfully, "A trapeze artist".
It does seem, as you say, that history is repeating itself. I guess there are lessons in it for us. Your voice and guitar style suit this song well. 5*
Here's another one. Maybe you could do a cover on that one as well. It stuck with me more than WW Guthrie's line "... you sit in your college to buy your degree ..." (whew! glad I dropped out!) and that line by Dylan is: ".. you who philosophize disgrace and criticize all fears, take the rags away from your face, now ain't the time for your tears..." it went something like that.
dylan is such a trip. hundred of songs without getting into a rut. they sound different from each other, different styles, telling stories, not making sense at all, joy, and anger. this was a serious side. it served a purpose. you chose well and performed well. thanks for the welcome posting, chuck.
Hi Paul! This is a great song to cover and you did it perfectly! Amazing job you done on this. You sureley deserve 5 million glittering stars and i´m sending love and hugs from Austria - Sharine

That one line has reverberated in my mind for forty-three years: "... where the miners work practically for nothing.."
There are answers. We just haven't gotten there yet. It has to happen on the grass-roots level; the guys upstairs get bought off too easily.
