  • Hi, that looks so delicious. When I make mine, for some reason, sometimes some of the rice grains stay hard as if they aren't done cooking. I don't know why. I let the juices simmer down before I lower the heat and put the lid over the pot then I let it cook for at least an hour covered and on low heat. I think somehow I must be getting the water/rice ratio wrong. I enjoyed watching your video though:)

  • wow

  • Finally made this today to compliment my pernil. Not bad for an Irish-American guy. lol

Thanks for your video- it helped immensely, my 10yr old thinks I am a great cook!

  • I like to cook the rice for 45 minutes on a low temp after the water has evaporated.

  • Great video.

  • @MaKeUpByMaRiSoL LOL i' from the US Virgin Islands and were are right net to Puerto Rico and i've been around the PR folks who cook this. Being that now our islands are now a melting pot, we have both black and PR people here using that same pot and cooking this often :) thanks for the recipe because i never learned to cook it myself.

  • @nickyejay09 You goddamn right! YEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!! Thumbs up peoples if you agree!

  • Wow Mari, no tocino, no manteca (to fry the rice), and a packet of PRE-MADE, rather than home made sofrito!? Shame on you; what would abuelita say? :)

  • @Esco1979 abuelita would make me throw it out lol i know. i didnt have time to make my own sofrito which is always best and i didnt hve tocino ;(

  • @MaKeUpByMaRiSoL I love how you cooked this!!! everytime i try to make arroz con gandulez it just doesnt come out right. But after watching this, I feel confident lol. gonna head to the store to get the onion that I for got right now!!! thanks !!

  • @ClassyLatinBeauty thank u for watching =0)

  • My mother in law tried to teach me and i do everything right but i can't get it to come out good my problem is i think i water cause she doesnt measure the water cause she has made it for so many years so i never knew the accurate amount to put in and it would always come out too hard or soggy so i am gonna try this i am so excited because it will save me so much money cause my 3 1/2 year old daughter loves this and i always have to go somewhere a buy hopefully when i try it will work! :)

  • @rnbstephanie908 when i first learned this recipe i had the same problem with the water. the key is to make sure you are not leaving to much liquid in ur pot before adding ur water. Also get to know your pot and weather its one tht needs more water or not. i wouldnt recommend you throw in ur gandules in with the liquid. rinse them and remove the water. That way when u add your two cups of water it wont be soggy. if you see tht you have added too much water. do one of two things..

  • @rnbstephanie908 either add more rice or put the heat on high so it can quickly boil the water down. Good luck =0)
