Im almost positive Steve didnt create Pixar. Im pretty sure he bought it out before going back to apple (Still CEO of NeXT) and then Apple bought NeXT and Jobs went back, making Pixar and Apple partnering companies. I may be wrong though.
I like all the Apple references they have - In Toy Story 3, Woody uses a Mac to find out how to get home. In this film, you've got the iPod and Mac startup sound, and I presume there are more in other films.
The main reason that was put in was likely as a nod to not only the fact Jobs (the prick that he is for ripping off Wozniak who was his best friend at the time) founded Pixar and Apple but as a small joke so that parents taking their kids to this movie would have a good laugh/big ass smile. This sound isn't used in OSX, just the real Macs to my knowledge.
They didn't have to pay much for it. Steve Jobs started Apple and Pixar. Pixar uses Macs to make everything, anyway. I'm sure all Apple had to do was ask.
when i first heard it,i thought it was a sound effect. Then,i bought my macbook pro and heard the same sound but wasnt sure whut it is.then, when i watched wall e again,I KNEW IT!!!HE IS A MAC!!
didn't noticed this before, until couple days ago my daughter said to me when i booted up my mac ' daddy, wall-e sounds just like your computer ' ... didn't knew that our favourite little robot running MAC OS :-)
I didn't notice when I saw it in theaters, and when I saw these videos on the Internet, I thought it was just editing. Later when we watched it in school, I noticed it and I was the only one who noticed that it was the Mac bong(chime, bleep, bang, bash, boot sound).

All Macs from about 1995-1997 had this sound. From 1997 to today they have a slightly lower one. WALL-E is suppose to look older in here.
It is the best sound.
