I am a Christian - pastor, actually. And I think this is a really really silly comment for several reasons:

1. No such thing as a "Christian" country. All people and all countries are opposed to God because of our sinful nature and our desire to elevate humanity and human power above God. The countries that are supposedly Christian are western countries who may appear Christian, but they have sins of pride and all other sins just like "non-Christian" countries.

2a. This comment makes the implicit claim that God somehow blesses Christians over non-Christians in manmade sporting events. I don't doubt the fact that God does bless people, but this argument only works if there really is a completely Christian team playing against a completely non-Christian team. What happens when two supposedly Christian countries play each other? Who does God bless and who does God choose?

2c. The real work of God is in bringing glory to Himself and saving souls. I am not denying the fact that a public display at a sporting event brings glory to God. It certainly does. I am also not saying that God doesn't use public displays like that to save people. He certainly has before. What I am saying is that deciding who wins or loses World Cup is probably not high on the list of God's priorities. Glorifying His Name and saving people are.

3. The reason that supposedly Christian nations have won World Cup is because Football was invented by Western countries. When was the last time England won a Sepak Takraw tournament? To say that this has to do with God is like saying that the Shinto religion is superior because the Japanese consistently win olympic gold in Judo. It has nothing to do with religion and everything to do with the fact that Judo originated in Japan.

@Fiorentina222 Well football has been established as a national sport in the Christian countries of Europe and the Americas for best part of 100 years, and probably only half that in the middle east and other muslim nations.

Egypt are the most successful country in the African Cup of Nations and they are a muslim nation. I don't think the religion has much to do with it, but the talent of the players.
