Mau Marcelo was the best during grand finals ng Star For a Night (competing with Sarah Geronimo & Mark Bautista among others). One of the reasons why Sarah G. won is for such a young woman at that time (she was either 14 or 16 yrs old then), she had a very mature sounding voice. The judges were in awe as to how much move her voice would develop as she gets older. Add to that Sarah's very Filipina / wholesome looks.
Mas marketable kc si Sarah so they let her win, yan ang kalakaran sa showbiz entirely, u need good looks and talent w/c sucks. ang galing kc nya sayang, in my opinion she sings better no offense

I think this video showed how Mau has improved as a performer during her idol stint. Back then, she's a great singer but she lacks the attitude for her to sing the song... there are differences between sarah's performance and mau's performance. first about sarah is the attitude that was built during that night, fesh na fresh and maganda ang arrangements na ginawa para skanya... and sya pa pinakahuling kumanta amongst 11 contenders... maybe, the only problem kay Mau kaya ndi xa nananalo is the fact the she was already married and may anak xa na debit sakanya un.. un lang.. pero at least nagtagpo ulit cla,, sarah as the pop princess and mau as the philippine idol..

Very touching rendition. Indeed, has a distinct voice of her own. She can belt the song yet without you feeling or hearing vocal acrobatics like common/popular belter singers we have now. While you are listening, you are emotionally dragged to the song itself not to the singer. Of international caliber really!!!

This song is really more jazz inspired than soul. I would've liked to hear less grunting. That would bring out the smoothless of her voice as her tempo and delivery was excellent.

The reason why mark and bautista and sarah geronimo won during the star for a night contest is that they had been chosen way before the contest proper. The contest was just for their exposure. Sadly that had been a business move. Every singing contest in abs cbn and gma are always predetermined specially at abs cbn sobra ang pulitika...tsk tsk...

I think this video showed how Mau has improved as a performer during her idol stint. Back then, she's a great singer but she lacks the attitude for her to sing the song... Kulang sa angas.. when I compare this to her Idol performances, I can say that she has grown as a singer. Good luck Mau on the Asian Idol competition!

Mau is simply one of the best and one of my favorites. don't care bout the looks, her life off cam, i just simply love her performing on stage. she sang this item better than the original. she sounded like a foreign singer. very very good... love it, love her...

there are differences between sarah's performance and mau's performance. first about sarah is the attitude that was built during that night, fesh na fresh and maganda ang arrangements na ginawa para skanya... and sya pa pinakahuling kumanta amongst 11 contenders... maybe, the only problem kay Mau kaya ndi xa nananalo is the fact the she was already married and may anak xa na debit sakanya un.. un lang.. pero at least nagtagpo ulit cla,, sarah as the pop princess and mau as the philippine idol..

well, a person can really improve.. look at mau now, she won the phil idol.. and her voice is just way way better than her star for a night days.. in this video she can easily be defeated by a nice performance.. ang nipis pa ksi ng boses nya dito..

yeah she way better than sarah diction is her only problem at that time but with a little polishing and training she can do well. sarah's performance was just a second rate copycat version of celine dion shes just lucky that mau made a mistake during that nyt. well good riddens to her.

I remember this! Kala ng friend ko nagcoconcert sa Pinas ang orig singer ng Better Days. Hehe! I wanted her to win Star for a Night (before I saw Sarah who really, truly rocked the house para sa mga hindi nakapanood ng grand finals na kumpleto). ok naman si Mau. She needs to improve her diction pero naaaral naman yon with some training. Good luck, Mau!

just this song alone proved that Mau was better than Sarah, it just so happened that the judges prefered Birit singing style when in fact, Mau's song was more challenging that she even Regine can not sing this song that good as Mau did.

Very touching rendition. Indeed, has a distinct voice of her own. She can belt the song yet without you feeling or hearing vocal acrobatics like common/popular belter singers we have now. While you are listening, you are emotionally dragged to the song itself not to the singer. Of international caliber really!!!

@maimay06 the original artist of Better Days is Diane Reeves if I'm not mistaken. Mau really claimed the song to be her own.She incorporated her own style with matching grrr sound....
