We're saying its slower because this is a drag strip only setup car. The vette is a supercar that can handle pretty much any track, and its a factory road legal car. I don't think this was meant for the road, of course this video is old and my comment a little late but the vette and this car are 2 completely different monsters.

11s, kinda slow compared to the scj mustang and copo camaros that are out this year. The Z06 and ZR1 vettes can run 10s with slicks. I would like to see chrysler tweak these things for the '12 model year.

It's a drag car. Straight axles are better at drag racing than IRS due to the contact patch and suspension characteristics. This one wasn't meant to go around corners.

They were letting press guys (like Edmund's) drive this car they didn't want inexperienced drivers blow it up w/ a missed shift or worse, wreck it. So they had an auto trans w/ a rev limiter set at a low RPM (you could hear the rev limiter at the end , so the Edmunds driver wasn't watching the tach) so they wouldn't break it. Note: this was shot in 2007 way before the Challengers were available to the public.

392 ccui, with 10 + compression. is a lot you could still do to this engine and the body and suspension to make this thing fly, but it would not be a super stock..11 sec with that heavy body and wheel spin is a great time, i had a 1970 duster with a 440 cui, street on pump gas go 10.20 on mufflers. drove it to work everyday, with some tweeking and some mods and a diet this challenger could do 9s easily.

the new nissan GTR did need 11.7 seconds at the test and it has got around 500Hp at much less weight

the Z06 is rated at mid 11 seconds with also 500Hp and with less weight, too.

this concept car runs low to mid 11 seconds with MUUUUUUUUCH more weight than a Z06 or a GTR though it has about the same figure of Hp.

Aren't hemi engines the ultimate? My new 2009 Challenger R/T runs 12 seconds on the factory tires so it seems I'm doing pretty good. Of course I opted for the automatic cause it's faster than the manual.

yo dude i had automatic duster 440 cui, 10 inch torq converter that would hold the car at 4700rpm, when i let go of that brake and fully stomp on the gas pedal the car was in the air. we use to drive stick back in the 70s all muscle cars had to have a stick shift trani, but lots of new tricks for the automatics started to show by the 80s and it was great, the bigest factor was the torque convertors..

you buy it from dealers (about 40 K) and it is showroom ready to race in over 55 events a year all over the bation.

it is NOT a street car - and weighs 900 lbs less than a street version. (about 3200 lbs).

I did read the '08 car guide and it stated that there will be teo engine options, 5.7 HEMI and 6.1 HEMI. And there will be a 5-speed auto and a 6-speed manual. I did read the article on "all of the Challengers will be orange/black stripes, 6.1 HEMI and AUTO". Hopefully, we are wrong and the '08 car guide is right!

Very nice, but some of you need to remember that no matter what you are driving there is always someone faster, albeit a chevy, ford, or mitsubishi. 11 second 1.4 mile is no joke, but that will never make the streets in stock trim. Sure does look good though =)
