  • Has your relationship strengthened between you and your husband a year later ? What are his reactions to your transformation?

  • I been watching all your videos the last 2 hours. I am scheduled for a gastric on March 1st and I have diabetes, high cholestrol, copd, asthma, diabetic nueropathy so I do not walk very well but I can walk a little, ddd and spinal stenois. if I do not get my weight off , it will kill me. I like how positive you are. I know my risks and I am willingly to risk them to have a chance at walking and living again. I have battled my whole live with weight and you are inspiration.

  • I am so glad you made the decision to be healthy, and yes this is a decision. Many will judge you but you only have yourself to blame or entrust your health to. I am happy, healthy and active. It is worth it

  • You are a total inspiration! I have a question. My freinds and family are in total support of me gettiing the bypass. Except my mother! Did you have "everyone" in support?? thank you

  • how do i follow your videos? I get old ones new ones. i am new to youtube.thanks

  • i can't stop watching your vids! i hope i wind up with a body looking like yours lol. i have a long ways to go! you rock!

  • omg i looooove that dress. Toooo cute.

  • Hey, are you going to show us a shot of how your belly is healing? It must feel really great to buy cute clothes and have so many more options. I can't wait to be out of the Plus sizes.

    Rayvin

  • You look great Amelia and thank you for sharing your journey with us.

    Sal

  • Amelia, thanks for answering the question about the vertical incision and also, thank you to Dr. Suber for his comments. I work for a general surgeon and any time I can learn more about different approaches to surgery, this is of great interest! Amelia, I am sure that Staples has missed you and will be happy to see you return. With your smile and personality, I am sure that you are a great asset to the company. One day, I hope to be able to shop at Victoria's Secret!

  • hey amelia!!! i have a question for Dr. Suber. i know this sounds reeeeally weird, but is it a possibility that the stitched up skin might.... you know.... tear?

  • You need to reply to his comment for him to see it, but i am not stitched up I was glued together.

  • Wound healing problems can happen. They're generally higher in the massive weight loss patient, and higher in patients who have diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, etc...things that affect blood flow. A plastic surgeon experienced in this surgery knows how to minimize (but not negate) the risks. This is a very rare event in my hands. Scar & healing outcome = surgeon's skill w/ the closure + the patient's inherited wound healing traits.

  • i want to tell you that i have watched all of your videos and love them! I am going to have the surgery done at the end of jan. What you weighed and your height and age are real close to mine. Your videos have gave me allot of information and hope that this is the right choice for me! Love the dress and you are awsome!

  • Hi Ameila.. Ive been watching your videos and Im a fan. I know this is an odd question... but is it easier to shave your legs now? Since your tummy is all gone.. didnt know if it was easier to bend over and things.

    Thanx

    Rachael

  • Oh god yes, it is easier to do everything and shaving my legs is kinda a treat now. I feel so small in my tub

  • Wow, looking gorgeous Amelia. GOOD NEWS, finally got a surgery date, 12/15/08 for the RYN. Thanks for sharing, I have learned so much. Kat

  • Congrats!!!! At least you get one last Thanksgiving! Tear it up! LOL

  • Your clearly not the smartest match in the box. So why you hanging out here spouting crap? Hmmm let me guess a bit jealous maybe? Go back to simon says, there missing you.

  • Amelia, I just love you. You are so great!!! I finally got to schedule my first string of appointments. Which is so exciting. I'm toying with the idea of making a vid myself but I don't really have much to talk about yet anyway....

  • Do it anyway. you need a before to appreciate the after. No fear, just do it!

  • Fantastic!! Your plastic surgeon commented..Thanks Amelia and Dr.Suber. You look fantastic, glad you are feeling good, and enjoy having the GUYS lift everything!

  • Hi Ameila!

You are soooooooooooooo tiny! What an inspiration.. I just watched the video from when you were really sick at the hotel the night before surgery.

I am still waiting RNY approval. I keep watching your videos so I have a better understanding of what lies ahead of me. I really appreciate your videos!

    Elisabeth ~

  • looking really good, nice dress, take care

  • hi i think you look great. I have followed all your videos.I am 2months out and feeling that even though Ive lost about 45pds. that i am still heavy I dont think in my mind that i will ever get to be a normal size. I was 303 at my heaviest and now about 248 everyone says they see the weight loss but i dont I still wear all my old clothes even though they are too big. I feel like lossing weight is like lossing myself. did you go through this too??

  • Though I always tighten the muscle on my abdominoplasty patients, not all plastic surgeons do. You must ASK about this. Some will not offer the vertical incision even if there is excess tissue there to take out via that method. Again, ASK your plastic surgeon about this.

  • In my hands, muscles are always tightened regardless of horizontal vs. horz & vertical. Looking at Amelia's specimen pic, note the triangle of skin at the top of the "manta-ray" shape(above the navel hole). This is the extra taken out with the vertical incision in her case and would have remained on her had we done horizontal alone.

Everyone is different & pt. can always "veto" the vertical incision, but most prefer to get all the tissue out possible. Some don't need the vertical, however.

  • Dr. Suber here. Great video series.

The vertical incision is a good option for massive wt. loss patients (always pt. choice...she can always go w/ horizontal alone).

It removes more skin from the back and sides than horizontal incision alone. The incision almost always is paper thin and difficult to see after healing. The dark color in early pics is due to the skin glue placed over incision & not permanent.

Happy to ans questions: Dr.Suber@SuberMD[dot]com .See also website: SuberMD[dot]com

  • Thanks Dr. Suber!

  • Your dress is something that I would LOVE to have...eventually....maybe next year....Oh I hope so! But you make the dress look amazing. How does it feel to actually buy a dress like that and LOOK GREAT IN IT? Show us more stuff that you buy please cause right now I want to dream.

  • Sweet dress Amiela.U've done an "OUTSTANDING JOB GIRL!!"I know I'm not family & we've only discussed things over youtube.I hope w/ time we can become good friends.Wish some people would understand what Gastric bypass surgery is & stop w/ the negative remarks. No matter you've accomplished alot!!I'm glad blueyesshining spoken up.We here @ home certainly hope to see more of you & whenever your mom gets hers set up lets us know please. I would love to add her my friends. Take care keep safe always

  • You look marvelous darling ;)

  • Whew... I haven't researched TTs yet (pre op band here) but it's been a thought in the back of my mind. I was hoping the vertical cut wasn't a normal part of it.

I need to shop in your area!! Stores in my area seem to think keeping prices high will generate revenue.

  • you look so cute girl !!!

  • cute dress and Im so proud of you, you have done awesome job. Been awhile since I have seen vids so Im gonna have to catch up lol.

  • She hasnt done much though, she went to get a surgery to loose weight... But it is good for her that shes gotten to where she is :)!

  • totally, I didn't eat healthy from scratch foods for a year, lift weights or exercise...oh wait i did.

  • Im guessing getting surgery is the hard way? not the way i lost over 30 kgs? nearly 35-40 kg of fat? with only diet and excersise?!

  • go away....hater.

  • Im not a damn hater, im commenting a comment that said this is impressive and has been hard!

If you get the surgery your taking the easy way out, which is not a BAD thing in itself... But its nothing to be particulary proud of!

  • My comment was for Massagegoddess not for you to make ugly comments of how she has lost we know how she did this and apparently you haven't been watching for long to know we have all been watching her thru this process and we have no ugly comments for her. So don't reply to my comment telling me anything you don't understand hawtnesszz.

  • Thanks babe, shake the haters off! LOL

  • um, excuse me? getting surgery is a hell of a lot harder than dieting the traditional way. you're FORCED not to eat junk and FORCED to eat smaller portions. you throw up. you get things stuck. it's an emotional roller coaster. you CAN'T give up like on a diet because you had your guts molested. not to mention the decision to get the surgery is the hardest part of all.

you need to read a book and get informed.

  • Thanks babe!

  • I can't express how stupid that remark makes you look. It is apparent you have no idea what many people go through. That is an example of the ignorance of many people that do not understand differences in the metabolism of individual. You had it easy (this time), the surgery is much more difficult than you can imagine. Your arrogance is only exceeded by your ignorance. Your insight is neither appreciated nor wanted.

  • Aww. Dad, don't worry about haters. I already blocked her and deleted the truely awful things she said. Love ya!

  • I love the dress, you look super cute!

you sound like you live by me, lol.... it snowed here a couple weeks ago and has been warm as heck since. I love it! And I'm in Cleveland, we usually don't get treated to weather like this in November. I bet this means it'll snow until May. Booooo.

  • Fun stuff! Love the dress :o)

  • you sooo rock. I might have to have you take me to TJ Maxx when I am there LOL. And that dress is soooo cute!! Love it. See you next week! woot woot ~ Nicol

  • Its a date!

  • i think it'd help your viewers a lot more if you told them you had the panniculectomy with a hernia repair instead of abdominoplasty (a tummy tuck). people would stop asking questions after they googled that procedure instead of the abdominoplasty procedure. panniculectomies always have a vertical incision. abdominoplasties don't. insurance is different for both. tummy tucks aren't covered. what you had is covered. i'm not trying to be snarky. i just want your fans to know and quit questioning.

  • ps. i think that dress is really cute. you should wear it next week!

  • I may, I have 3 days to wear different stuff

  • Check the comments on this vid again, my surgeon responded and called it an abdomnioplasty. Your not snarky cutie :) I know you want to help

  • Oops! Not quite right. The incision used has nothing to do with "panniculectomy" vs "abdominoplasty." Historically, the "panniculectomy" involves only the removal of excess skin and fat, not muscle tightening (according to 2006 and before CPT coding guidelines). This could be horz or anchor incision.

The vert. incision has only to do with "side to side" excess of skin & fat that may be present.

  • No doubt, though, that the terms are confusing and somewhat vague. "Abdominoplasty"= "reshaping of the abdomen (tummy)"; "panniculectomy" = removal of the pannus (extra tummy tissue). See the confusion? I do. There's potental overlap here. A plastic surgeon can explain in detail, at the time of your exam, how these terms apply to any operative plan (custom designed for you the patient).

  • You are so sweet to help me out here. Feel free to comment on any video. Everyone in this community is hungry for advice and info.

  • Em, I've got this fat tumor under my arm in my pit area. I call it a fat potato. I can grab it and it feels like a solid soft rock of fat tissue.

Did that go away when you dieted down to your weight, or do I have to have it cut out?

  • My armpits are like a deep emty valley, i had relatively small arms because of massage. i don't have the usual amount of excess skin there

  • This could be a lipoma (benign fatty tumor). If it is, it'll have to be excised to get rid of it. If it's not, then a lot of it may go away with further weight loss. Time will tell...as will an exam by a plastic surgeon when you're at your goal weight. Good luck!

  • Wow girl..cute dress; you look between 18 and 20 years old. Its amazing what losing wt can do for your age. you look like you could be the daughter of the woman you use to be heavy. Amazing.

  • it is wild. I was at Joel's work for family day back on October 4th and I startyed talking to a lady while waiting for a ride and she asked me "So.. does your Dad work here?" I was so tickled. I love feeling my age. i was feeling 45 before

  • People have always thought I was much older than I am too. When I was 10 a woman came to the door and asked if my husband was home! lol

It is going to be the greatest when the day comes that I can fit into some cute little clothes like that. I can't wait to go shopping! You look great! :)

  • A - I'm on my list to have RNY in Jan...you have answered so many questions! God Bless you and your work! I'm guessing that missing some foods is worth it? Advice?

  • I don't miss anything that I don't eat. I enjoy food more now than I ever did. Seriously.. if you go off sugar and fat for a good while... the old greasy stuff you are used to tatses like junk.

  • Did your surgeon tighten your abdominal muscles during the surgery? You look really cute in the dress.

  • yep, tighned the snot out of them LOL, I still scream when I sneeze!

  • Forgive me if you've mentioned it before but do you still use c-pap for sleep?

PS: You look so amazingly gorgeous!

  • yeah, but I don't NEED it, I am just so soothed by it, kinda like a signal for my body to just fall asleep

  • You look fantastic! Good job on all of it!

  • The anchor cut is the way to go if you have lots of skin and back fat. It looked like he did a great job! Congrats Amelia. Tom

  • You are hot and look great!

  • um yes! I have been going thru the Victoria Secret catalogue making mental notes of everything I want to buy once I am out of my surgery!!!

  • Your hair looks great!!! So glad your happy with your surgery. Looking forward to needing that procedure. Congradulations!!

  • hey i know i bother you with my comments and questions, but didnt u have a tattoo? if so did they go around it?

  • I have one on my lower back, they didn't cut my back and i have one on my ankle
