  • Neil is for sure the Jewish Elvis. What a blessing he has been in our lifetime.

  • fantastic. beautiful. But, it's sad to see him now. Maybe he's bored, but he....tries too hard. It's like watching someone else trying to sing his songs.

  • Marvellous, amazing, fantastic, wonderful song!!! I've got a daughter who just have ben operated last night, thanks God succesfully. Though I always loved this song, now hearing it again, makes my eyes real wet.

  • @kikegrellaud hope all is well -- Neil's songs seem to soothe everything - not matter what we go through.

  • Wow! I hear Neil's beautiful voice and music and I'm grateful he didn't go on to become a doctor!

  • Yeah, Neil's the best alright , to me he is the most wonderous of the singers of the

the world...Thanks for this geat video, love to Neil and all those people who love

    him too....

  • This song is very nice

    Thsnks

  • I searched this song because in the video for "bullets in the gun" by toby keith you can see this is one of the choices on the jukebox at one point in the video

  • my favorite song all songs...love it

  • Does it get any better than this?

  • @biyohi No way! Neil´s the best

  • Such a beautiful romantic song.

  • my God that was pretty

  • I was very happy to hear this, thank you for posting it. I was thinking 'Stones' is not on 'Hot August Night'. I didn't know that it was one of the bonus track on the 2000 reissue. Thanks!

  • A pretty song.

  • Thank you for postuing this beautiful song, and beatiful vid.

  • Being lost is worth the coming home

  • What a great version of this song! Thanks. Neil is always fabulous, but especially when he sings softly. How romantic and beautiful.

  • CONGRATULATIONS, NEIL....'bout time Hall of Fame woke up! Thanks for your unforgettable impact' on all our lives. You are the best !

  • This is a beautiful video, so sweet. Thank you boogie2w for sharing this with us. You did a remarkably good job with the photos and the words. I loved the photo of Neil with his family near the end, "and being lost is worth the coming home." I've always imagined this to be about his returning home after a tour. Such a sweet song.

  • "She would ache for love and get but stones". It' s just about a girl who gets no love but has a man keen to give it to her and she may not know about him "a good day's coming and I'll be there to let the sun in". "Stones would make her bed" just means that she sleeps unhappily every night. Nothing grows in stones and he's about to change it. Such a great song.

  • @blackynth

As I understand it, Stones are things that hurt, and the woman hurt every night for love and this would play on her mind and also prevail at night as she had no love and ached to feel loved and be loved. the second verse tells of her finding love, a truly brilliant song and this version stands out.

  • Congratulations to Neil on his induction into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame !! Way to go, Solitary Man !!

  • Wonderful!!

  • I loved this song as a child, I'm 43, but what does stones mean?

  • AHHHHHH!!!! LOVE IT!!

  • This song is from the Hot August Night album 1972, great stuff

  • great song ,my babe is bipolar.

  • My fav Neil Diamond song...... Love the lyric, "And being lost, is worth the coming home"....

  • his own station on xm would be a dream!

  • Beautiful!

  • Beautiful Man..Beautiful Music...Beautiful Noise!

  • @teacrazymama so right my friend so right, cheers

  • I am a 45 year old white male "tough guy" I love various music from hard rock to today's rap to Elvis but let me tell you Neil Diamond is probably the greatest songwriter, singer, performer I have ever heard. I can listen to him all day. Hopefully he will have his own channel on Sirius/XM just like Bruce and Elvis has. He so deserves it.

    Beautiful, intelligent music.

  • @rmelio1 cheers my brother so well said

  • @rmelio1 I agree with you 100%

  • what can i say? this song has brought me through some very hard times. it still moves me to tears...PEACE/LOVE

  • He is so blessed with talent.

  • Jolie mélodie

  • Great Song

  • He was always on tour - never with her when she needed him the most. She won 150 million dollars - all he asked for was his songs and their rights. It is sad.

  • i love blue song always.

  • Just wanted to say that you have a lot of real good vid's of Neil's and this is one of my fav's - did a great job with the black and white slide show. Alyce V

  • "Stones" is a metaphore for a delicate subject especialy in the seventies.

Okay so it's probably T.M.I. but here goes.

The song is about a young lady who gets alot of "male" ="stones" attention. Inside her head and in her bed. But still she aches for LOVE. She is being USED but not being LOVED. He is coming to love her and make a family with her.

  • @honypoboy - Well whaddayaknow?! I think you figured it out! Sure makes sense now! I'm kinda glad I was oblivious back then. Thanks for your insight!

  • @honypoboy Wow! Excellent. Never really got it from that point of view..but I think you are spot on.

  • @garymichael1950 So much of the music that was written during the 70'S and 80's

were written with this same method of "deeper meaning" withing the lyrics.

The FCC had a real impact back then.

  • He was at his best during this time. I admit I sometimes get lost in his looks and sound and don't focus much on lyrics that aren't straightforward... so what the heck does he mean about 'stones inside her head and making her bed'???

  • @SierraJude I thought Stone's were used to represent pain that he felt during his breakup with his first wife, that is why it is rarely sung in concert.

  • Thanks.....smaili......im very appreciate it...

  • DEDICATED TO MY LOVELY INKY ..

  • the matter is Neil is a composer of hits, it's not the case with Elvis, though I'm his fan, always been. But you got to give the devil his due, Neil is a great songwriter, he wrote Sweet Caroline

  • being lost is worth the coming home.

  • @tgpil321 YES!

  • sounds amazing live too.. waht a guy

  • Awesome song have not heard this in so long brings back great memories <3

  • Neil is the greatest.... This is him at his best. Thank you for this. Well done.

  • +6Dont believe he has ever made a bad recoeding one of the greatest entertainers of the century

  • That confused me when you said it was from 'Hot August Night'. It is but not the original 'Hot August Night'. It is on the Remastered/Expanded from 2000 or 2002. 'Stones' was released in 1971 but on the album called 'Stones'. This is a great live version, love it!

  • si ascolta e apprezza INTERAMENTE solo se si è presenti direttamente alla esecuzione. Neil ascoltato sui dischi ha dato prove PIù CONVINCENTI ed entusiasmanti di questo brano.

  • this is the favourite song of my dad(L)

  • God Only Knows is also a brilliant cover by Neil , originally by the Beach boys.

  • Favourite Diamond song, plus this is the best version i've heard. My mum is a massive fan, and i grew up listening to this music from a child. Finally got tickets in the UK a few years ago and took my mum to see him in Sheffield. Absolutely brilliant! I like ACDC, Led Zep, Oasis, Sex Pistols, but i put the Diamond up there as the best.........work that one out LOL!

  • You always hear about "Top Ten Albums" compilations and people's favourite 10 albums etc..Well, in my opinion, any serious list should include Hot August Night. It inspired so many remakes and so many artists that it's inumerable. If not a top ten album of all time, then at least one of the Top 5 most influential.

And that is coming from someone who isn't a 'big' Neil Diamond fan, but my respect for his musical skill and artistry is deep without question.

  • incredible-as most everything he has done --has been.

  • A beautiful version, thanks for uploading it. I love this song and added my version as a video response :)

  • Oh, this is wonderful! I get to hear his wonderfully timeless handsome voice, see pictures of his wonderfully handsome face and (while trying to be quiet in the library) squeal my head off! By the way, is the pic at 3:08/3:09 really Neil? And who is he sitting with at 3:15?!?*flames of jealousy* I'M A BELIEVERRR!!

  • Speaking of "I Think It's Going To Rain Today", does anyone have that song that they can please upload? I haven't heard that song in so many years. I worship Neil Diamond, and I used to have the album with that track on it, but alas.... with moving over the many years I no longer have it. Can someone please find that song and upload on YouTube? Thank you so much!

  • @jarilima it's on youtube since 2 years now!

Randy Newman regards neils version at his best performance!

  • Brilliant! Thank You.

  • Wonderful! Thank you! One of ND most brilliant songs, but they are so many many.

  • I've never fully understood the lyrics. Would love to ask him.

  • Like Professor Leo said, "ENJOY! Don't analyze!" Check him out here Dr. Biscilia (SP) and I do not work or get paid for this.

  • i would love if neil would sing stones and glory road live during live concerts/dvd this is two of many wonderfull songs

  • Probably should have played this one instead of I am .. I said at my old mans funeral !! Both are excellent & ND is genius

  • what a beautilful song, written and sung by a great performer, thank you neil for being my friend.

  • the "table" song is called "morningside"

    love it!

  • I like many songs from Neil Diamond. But ones I heard a song from him about a table that they erned from there father. It is a wonderfull text. But I don't know the title from that song. Is there anyone in this world who knowes wich song I mean?

  • @beanfromex yup, mellow and yummy! L)

  • When I was four I was singing "Shilo" at the top of my lungs every weekend at my grandparents house. I begged for the Hot August Night album and then wore it out listening to him talk about "trees in the sky". By the time I was old enough to not entirely despise boys, I was in love. Then life happened and, a few years later, I might not have recognized his name.

Many years later I heard this song and fell in love all over again. A song that can make you fall in love and break your heart.

  • You know how guys will say that they've lived "Solitary Man"? From the first time I heard this one I knew it was "my" life.

  • So many great songs.....

  • what can i say he's amazing....

  • agreed

  • otra gran cancion de NEIL DIAMOND,UNA VOZ GENIAL.

  • words cannot say how much pleasure this guy gives in his music

  • Nice...really, really, nice. Neil Diamond is one of a kind.

Thank you...this brought me back to a time when men could be sensitive without fear of not being considered a man.

Not perfect, but a beautiful time of life.

  • "being lost is wothh the coming home:...*****+

  • Such intensity and sensativity make all of Neils early stuff so impossable to ignore...The pain in his voice, yet underlying strength that makes his music what it is...A message to pick yourself up and move on for better days that lie ahead...

  • tut mir leid aber ich kann den typen nicht ab, aber song ist echt stark.
