  • The Tomato has reopened in Sanger, Tx. Just north of Denton. Same food. Same people. Same attitude. Go see them at 303 Bolivar St Sanger Tx. There's a facebook page too!!

  • dang that is weird lookign fire.. omg thats so sad. all those great memories of the flying tomato.

  • NO way the Flying Tomato caught on fire.. that sucks .... well i am just now hearing about it.

  • My brother troy bolten went there and died u motherfuckers well all the swear words I will kill u dumos if u reply!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @TheMoonraj no one died in this fire."troy bolten fire" does not bring up any hits in google. GTFO, dumbass.

  • I was exactly in that place some 2 moths ago and never knew there had been an amazing fire there.

  • i wonder if they will ever build it up again

  • How was the fire caused?

  • Fry Street, Well Frying! lol

  • That's sad. I went to UNT and remember the Tomato very well. (For a time, I lived on Ponder Street like two blocks from there.) I heard that it burned down, but wasn't there in Denton at that time (I graduated in 2001). From what I hear, Fry Street isn't the same anymore from when I was there. That sucks, too.

  • I'm trying to figure out how the view is from the Delta parking lot though, unless the "new" house had a driveway on Fry Street. This is the driveway from the White House or the Zebra building, isn't it?

  • @james0tucson Its not, this is on Hickory street in front of the UNT Lagrange Lab. Approximately 25 meters West of Fry Street.

  • my family bought some bricks from that building and we got enough to build a walkway with them in front of our house

  • You will not be missed. U will be forgotten lol

  • I get a hardon every time i see this place go u in flames Ahhhhh fuck ya

  • Wasn't stu still managing the place when it burned?

  • I love how all they have done is rip down the building and leave an empty lot with a big friggin mud puddle. CVS, walgreens and starbucks stay the f*** out!!!!!!!!!!!

  • voyagers dream is gone too........ *SIGH*

  • you will be missed tomato... you will be missed...

  • Denton Fire Department doing what they do best !

  • Saw Fry St. For the first time in 5 years, and my heart is broken, all of the businesses in that area are hurting, the coffee shop is gone. Tragic.

  • The best smelling fire ever.

  • Denton, the armpit of texas.

  • Fuck You! Denton was the most kickass little city in Texas. One of the last Texas Cities that had true character instead of the shishi corporate bullshit fake culture.

  • right on

  • your a tool. Denton has more culture than a swab sample of your nasty little butt.

  • god, this was a truly sad day, ill never forget the tomato =(

  • This Sucks I just wrote my name on the walls two days prior were many of the true dentonies left there mark to be apart of history, never will forget. -DJ SWAGGA

  • This was set out of protest to the demolition that was under way.

  • i have lived in denton my hole life and have never heard of that place!

    wher was it?

  • It was located on Fry Street and Hickory, north of the campus of UNT

  • r u effing siriuse? you realize this is Denton ....TEXAS right ? the tomato on Fry st.......helloe ???

  • NEVAR FORGET

  • balls..

  • I noticed the building gone last time I was in Denton, but didn't know it had burned. i was actually driving by to say hi to Ski (and Becky if she was there) I worked at the Flying Tomato in 87-88 or so before working for Mr. Jim's Pizza. Every time I find myself in Denton, I would go by the Tomato and get a slice of the gutbuster for old tymes sake.

As a Fry Street bum from 85 to 90, I remember those years very fondly. You guys have no idea what it was like back in the day.

  • It sais on wikipedia that taylor set this fire, I don't believe it though

  • my first question was, "where are all the cock roaches gonna go?"

  • omg i live in denton texas i never knew abou this

  • think of all the burnt pizzas :(

  • Can't believe it took me so long to watch the videos. either way it would have gone it was still sad to know it won't be there anymore. This was the first place i ate pizza when i entered as a freshman in fall 2002 and that last place i ate pizza as a senior summer 2006. i wish i could hear one more song from that sweet jukebox.

  • fuckin hippies, good riddance.

  • I weep to see this. So much for the good old days....

  • awesome video! did you see our video on the right hand side in the related video section? its titled Denton, TX Arts and Jazz fest Freeze Mob, |UA| United Aid

  • this is crazy! I found out about this right after it happened, but I only had the courage to look at the video until now. I worked there for a good 9 nines months (2002-2003). It was one of the last places I had dinner with my dad before he died :(

I understand why it was burned down, but it could have had a much better ending. . .

Becky and Ski are some of the most innocent and nice people out there, they did not deserve this crap!!

  • YouTube University of North Texas Protest

crazy crazy nonviolent peaceful stuff going on at UNT. YouTube UNT Library Bloody Hands!

  • They should go an burn the rest of Fry street. Do us all a favor.

  • one of my friends was the one who burned it down... lol

  • My old roommate's brother painted the mural that was on the wall in the Tomato. I remember watching a building burn just a block away from there back in about '92 or so. I so loved the Tomato, especially on the weekend.

  • Very sad day for Denton folks who love going to Tomato. I know so many folks including myself who practically grew up here and attended school.

    Go UNT,TWU,NCTC brothers!

  • Jones endgame part 6

    to gecheck this

    you tube

Alex t a view of your future

  • we sould hold a memorial

  • Tear ;-(

  • No it wasn't the owners, it wasn't anarcists, it was a dumbass highschool friend of mine. He was a failed musician, and was hoping to gain some sort of attention through this. We grew up here in Denton and he'd been like that since we were in high school. And don't worry, the dumbass was caught, released on bail, and caught again when he tried to run. Ya. an idiot... He's in jail now for at least a couple years. I miss Tomato too... Best pizza in town.

  • Yep.....used to work there.Ski was my boss. The pizza was alright, BUT there H/C sandwitch was out of this world. this was in '94 mind you. Great jukebox.Shiner on tap.met one of my girlfriends there.

  • Sucked they were going to tear it down, but we got a pretty good free show out of it I guess

  • lol i never been to the tomatoe on frys street. man. people form university of north texas i bet were pissed off

  • Long live The Tomato!

  • Thats so sad i loved that place.

  • The first time I went there was with my bestfriend Adam when he was at UNT.. The years later my husband and daughters lived there and I am totally SHOCKED!!! It was a Denton landmark and a pretty cool place to get cheap beer and okay pizza...

  • man...i use to eat there. crazy.

  • my dad is a firefighter and he was there

  • i'm glad it came down by the people and not a corporation. thats the way it should be.

  • I'll bet the owners did it for insurance claims.

When you say "by The People", do you mean anarchists?

    Corporations provide opportunity and peace.

  • The Tomato is now on the square. Two blocks -> That way. However...CVS will need to clean a whole lot of burnt shit out of their way for that corner spot

    Fuckin' corporations...

  • I'll have the blackened chicken pizza please.....

  • For anyone who grew up in Denton-Flying Tomato was a right of passage. We all couldn't wait until we hit the 9th-10th grade when our parents said we could go there and for me that was 1984-85. Wow, just look at how long FT has been around. My niece is at that point now, just getting the chance to hang out there with her friends. Too bad they were going to tear it down, even worse it got torched.

  • The proper way to say goodbye. A Funeral Pyre.

  • At 10:08 I was walking to my car right by the the tomoato. I saw a guy in a wheelchair stuck. His wheel was caught on a wire on the fence.I helped him. But no one else was on the Fry St side. He could have seen the whole thing for thew last time.

  • i think its kind of a cool twist to the legend of the tomato. It would have been a different story if someone were hurt. I have to admit it is kinda sad. but at least it shined one last time before white collar got to it. many a times spent there and lots of quarters pumped into that fooz bball table

  • I would just like to say that I hope you were joking about the God's love thing.

  • i think the cops got the asses that did this, i saw three fry rats being arrested last night near the language building

  • id rather see the place that meant so much to everyone go up in flames by fry rats that loved it than torn down slowly by meaningless people.

  • Way to go. They just made it easier for the corporation to put in the CVS. Now they don't have to pay to demolish the building. Thanks, douchebags.

  • Oh but on the contrary, it's going to be harder for them to lay down the foundation and for it to pass inspection...hahaha

  • as far as i have heard, cool beans is fine... it was most likely some stupid disgruntled fry rat. none of us were happy about losing this part of fry street but burning it down isn't saving anything... just think if this had happened last summer when it was so dry and windy- everything would have been gone, including a lot of our homes and probably part of our school. i really hope these jack asses get caught.

  • Yeah because they just made all the genuine protesting sound lunatic and crazy!

  • Right on!

  • Thank god they had just torn down the annex to Cool Beans the day before or it would be gone too! We sell Late Night Tacos there after midnight and what a shame it would be to deprive Denton of the tacos they love! Long live Fry Street!

  • wow.... its really gone... hope kool beans is okay... :(

  • yeah, they had JUST torn down the annex so maybe someone waited to do it after that so CB's would be fine?

  • The "Frying Tomato?" that's so messed up.

  • Someone put the Fry in Fry Street. Sadly, they risked the lives of others, as well as themselves. If you don't want CVS, Starbucks and Chilis moving in (and I don't) organize petitions and send it to their corporate offices to let them know.

  • Dude, we tried all of that and more....

  • dang, we just can't have anything nice. I hope they find the idiot's who did this and execute them.

  • I think they should do that to Buster (the Houston developer who is behind the demolition of Fry Street's culture).

  • I agree with on that as well.

  • This is an example of the sinful nature of people not guided by God's love. Firemen could have been hurt, other businesses destroyed. I have played on Fry Street numerous times with the Earl Harvin Trio. This is so sad. Goodbye.

  • This is an example of the retarded nature of people guided by liquor, leave god out of it.

  • i grew up in denton and know it inside and out, and actually, you're wrong about God.... see.......... it's the only place in denton where you can escape from the super conservatism and fundamentalist baptist crap........

  • seriously, fry street was the only haven for any type of creativity, music, freedom, fun in denton which is overall an extremely oppressive kind of place.......... so fry street is a rebellious little section near the university where the culture was very similar to 6th street in austin.....

  • ya know, back in '94...there was to be a church group that met every Wed.(if i remember right)at The Tomato

They used to order a pitcher of Shiner and talk about god.I always remember thinkin....when I turn religious

thats the way I wana go.

  • Uh, actually, this is an example of people guided by anger for what was previously their culture before it was taken away by greedy, uninspired, money-hungry developers.

  • That doesn't make it right. I loved the Flying Tomato, probably ate there a hundred times when I was at UNT. It kills me to think of that corner going corporate. But no matter how much poetic justice the fire might be, it was still incredibly stupid and dangerous.

  • True, and I'm glad no one got hurt...but it's still poetic justice nonetheless.

  • I blame those stupid TAMSTERs. I bet they did it.

  • Considering the TAMSters are not even in school right now, and are banned from Fry Street past 9PM, and idolize The Tomato, you are very very much wrong.
