  • I've seen it spelt: Boulavogue not Bool

  • This is the real Ireland that has made Ireland remember, its greatest people.

  • Comment removed

  • I'll never understand why the british hate these songs, there about the british soldiers winning and killing the irish for 600 years like come on you fucking british

  • @SeiferOptics Try nine hundred years and the point is the Irish never gave up and are Irish and Catholic wherever they are found. Up the Republic.

  • tiocfaidh ar la

  • I am proud to say that both my parents were born and raised in Boolavouge and i spent most of my childhood there.. Up wexford and god bless Ireland!!!

  • the irish wave has swept across the world....Im so proud to be a son of Eire

  • go héag ghlacadh dom, beidh mé grá Éirinn.

  • everyone gives out about protestants and that they killed father murphy but it was also a catholic man who gave father murphy up to the english and it was a catholic man who protected father murphy for many months by providing him with food and shelter as he hid from the english. im a catholic but i hav nothing against anyones religion i just have something against the people who have wronged my family and country :)

  • @irishpodge121 The British were in a foreign country and forced their religion on the Irish. It only made it worse. Still Irish in California. Lots of us here.

  • Anyone hae this song sung by Art Sinnott??

  • 1798 , the summer of blood , the irish people turned their ploughs to pikes and became rebels , by being unsuccessfull they were made to suffer , the english piled on as much suffering as was possible until 1916 , your grasp on our land was as hard as glass , then it shattered itself , TAL, UP THE REBELS,

  • @franreilley There were many risings in the interim between 1798 and 1916. The Fenians. The young Irelanders, Charles Stewart Parnell.Home Rule was granted in 1914 but put in abeyance because of ww1. The British wanted to conscripted the Irish. As one rebel said, " That put the tin hat on it." And the Rising was on.

  • It's unfortunate that the painting at the beginning of this video (and on several occasions during it) depicts the Peterloo Massacre, in Manchester in 1819, when a peaceful demo by the English working class was broken up by the local militia on the direction of magistrates. Brian Roebuck now lives in Manchester, and I'll be out with him on Paddy's Day. The ruling strata will enjoy reading the exchange of insults here. You're doing their job for them.

  • Gim me doun tha thar Sythe me buoyoes .. an ial flail all afore me ... a fear nuthin but the dark!... areckin

  • anyone could please teach gael? I´d be very grateful. I´d very much like to learn my ancestor´s tonge.

    Tiocfaidh Ar La

  • this makes me want to go on the beer in the harrow :(

  • IRELAND ...THE LAND OF THE BRAVE

  • Sorry pal but no one sings this like Eamon Largey. Search it .......pure class

  • we only think we are rebels these men were true rebels.

  • all yee can think about is drink!! this song gives me goosebumps#

  • Does anyone know where I can get just an instrumental version of boolavogue? Need it 4 a singing competition

  • It's a pity that all the Irish youth drink so they can't put their intellect together and actually do something to achieve independence.

  • Look at the English, they are worse drinkers. What a stupid thing to say.

  • @Scoob505 russians. vodka. nuff said.

  • they can handle their drink , our people are like red indians .

  • @kbcmighty eh, yeah, it is. but, you must admit that while we drink more, russians are more iconic for their vodka. we're iconic for... i don't know.

  • your quite right , our country is flooded with drink and drugs . Its ruined .

  • go fuck yourself

  • Need i say anymore...

  • Good old father murphy a relation of mine through his mother johanna whitty

  • Ireland for the Irish! Banish the foreigners!

  • Brian, the late great Mr. Hickey would be proud of ya

    T C

  • Myself and a good friend of mine use to spend many a night listening to Brian Roebuck, great singer....great songs.....and this is a great example

  • Me? Sorry, didn't mean to be irritating.

  • she's stopped Boys .She's stopped!

  • I keep trying to post! Not sure what rule I'm breaking. But to find out about one of the men who fought with Father Murphy and the boys of Wexford and Wicklow, try

    rebel hand

    or

    Nicholas Delaney

    in a search engine.

I like this version. A bit derivative of the Dubs' definitive one in the arrangement, but glad to hear Tubberneering, Enniscorthy, Camolin and Ballyellis back in the song.

    Thank you for this.

  • I loved this. A bit too 'son of Dubliners', perhaps, in the arrangement, but their version is hard to beat. And the verses about Camolin, Enniscorthy, Tubberneering and Ballyellis restored.

If you'd like to find out about one of the men of 98 who fought with Father Murphy, google 'rebel hand' or 'Nicholas Delaney'

  • fuair siad bas ar son na h'EIRINN

  • i can look into it, my family has alot of those things, but ill have to go thru em first

  • Hey catalpa noticed the song after i'd seen the name in my Ireland's Best Tin Whistle tunes book. Now i've heard it sounds interesting an by the way the first picture with the flags and the cavalry in the crowd is from the peterloo riot in the 1800's i know i've covered it in History.

  • You are right about the photo, by the way If you play the whistle you may be intrested in my site for whistle players, just google Martin Dardis Tin Whistle Notes, I have 150 tin whistle song tunes.

  • anois aris i also remember that!

  • I remember in primary school we always had to sing this.

For Ireland's freedom we fight or die!

  • Great song! Gives me chills each time I listen.

  • how can the British come here and live off us when in 1798 they tried to take what little we had-no British should be allowed in we kept them out once-may Fr. Murphy rest in peace

  • i live in the town that fr murphy was captured and executed by the english

  • loch garman abu

  • we need more people like these men today

  • great statement and yet so true

me n my m8 r as mad on republicanism n we live in the uk,but wen we go ireland its a different story everyone wnts peace n i fink they need 2 not settle 4 wat they av as they av b4.

  • This is so beautiful and historical. The tune is gorgeous. I'm not even Irish, but American, yet I love this tune and your cause.

    Lilli Buck

    Bristol, VA , USA

  • Proud to be Irish up ya boy ye

  • god bless the fallen heroes of wexford....UP THE YELLA BELLIES AND GOD BLESS OUR PURPLE AND GOLD COUNTY!

  • loch garman abu, follow me who dares!

  • Out with the British it's really upsetting coz they burned down Father John Murph's house and he was gonna forgive them but then they burnt the church so he was OMG, lets start a rebellion! and then on Vinegar Hill they defeated him and burned him/hanged him. (nobody knows) if you want to know more about it, come to my school play on 26/2/09 at Scoil Mhuire Abbeyside in Dungarvan, Waterford.

  • god bless ireland.and out with da foreners, and da brits... ERIN GO BRAGH

  • You Irish have been starved, beaten, deported, But at waterloo it was the "micks" in the line that turned the tide! And in the biggest most powerful county in the world, a son of Ireland became its leader ! you are only a little island, but your influance on the world is out of all proportion to your size . God bless "little Ireland" home of so many big hearts !!!

  • And Che Gevara was of Irish blood (Lynch)...and J.F.K and Captain William Brown (Argentina)...unbroken never defeateted...unlike the banks...ah yas we broke them too 'Nortern Bank £25million...allegedly...freedom fighters of the world unite.

  • If the 15,000 french soldiers had landed successfully in ireland in 1796 and if the rebellion had taken place in that year Ireland would of been free from british rule. And the reason why they had to turn back was because of Irelands shit weather.

  • Absolutely, get the Brits out, allow all Irish people to be who they want to be and get rid of those blood sucking companies like Shell. We'll be completely free when we create an equal society like James Connolly wanted, not like Fianna Fail want for us!

  • fianna fail is a fail, SF is the only party i even half trust left, fuck the brits i want the bastards out and now, every time i listen to one of these songs or hear a story i want to return the favor, 20 or so of me family were killed in 1798 wit John Murphey, and John Kelly of Killane, others in 1580 wit Feach McHugh O'Byrne, and still more inn 1919-1923, all because of he bastards, and those 20 or so were only killed fighting, many more were beaten or tortured to death, many more were starved

  • McDaid1916 My grandmother was a McDaid woman from Derry as well.

  • why the fuck cant you guys all live in peace. i have been to north and south many times and they are both beautiful. you guys make yourselves the children of europe by all your bickering-get a grip

  • Come on Enniscorthy! Come on Wexford and Ireland!

  • This is a song about the 1798 rebellion and the bravery of Father Murphy and the thousands of ordinary Irish people who stood up to the imperial British and gave their lives freely for Irish freedom. So what in the name of fiddlers f''' are you yahoos bickering about with your Limerick, Derry and Dublin slagging, arn't we all Irish ? get a grip here lads.

  • Actually, we aren't all Irish. There's alot of English people living in the North, so we can't be a united country.

  • What a song.First class.God bless Eire

  • I wish the boys of wexford would help out now as there is still 6 counties of Ireland occupied by the btitish crown forces. The 6 counties and still in tyranny!

  • Yeah but let's admit it, they're the least nice ones in Ireland! And you can add Limerick to that.

  • Derrys hill are among the nicest in Ireland along with Derry girls and the amazing derry gaa team:D

  • Yeah, I have to agree about Derry girls. Pity me... I have to live in Dublin!

  • hahaha well, thats ur tough luck lol....

  • Ah, give it a bit more time and we'll be ruling yous again soon... We'll do to yous what we;ve done to the rest of Ireland... steal all your taxes and build the best hospitals in our city!!!

  • hahahahahaha aww there aint much to steal from derry haha i dunno if youve been here recently lol

  • 'you can add limerick to that'?? go way and fuck yourself... we dont associate ourselves with you scumbag heroin heads in dublin!! bunch of gowls

  • Well said mate, sounds like you were mugged or beaten in Dublin once!

  • if i was in Dublin i'd burn it to the ground.. the whole country hates ye pricks!!

  • If you burn our city to the ground, you'll never have a top notch hospital or properly staffed and funded clinic to attend after you fall into your slurry pits. Remember, a clean farm is a safe farm!

  • actually irish hospitals are horrible for such a "modern and techonologically advanced country" go to america, itll change ur opinions forever

  • I'm in America write now writing this. And I've had eye operations in this country, Plush furniture, brand name equipment and drugs and the finest tests that can barely be justified... all what I received over here. For a bill literally 10 times what it usually is for me at home. No complaints of the quality of US hospitals, but my problem is of access. Irish hospitals aren't as pretty, but the care for serious issues is not lacking anything.

  • Irish hospitals need to be funded properly but trust me, i know too many Americans who are going with care or medicines b/c they can't afford it. First time in my life i saw a coworker stitch his hand up after brushing up against a revolving saw blade. Primitive stuff in this supposedly rich country, Americans are great people but they put up with some shite off the govt and companies.

  • i know mate, me da of course is a contracter, and when we lived in america he cut his hand open on a saw because a mexican knocked into him whilst he was operating it, and he cut his hand nearly in two, but he could afford the repair thank god, however in ireland both me nana and granda died of heart disease and stroke that could have been prevented in black water clinic dublin, and they had the insuranceby the way tell the limerick fucker to fuck off, nobody gives 2 shites about limerick ahhaah

  • I see you've read Tom Barry! There's a great man, him and his lads in Cork. I think things would have been different if Connolly lived beyond '16. He picked up for the workers and poor, not just the wealthy like Fianna Fail did eventually. I've horror stories myself about my grandmother dying in Dublin hospitals and it's makes me sick. Nothing really changes does it? And it'll get worse now the rich will start hoarding their money in the coming years.

  • ah yeah of course it wouldve, but hey if things keep goin this way weel go back to the 80s way of things, when people were unemployed so they had time to do things, and hopefully the IRA will come back along with our culture, plus all the immigrants soiling our lands will be cast from ireland due to a lack of jobs, theres always a plus side (and by soiling our lands, i mean our culture)

  • I think you're really from Australia.

  • Aha. Another dumb Jackeeeeen. God loves an idiot or is that a loser? Dublin exists because we want it to.

  • And the man who placed this song here is also a Dublin Jackeen, but more important I'm an Irishman, a bit of harmless banter never hurt anybody, keep her lit lads.

  • y is he a jakeen explain this

    hes nt a jackass

n if u mean plastic paddy ur a hypocrit

  • dont worry weer working on it mate! ahahah cheers

  • fantastic song

not a drop of irish blood in me, but every time i hear this song it comes pretty close to forcing tears out of me. The clancy brothers version gives me goose bumps.

    erin go bragh

  • 'Irish blood' is a thing invented to get money out of ignorant foreigners. If you oppose all imperialism, colonialism and injustice, you're automatically an honorary Irish person!

  • Few songs in the world bring forth the sprite of freedom like this one,not the glorious triump of victory but the mornful sound of a soul beaten but not broken.Even though the crop is lost I sow the seed in hope of a new harvest. Its so hard to put into words all this song invokes in me......So sorry about the spelling errors,a stroke a few years ago left me unable to connect sound to letter very well.

  • ...that was beatiful mate... im sorry to hear of ur ailment, my grandfather recently passed of a stroke thank god u survived yours, ur comment brings tears to my eyes for i feel the same way having a family that fought alongside father james muphy

  • To JoeWeeksey

I love that sentence you wrote: Even though the crop is lost, I sow the seed in hope of a new harvest. We Irish should always remember that we come from a people who were beaten many times but never gave up. In fact, we are unbreakable. This knowledge can help us in our private lives too. No matter what knocks us down temporarily, we can get up again and overcome it. I wish you continued recovery after your stroke and I hope you regain your health as well as it was before.

  • There are many peoples out there who like the Irish, fought injustice, suffered unimaginable pain. As the great man once said, "it's not those who can inflict the most pain, but those who can endure the most who will eventually succeed". It's a cliche but I hope people who remember Ireland remember Iraq, Chechnya, etc etc.

  • @JoeWeeksey Don't worry. The spirit of your sentiments get through so the spelling is secondary. I see the stroke is not stopping you, you're sowing your own seed in hope of the harvest. Good luck with that !

  • a excellent song and a excellent singer. i am from iceland and its freezin ere

  • 60 years ago, my mother had this song on an old style LP by Theresa Duffy. What the subjugated went through for freedom. I was particularly moved by the picture of the "Croppy Boy" on his knees hands bound behind his back, whilst the bully boy military administered the boiling pitch cap, in an effort to teach the intransigent Irish to "love" mother england. May the laughter of our children be our revenge..and thank God for my Irish ma' who taught me to forgive BUT not forget....

  • been to boolavouge many a time and will never forget the place, almost as beautiful as my ballymurn and glad to say my ancestors fought there

  • Ive heard better versions!!!!!!!!!

  • Let's hear them then...

  • inspirational stuff there.

  • fantastic

  • brill i love this song god bless

  • The great Luke Kelly !!!

  • When I was young I remember my uncle singing this song and I thought he was singing about me because my maiden name is Murphy.! Great memories.Great Song.Great Country.Erin Go Bragh

  • This is the best version of this song I have ever heard.

  • Just thinking of Father Murphy brings a tear to the eye

  • Powerful singing,from the heart,great stuff,

    UP WEXFORD!

  • Wexford Abu!!!

  • up wexford

  • BRILL

  • Great, really great. All the lyrics! Best version I've heard yet. This boy can sing!

  • you haven't heard the Enniscorthy Four remix then !!

  • Lump in the throat!! Brilliant.

  • Not in the stadium, but it gets a good belt in the pubs before or after match. Not really one where you'd get the masses joining in.

  • Makes the hair stand up on my neck. We give this one a good belting when we're at GAA days out or Ireland away games. Great stuff.

  • Which bit of the song do you sing when you sing it at matches?

  • This is definitely the best version of this song I have ever heard; the bagpipes top it off.

  • Not bagpipes, but uilleann pipes

  • I picked this CD up in Shannon Ireland...and I tell you what, Brian Roebuck is one of the most amazing vocalists I've ever heard. Any Soul Sista can whoo...whoo her way through the national anthem....but no one can bring a tear to my eye like this guy.

  • Nowt wrong with the musician pal - that's very good I can promise ya !

  • fantastic

  • catalpa get a better musician
