I haven't stepped foot inside a Wal-Mart in ten years. I live in a small town where many of the other businesses have been driven out so avoiding Wal-Mart sometimes means doing without certain things. I'm willing to make that tiny (and it is tiny) sacrifice. I find that anything I can't get at the grocery or home improvement store I can just buy online. Knowing you will have to wait for items bought online also helps control impulse spending, saving you money in the long run.

Food made in China is hardly inspected at all. They frequently use dangerous chemicals to cure tea and other products and most of the stuff that gets to our shelves hasn't been inspected. The good news is that food has to be labeled as to where it comes from. The bad news is that there is no such regulation for food ingredients. So even if it is American made, there is no way to know if the ingredients are from China (or God knows where). This is why Walmart is lobbying to have labels changed

It's basic economics that as the dollar loses value (Walmart actually protects against inflation) that a country will manufacture less here and import more from places like China. Also studies show that incomes are higher and economies do better in places with Walmarts than ones that don't. I had better pay at Wal Mart, and benefits, raises, bonuses, and discounts (which I did not get at any other store I worked at). The pay: I started out @ $7.25hr. I was old not to tell other cashiers because I would incite jealousy. They were suppose to give me 2 raises 1 in my 1st 6mos and one in my 1st yr. I didn't get 6mo raise. I was told it wasn't policy anymore. I got a .40cent raise. My 2nd raise came through the raising of minimum wages. I ended up .05cents over minimum wage with a whopping total of $8.05hr. Thank the Lord for discounts.
I was finally given a D-day(decision day)to decide whether or not I wanted to come back. I needed the job so I came back. The next step was termination. It wasn't long before I was harassed and accused falsely by several employees and finally someone was being nice to men but only because they knew I was going to be fired. I gave them no info I knew what was up. I was placed on suspension til the boss returned. I immediately resigned.
I looked up on the computer kiosk at the self-check the instructions on how to operate the self-checks. I must have hit the wrong button because I got an error message and a wal-mart headquarters address listed in china. China? What happened to Benntonville? I tried to take my concerns through their "open door" policy. Only to have the door slammed shut on my toes. Each time I went above their head I was written up.
The employees would call me strange. I would say in a cheery voice well God's people are a peculiar people. This one guy, because I don't celebrate christmas told me when I said that "well your not suppose to be a wierdo!" I even got harassed about the type of vehicle I drive(a honda). My boss said all his life he was taught to buy American. He said christmas was an American tradition. But since Sam Walton died the only American traditions going on at wal-mart are good ol redneck traditions.
They put me at the register next to the christmas trees. My boss would stand there and laugh as customers would ask me questions about the trees. They even stuck me near the door where the freezing cold would blast me and when I got sick and complained they moved me one cash register away from the door. When I got well, they put me right back in front of the door.
I used to be a wal-mart employee. They hate religion. They accused me of politically harassing my customers, because I handed out a type written flyer of why Christmas is pagan. All I did was hand it to the same customers who handed me their church tracts. I wasn't even allowed to verbalize it, while the cashiers behind me were encouraged to say "merry christmas." So much for freedom of speech.
I work at Walmart, and I don't understand how an unorganized, dissaray mess of a store that cares nothing abotu it's employee's is still alive. no union.. we are slaves.. they pay us pennies for heavy lifting and loading and walking all day..

I haven't stepped foot inside a Wal-Mart in ten years. I live in a small town where many of the other businesses have been driven out so avoiding Wal-Mart sometimes means doing without certain things. I'm willing to make that tiny (and it is tiny) sacrifice. I find that anything I can't get at the grocery or home improvement store I can just buy online. Knowing you will have to wait for items bought online also helps control impulse spending, saving you money in the long run.

Food made in China is hardly inspected at all. They frequently use dangerous chemicals to cure tea and other products and most of the stuff that gets to our shelves hasn't been inspected. The good news is that food has to be labeled as to where it comes from. The bad news is that there is no such regulation for food ingredients. So even if it is American made, there is no way to know if the ingredients are from China (or God knows where). This is why Walmart is lobbying to have labels changed

It's basic economics that as the dollar loses value (Walmart actually protects against inflation) that a country will manufacture less here and import more from places like China. Also studies show that incomes are higher and economies do better in places with Walmarts than ones that don't. Basically, Wal-mart is no cash cow when it comes to net profits. Its profit margin is about 3.5%, which is very low. Railroads and car industries are easier when it comes to unions because of high profit margins. Anyhow, if you raise wages just $3 dollars per employee of Wal-Mart, then the company would eventually bankrupt if it didn't raise prices. Wal-Mart could not afford to raise wages 2 dollars an hours for all its employees not in management positions. $2x8hrsx5daysx4weeksx12months=$3840 extra money for each employee a year. 2.0 million non-management employees x $3840= $7.7 billion. However, net profit for wal-mart in 2010 was $14 billions. Again, $4.3 billion was paid for stock dividend. This leaves $2 billion left for all other expenses. If they paid medical expenses, then no more low prices for the hundreds of millions shoppers.

Walmart is nothing but a warehouse for cheap Chinese imports. They should change the name to China Mart. which is what I call it when I drive by one. I got a tire recall notice from a car I bought. went to China Mart to get it replaced. there answer was we don't honor those, even though they we bought from here! you need to call the manufacture. I explained it was the manufacture that sent the notice out and to return them to China Mart for free replacement. they tried to charge me for new ones

I went to walmart for a set of tires. Big mistake.
They broke my door handle & I found out the hard way they didn't tighten the lug-nuts on my front wheel! Walmart said nothing they could do & file a claim with my insurance. Not even a "sorry". This store is in a small town. I use to do about 50% of my shopping there. No more! This company has to go!

If not for Wal Mart, I'd probably be walking around naked right now, with nothing to my name. I got more pay, discounts, bonuses, and benefits at Wal Mart than any other place, and the only reason I had to quit at the time was cuz I went back to school as a music major (which is basically 2 jobs and a half). I miss wal mart :(

Also, I know where you are coming from but do want to say I grew up in a family who couldn't afford shelter or food, so we moved into a shared community home made out of log on a little street called Wilder. Keep in mind I grew up in the poorest state in the country. My parents refused to used government aid because they believed it was for the week.

By the time I got out of college I had two wrioth IRA's opened in my name and 20 thousand dollars saved up. I went off to college, worked and went to school at the same time, paid off my college loans, bought and paid off a brand new car and have been saving in mutual funds, and other retirement accounts ever since. People who dont understand the value of a dollar.

If all of the associates from India left the home office in Bentonville AR, Walmart would go under! After over 30 years of work, I have had the 2 worst Managers, both from India! At Lunch time, they take over most of the Lunch tables! Natural born Americans should be doing all of these jobs! H-1B needs to be stopped forever! Nothing but a pile of trash with a price tag! Almost everything I buy there breaks within the first couple of days or couple of months. They barely pay their employees minimum wage and then throw them away like a peice of trash when they don't perform. They have cameras to protect their stuff but when something is stolen out from your car they don't stinking care. The prices aren't lower. Flimsy, lead filled Let's give ourselves a Christmas present and not shop there!

@hopecharmer well, I worked at Wal Mart, and I was payed so good there, that I wish I was working there again instead of Kroger or these Dollar stores. I had better pay at Wal Mart, and benefits, raises, bonuses, and discounts (which I did not get at any other store I worked at). I bought an ipod and laptop that were just as good as if I'd gotten them from best buy. I've never been fired. The prices are just the same as Kroger and other stores. And yes, the gas does suck, I'll admit.

using the methods i have for my profession, i have returned over 15,600 dollars in stolen merchandise without receipts to walmarts. in exchange i get a gift card, then i buy a prepaid walmart visa, which can be used anywhere, then i send it to myself thru paypal in a legitimate "transaction" in ebay. i know its wrong, but i feel any numbers contributing to loss i can provide for walmart are worth it, being how they've hurt so many! its wrong but my hearts in the right place :) $15,600 & counting

Walmart employees have tried to unionize before, and either wind up getting fired or become so intimidated by managers and such that they don't vote to become union. Walmart has a strict anti union policy, and the store managers have some program on their pc's that teach them how to tell if employees are starting to form a union and what not.

This video seems to have no understanding of economics. Walmart buys from China because it's cheaper to make goods there. You can't ask them to buy American and pay more than they have to for their inventory. Instead, what everyone should be pissed off and ranting about is that the American government is directly responsible for making American goods and industry uncompetitive on the world market. If the government would stop retarding everything in the economy, our goods would be cheaper.

The pay: I started out @ $7.25hr. I was old not to tell other cashiers because I would incite jealousy. They were suppose to give me 2 raises 1 in my 1st 6mos and one in my 1st yr. I didn't get 6mo raise. I was told it wasn't policy anymore. I got a .40cent raise. My 2nd raise came through the raising of minimum wages. I ended up .05cents over minimum wage with a whopping total of $8.05hr. Thank the Lord for discounts.

I was finally given a D-day(decision day)to decide whether or not I wanted to come back. I needed the job so I came back. The next step was termination. It wasn't long before I was harassed and accused falsely by several employees and finally someone was being nice to men but only because they knew I was going to be fired. I gave them no info I knew what was up. I was placed on suspension til the boss returned. I immediately resigned.

I looked up on the computer kiosk at the self-check the instructions on how to operate the self-checks. I must have hit the wrong button because I got an error message and a wal-mart headquarters address listed in china. China? What happened to Benntonville? I tried to take my concerns through their "open door" policy. Only to have the door slammed shut on my toes. Each time I went above their head I was written up.

The employees would call me strange. I would say in a cheery voice well God's people are a peculiar people. This one guy, because I don't celebrate christmas told me when I said that "well your not suppose to be a wierdo!" I even got harassed about the type of vehicle I drive(a honda). My boss said all his life he was taught to buy American. He said christmas was an American tradition. But since Sam Walton died the only American traditions going on at wal-mart are good ol redneck traditions.

They put me at the register next to the christmas trees. My boss would stand there and laugh as customers would ask me questions about the trees. They even stuck me near the door where the freezing cold would blast me and when I got sick and complained they moved me one cash register away from the door. When I got well, they put me right back in front of the door.

I used to be a wal-mart employee. They hate religion. They accused me of politically harassing my customers, because I handed out a type written flyer of why Christmas is pagan. All I did was hand it to the same customers who handed me their church tracts. I wasn't even allowed to verbalize it, while the cashiers behind me were encouraged to say "merry christmas." So much for freedom of speech.
