I could edit your ignorant comments, but I'll leave them for the world to see. At the time of this recording, Tingting was using English on a daily basis for about one year. Today she is one of the most proficient English speakers and writers you'll meet. I commend her for attempting this exercise in communicating science. She's a clever and creative scientist. Maybe rather than taking an easy shot at her learning, why not thank her for trying? Thanks Tingting. I apologize for this guy.

Ignorance implies a lack of knowledge in the subject matter of interest. As I've asserted I also speak other languages and have gone through the learning processes already. So calling me ignorant just because you don't agree with what I said is nothing more than an ad hominem. Like I said, I'm sure she's a smart girl, but getting compliant with your abilities in another language doesn't help you at all. It only hinders you socially, and professionally.
If she has in fact improved, then good for her. But I must say, it doesn't help people when you baby them. Nothing is more insulting than being treated like a child just because you are slow in a new language. It inhibits learning, and it's undignified. If you sit there and say to your friend "oh no, it's ok, I know what you're trying to say" it doesn't help them at all, it cripples them linguistically. It's not ok to say "Appo" when it's "Apple", just like it's not ok to say...
"Ja-lap-ino" when it's pronounced "Hali-pien-yo". No one has any qualms with correcting native English speakers (which they shouldn't), but as soon as someone comes along with another native language people baby them. It's disrespectful, and it doesn't help them at all. If they're you're friend, then don't baby them, it's not rude, it's rude to treat them like they're 3 years old when they're an adult. The only thing you do when you do that is tell them "it's ok to be compliant".
Holy frig Tingting, I'm sorry but please take some language classes. I'm not being racist, I realize that learning another language is difficult. But seriously, I have little to no pity or patience for this. If I was expected to sit through hour upon hour in language labs eradicating my accent and learning how to pull vowels differently through my mouth and roll syllables in seemingly impossible places in throat then you can learn how to speak standard English properly.
There is little to nothing complicated about English, it's a bare bones language who's only difficulties lay within some of it's nonsensical conjugations. The Standard American accent is as simple as opening your mouth and saying your vowels completely. I know people from other countries who can speak up to 12 languages and who tell me that English is the easiest to learn, and I'll be damned if I'm harassed by the French over tonged R's if I have to listen to this and bite mine in turn.
I'm not trying to hurt your feelings, and I hope you don't find what I said harsh but I know from experience that when you're in a place where you're speaking a second language and you're tripping over your words it can really hinder you both professionally and socially. People didn't want to speak with you as much as others due to confusion and the difficulty communicating. Trust me, lessons are cheap and you won't regret them.I'm sure you're smart and this is something that could hold you back
@AyanaLinval Oh really ?! What other foreign languages did you master? I advice you to try the Polish language for starters, it is my native language and when it comes to pronunciation it is much easier than the English, no Th's or tonged R's that are so problenatic to Foreigners. In fact nothing more than the sounds that you already produce in your every day speach... Just try something for yourself first and do it before you start criticising others for doing their best.
French, and Spanish. Neither of which are easy languages to master. I have learned other languages and so yes, I have gone through learning how to speak other languages, so I will say what I said. And no, she's not doing her best. I'm sure she's a very smart girl, but people get compliant and they stop trying to improve and it hinders them in life. If you speak multiple languages then you should understand that the difficulties faced, but also how one can over come them.
@AyanaLinval In that case I encourage you to make a video in a foreign language to cathegoricaly prove your point. I recommend Hungarian :) I am most willing to witness you deal with digfficulties.
"You will say what you said" fair enough but I say- prove it.
