@davinmills This was the stock exhaust, only the catalytic converter was replaced with straight pipe, and it had a Cherry Bomb Turbo muffler with a Ractive tip
First car I purchased for myself was an '89 SR5, manual. Best car I have ever owned, hands down!! Loved, loved driving that little thing all over God's creation. As silly as this sounds, I have never felt the emotional connection to any car since then, than the connection I felt with that little corrolla. Almost wet myself when I saw that your headlights still popped up. Best feature of that car were those headlights. Thanks for posting and bringing back a memory.
@mwjoos65 I know exactly how you feel, I was probably more attached to that old car then I am to the '89 Prelude I have now. Actually I found this car a few months ago sitting behind the local Canadian Tire, it sat there for months and I kept pulling up to it and looking. It did finally leave though about 2 days ago, don't know what was wrong with it but it hurt me to see the dent in the back. Hopefully I'll see it around again, wouldn't mind buying it back :)
@sartytuner I Have a 1988 Toyota Corolla SR5 myself, i love it, I just wish it was as in good of condition as yours was but the idiot who had before I did Hit something and dented the hood and put a gash in the front bumper, and on top of that a few months ago i was driving home from work one night and a deer ran out in front of me. Needless to say I was upset. My corolla only suffered minor dents in the passenger side fender, But still I plan on keeping it for a few more years.
@Chispiolo Well these I tinted with a spray-on tint, I suppose you could try to use some kind of paint stripper, but you may risk damage to the plastic lenses underneath
@sartytuner ohhhh, mine are window tinted, I bought it like that but I don't know how to take them of without damaging the tail light with a razor or something like that
@davinmills This is a mostly stock exhaust system, only I deleted the cat converter and ungraded to a Cherry Bomb Turbo muffler with a nice Ractive chrome tip
Nice ride man! I had an 88 sr5 in black with eibach springs, low pro tires, enkei's and a single JBL sub!. Fun set of wheels, had a stainless cat back with no resonator. Thought I was going deaf after driving it for a week:)
why would u rev it like that if its below freezing, and its been sitting for 4 months, should give it about 30 mins to warm up, and get to operating temp.
@chipak08 Depends on how creative you're feeling. You can buy headers/exhaust/suspension aftermarket, or upgrade to a 4AGE or supercharged 4AGZE engine. I had often though about going turbo, but didn't keep it long enough
@edersiomoran I wish it was, but that was the version that came out before this. The AE86 were rear wheel, but when they came out with the AE92 they went front wheel
@sartytuner yup, i was hopeing my 90 gt-s was a real wheel like my AE86 that i had, the 86 was bagged tho, i got it for free and thought myself how to drive standard when i was 13 lol awsome car to learn on they will take anything, plus they r very reliable
@sojkz It should all fit except for the very first section, I doubt the manifold would be the same and you may have to make slight modification to the downpipe, the rest should fit though
@sojkz Awesome, you'll be very happy with it! best bet is to check out the local scrap yards for a GTS, although they are a lil hard to find. Also check out local online classified ads, thats how I found mine. Probably be able to find them on ebay too. Good luck!
its dam nice to see these around in good condition, i bought one for 150 bucks lol, only 149k now got 166 no mods, going to 4agze swap next but CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN ride bro like it very much, i know im the only one in pretty much the dam state i cant find these anywhere!!!!! PROPS
Nice car man. Just got one myself for 600 bucks that I'm working on. Just needs a tune up and a little work. Where did you find the shift boot? Do you have to order those online?
@Ticktickdie The shift boot was an aftermarket shift boot, supposed to look like carbon fiber, but it was on the car when I bought it so I'm not sure where it came from. Can prob get them off ebay
Good stuff, good luck with the purchase! I miss mine, I've been looking for another but they are pretty rare in my area, the one I had was the only decent one around
i had one, cant afford to keep it now but when i grad from college/university i'm buying another AE92 and doing everything while keeping it 100% stock.
I wish I still had it, I sold it back in the spring of '08 to a young guy in the area. He's takin awesome care of it though, and stores it during the winter, so I'm happy it's bein taken care of. Still want it back though! lol
nice tailights...i have the same car and is looking to tint mine aswell i picked up some lights from the auto wreckers but had some trouble removing them and ended up breaking the bolts how do you safely remove the lightlights?
To be honest I couldn't even tell you anymore, I sold the car a yr and a half ago, and tinted the lights long before then. Seems I had problems too when I removed them, I think I broke a clip or two
This is the SR5 Dustin Johnson now owns, right? Nice car, really like the exhaust sound. My parents have owned early 90 Corollas since I was 13, they're tough as hell. Even though our Corolla's were DX Wagons, they're still lively and those 4A-FE engines love the high revs. I think I'd sell my Daytona for one in a heartbeat.
yeah, I sold it to Dustin last spring, and he's really been taking care of that car, always clean, I took a bunch of pics of it at the South Shore in Motion show. Honestly, if I found out he was selling it I'd buy it back in a heartbeat, that was a nice lil car
They are a rare site, I wish I had held onto it longer, it was the only one in good condition in my area, and the only one with any custom work done too. Definately had people asking questions, many didn't know what kinda car it was
hey man where did you find the parts for it? cause i have the same car, but its slow as shit and my connecting rods just broke. if you have any sites ill be happy if you could help me
If your's has the 4AFE engine like mine did, then you'll be able to find engine parts easily. They used the same engine in many of the basic Corollas of that time
nice AE92!!!!!! i saw one person with a custom kit that is usually for the drift AE86 and had it on his ae92 boy it make the car look totally sexy...i got an 86 celica GTS no vids yet just a pic of it on my background...take good care of that rolla man
Nice price! This had a lil rust here and there too, needed the rad replaced and new rad mounts welded in, and some brake lines done when I bought it. I paid $950 for it, in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia
very cool, a lot of folks arent hip to these like thy are to hondas. so u can still get them cheap. the 17s look really good on it. what kind of mpgs are u getting? and have u ever seen a lake monster???-bein in Noviascotia n all just thought id ask???
Yeah, they're not as popular as the Hondas, especially around here, which is why I liked this so much, I had the only one in the area which wasn't rusted and half-dead. Not sure on the numbers, but the mpg was better than I used to get in my '91 Accord. No lake monsters yet, but I keep looking lol
I have the same car just a 1988 sR5 5spd manual pretty much same body style its my first car, however my year model came stock with 1 side mirror on the drivers side and mine was wrecked where the hell did u pick up aftermarket mirrors and dash kit and shit for yours
Damn i got one of these!! it's pretty cool only drove it once to school and back home. Untill now it now it needs a new tranny so its been sitting for awhile and i put a Kicker sound system in it with a Kicker ZR240 amp and kicker solo baric L7 12'' sub with a pioneer radio. I cant wait to drive t again when i start college!!! whooo!! LOL
Yeah, I'm in Nova Scotia, they love salting the roads here and it was really starting to hurt the body. That's why I stored it the last winter I had it. Sold it last year, new owner put a lot of work into it and it looks mint!
Hey awsome car mate i love it alot and no that is not smoke is just water. A by product of focial fuels being burnt is water so all cars are steaming all the time they are running just the colder the weather is the more you see it as it dosn't evaporate as quick. When its a really hot day it evaporates before you can ever see the steam. That is just water that you can see. Also started like most Toyota's do even when its really cold their engine is just running the instand you turn the key.
Nothing wrong with these piston rings, this is not oil smoke, it is condensation. Car had been sitting in a cold, damp barn for 4 months, condensation builds up in the exhaust, which evaporates with the heat of the engine. This is just like seeing your breathe on a cold day, and it was very cold this day. Canadian winter
awesome thats something i want to try, because i got the car painted a metalic blue and got all the rust taken away and now i store it and the only problem was the bumpers and the mirriors and i didnt really want to buy GTS bumpers, i gotta check that out though come spring i hope it turns out nicely
thats a nice car man, i have the same car its a 90 but its got the black, bumpers, and i got a GTS trunk with the spoiler and the side skirts im just about to tint the taillights and side lights after i take it out of storage do you think its possible to paint the black bumpers matching colour?
I think that would look great, I've done that to other cars I've owned, had a 91 Accord (beige with black bumpers), and when I painted it dark gray I colormatched the bumpers, turned out sweet, looked really clean. Definately go for it!
Not entirely true, my SR5, and any others I've seen around here have the 4AFE engine, which is a 16V DOHC fuel injected. The GTS models run a 4AGE engine, a lil more powerful
I like it, I think it looks really clean, I did look for one though and they are impossible to find in this area, everyone wants ridiculous money for them
These were a stock item on this year and model, I had another '90 SR5 as a parts car and that also had them. Any others I've seen have had black plastic bumpers, but '90 I think was the 20th Anniversary Corolla, so it had color-matched bumpers, and the driving lights. Sorry if this isn't much help
GTS side skirts I bought off a guy from one of my car clubs, he had them laying around his garage, didn't want them for his SR5. They're off the more powerful Corolla GTS model
I used a can of VHT Nightshades, works great, light still shines through nicely. You can tint it as light or dark as you want, just keep spraying more coats, like spray paint
I used to have a 91 SR5. VERY RELIABLE and suprisingly quick. Thanks for posting the vid! Someone totaled mine :( I miss it but I think Im gooing to buy another one for next winter. 240sx's are not good winter cars!
Check out my cardomain page for what i did to my SR5 (Quite extensive over 450 pictures!)
My screen name on there is: turbo_rammstein
Just do a search for "corolla" then view it by most pictures.. Im on the first page!

@TehRoadRunner43 I believe they're pretty near the same, just different styling in the front bumper and around the back

@sartytuner SR5's were just economy versions of the Corolla GTS. They had drum brakes, weaker suspension, a weak SOHC engine, etc. :P

now is the 1990 SR5 rear wheel drive or no??

Not entirely true, my SR5, and any others I've seen around here have the 4AFE engine, which is a 16V DOHC fuel injected. The GTS models run a 4AGE engine, a lil more powerful

I like it, I think it looks really clean, I did look for one though and they are impossible to find in this area, everyone wants ridiculous money for them
sartytuner 3 years ago
what kind of engine you got or planning for
lyvvracingtou 3 years ago
It had a 4AFE, would've liked to get a 4AGZE but I ended up selling it in June to put the money into my Accord. I do miss it though
