All these people banging on about Meadows selling out annoy me. He's a DIRECTOR. It's his job. In order to fund his own projects, make films in which he has total control and put food on the table he has to do "commissions". All directors have to either make adverts, music/promo videos or rubbish big budget studio films to keep afloat. Be glad Meadows hasn't resorted to the latter

@TroutMaskReplicaa he is. apparently you need money to do films..no money, no this is england; no money, no dead man's shoes; no money, no new films. i am german and we obviously didnt have these commercials on our tv, but they look old to me, like when he really needed the money. every artist has its sceletons in the closet to survive and continue what you love to do. i agree though, that i was shocked at first when i saw that advert. but i like to see it the way i described.

Loach has directed for McD's as has Mike Leigh - I read about the former in the book Loach on Loach, and Leigh is listed in IMDB.

I love how all the ads feature characters from the north of england. Even the questionable Mcdonalds ad featured a family who could easily be the Royles neighbours
