All these people banging on about Meadows selling out annoy me. He's a DIRECTOR. It's his job. In order to fund his own projects, make films in which he has total control and put food on the table he has to do "commissions". All directors have to either make adverts, music/promo videos or rubbish big budget studio films to keep afloat. Be glad Meadows hasn't resorted to the latter

fucking pathetic, meadows needs to grant himself some self-respect and not just accept things for money... I thought he was the preserver of British art... apparently not.
@TroutMaskReplicaa he is. apparently you need money to do films..no money, no this is england; no money, no dead man's shoes; no money, no new films. i am german and we obviously didnt have these commercials on our tv, but they look old to me, like when he really needed the money. every artist has its sceletons in the closet to survive and continue what you love to do. i agree though, that i was shocked at first when i saw that advert. but i like to see it the way i described.
I love how all the ads feature characters from the north of england. Even the questionable Mcdonalds ad featured a family who could easily be the Royles neighbours
@isleofwight2005
If you've ever been to Mcdonalds then you're no better, haha. Come on, is that really selling out? Who cares?

Loach has directed for McD's as has Mike Leigh - I read about the former in the book Loach on Loach, and Leigh is listed in IMDB.

@mediaheroic thought the same. i almost can see a little mocking (towards the brands) in the adverts.

so what if he advertised for mcdonald's, it's a massive company - if anything that shows how good he is
bluenoserob 3 years ago
Yeah it is true. At least Mr Meadows doesn't try and keep it quiet! hehe
BlueCrayon77 3 years ago
Going by your comment, I presume you are unaware that Ken Loach has also done at least one advert for McDonalds! Sorry about that.

It's not good to find out your favourite director did that annoying Qourn ad!
