i think thats a way to make sure you did the bearing right every motor i built and everyone that i know that builds a motor goes in a gets ran car or boat
I fill the last liter of oil from the top, covering everything with oil before closing the rocker cover, and let it run on the starter for a minute with no fuel nozzles, so it runs without compression untill i see oil coming out of the tappet lube holes.
It does, this gets get the pistons and rods in the right orientation and allows for cam initiation. You still have to do the 2000rpm run-in for 20-30 minutes when you install the engine. I find that engines start faster and easier when run on the Simtester, plus I can check for oil leaks.
welp if you have a complete 350 a crank, rods, pistions and bearings will cost 900to 1900 i belive OR just get a 400 crank and rebuild your motor id go that way BUT if you want New go to jegs . com or summitracing . com....Good stuff there but can get spendy
Better off buying the stroker kit from jegs or summit.A stock 400 crank has to be turned down which weakens it plus the cost of machining.Rotating assemblies come as matched sets.less headache.

You cant just make it a 383 to do that you will need the block bored to 383 CI. New Pistons, heads, etc. It would be alot easier on your part to buy a 383 then to make a 350 a 383.
You also have to clearance the block and file some material of a few of the rods to clear the camshaft. If you don't the motor will have some serious damage
that's how you break'em in the right way, but the machine is costly, and not everyone has one. sometimes big engine houses will have them, but they don't do custom public builds.

Stupid music detracts from the sound of the running engine.

i heard 383s tend to over heat alot!! is that true or is it just a bad built one that does?

engine has a small oil leak.

Why do you not close up the motor first and then simtest with it's own oiling system.

HI can a 305 becom a 383 stroker my 305 is a TBI
kearneytyrone 1 year ago
@kearneytyrone - No, the bore on the 305 is too small, but you can put the 400 crank and make it a stroker.
fiatnutz 1 year ago
@fiatnutz cool so do the 305 have to be homed for that
kearneytyrone 1 year ago
@kearneytyrone - If you the block needs to be machined oversize, yes and yes for a rering job as well.

@kearneytyrone I think the block would have to be notched for the 400 crank cause it will hit the walls

i was not even aware they even made a machine like this
it is a great idea
evolution in the engine rebuilding industry.
what rebuilder has them i wonder?

Cool to see things in action. You realize that at 6000RPM that crank makes 100 revolutions in 1 sec?

eeehrm.
Just so you know, never ever run a new engine on idle. It needs compression to break-in properly !!

@kyligz yes when HOT...this one run's cold. just the best way to be sure the engine's ok

You should let me compose you some new music :) It's what I do for a living... message me in regards to it...The music is not bad...but a bit dated.
scott93257 1 year ago
In years past, we had nothing as fancy as a Simtester. We simply pulled
the vehicle around for a few miles and let the engine turn over with the
ignition off. It worked pretty well.

What about the piston rings?
Don't you have to get the cylinder pressure up to seat the rings, or is this more to break in the valve-train?

i love in Piggott AR and i know someone here that builds them that can get the COMPLETE 383 rolling Asmbly for $650

brake parts cleaner will cure that problem

or you could just install very weak valve springs to break in the cam
k9forkids 2 years ago
thats interesting, plus its better to test it and work on the engine before you actually install it

You don't need new heads to make it a 383. You need a 3.75" stroke crank.

get a speedway motors race or street rod catalog and look at the chevy engine section, you can find stuff from scat and callies
