Roller Derby and roller girls are two completely different things. Roller girls have no connection whatsoever to the historical Roller Derby. Roller Derby was once considered the professional level of speed skating. Roller girls were created by a male promoter in Austin Texas and are closely associated to Burlesque and the sex trade. Learn the truth about REAL Canadian Roller Derby!
If you haven't kept current... many of the members of team that won flat track derby nationals this year are former (current?) competitive speed skaters. The two concepts are not mutually exclusive. "derby girls" can be, and often are, serious athletes. This is "real derby" - run by women and for women. We run it on our own terms - this is real Canadian roller derby.
I have to say getting punched where you just got your flu shot really sucks, about twenty minutes after I got mine my sister punched me really hard right where i got mine....not fun. Awesome skating by the way :)
In 2008, men's leagues are a strengthening trend; the sport is no longer for women only.
Currently, the derby-milieu includes co-ed, all-women's and all-men's teams representing cities worldwide. There are tens of thousands of skaters and hundreds of thousands of loyal followers of roller derby. One over-powering emotion binding all these colleagues into one kindred family is a profound passion for the sport.
All he does is make fun of politicians. I know our politicians aren't the best in the world, but he just makes jokes about politicians for half his sketches. Every week it's Michael Ignatieff this and Stephen Harper that, and Jack Layton this and Tony Clement that and John Baird this. Then he rants about politicians for 2 minutes, does his photo challenge about politcians. He's become as bad as the politicians he insults. He used to be funnier.
Yeah, I forgot that Roller Derby is completely political these days, oh and catching those lobsters... how ignorant of me. Yes, a portion of his show is dedicated to politics because that is a key subject of Canada and nowadays people need a laugh when it comes to the issue. I can't see how you can sum up his show with the claim that his show is only about making fun of politicians. Did you know we had Roller Derby in Canada? I sure as hell didn't, I guess he's teaching me something then eh.

If you didn't know we had Roller Derby in Canada, that's like Michael Ignatieff not knowing the diffirence between Blue Rodeo and the Calgary Stampede.
Btw that was one of Rick Mercer's jokes in one of his episodes. See how bad his jokes have gotten. Google
By the way, Canada has 27 roller derby leagues. Ten in Ontario, seven in Alberta, six in B.C., two in Saskatchewan and one apiece in Quebec and Manitoba.
Canada has more derby leagues than any other country outside of the U.S. (which has over 300).
Wow, Le Taz! It really dates that clip, this place has been closed for...what, 6 years now?

RMR is kind of boring. I mean many of the places he's starting to go to are pretty lame. In previous seasons it was better.

You're kidding right... RMR is definitely the best Canadian show on air right now! Rock it Rick!
